Gamespot: Dead Space Review

The survival horror genre is rife with games in which you are isolated in a hostile environment full of monsters, and Dead Space is no exception. But from the moment you're thrown into the middle of the fray in the heart-pounding introduction until the bone-chilling conclusion, it's clear that this is something quite unique. With its disturbingly twisted visuals, its deeply engrossing story, and innovative strategic dismemberment combat system, Dead Space is a best-in-its-class game that surpasses other entries in its venerable genre in nearly every way and will be the standard by which they are judged for years to come.

I usually buy or play games with good reviews and it seems like there are going to be so many great games with good reviews that i might not afford to play. Who agrees..

Musicmedic51506443d ago

the wife and son's gonna be peed off at me this Christmas. No presents for them cause all the money is going to the games.

Nineball21126443d ago

I'm planning on playing all of the games that interest me, but obviously I won't be able to play them all at once.

Things are going to have to be prioritized.

This is a GOOD problem to have! :p

M337ING6443d ago

For sure...

I need to get Far Cry 2, Fallout 3, Left 4 Dead, Call of Duty: World at War, and GTAIV... And I only game on a PC! :)

Chubear6443d ago

Just when you think you've gotten the list you want down - BAM! another game blind-sides you that you feel you just got to experience.

The new James Bond game, Quantum Solace, is one of those too. Just saw a vid of it on GT and good lord it looks fantastic. I'm thinking it's definitely the Goldeneye of the new generation for sure.

Just soooo many top quality games. It's great to be a gamer this gen but damn, my pockets are crying for mercy. Well, I guess with the economy in a rutt, we'll all have to look for more economical ways for our entertainment and as I see it Spending $300 on gaming entertainment for 4-6 months sure beats the hell out of $200 per weekend with bar hopping or $500 bucks a month for about 7-8 NBA sports entertainment.

blooodFrenzy926443d ago

Itrguy0016443d ago

ape0076443d ago

dead space also looks fantastic

tocrazed4you6443d ago

Very very concerned why they reviewed the xbox 360 version first when the ps3 is the lead platform. Anyway its a good score so that contradicts my statement, sooo KUDOS!!! This is worth a rent for me :D

ape0076443d ago

please,am confused

what version should I buy

ps3 or 360

which one look better

does ps3 version have trophies day 1?

solidjun56443d ago

Deadspace does support trophies. However, since you're a multi-platform owner, I would say the only thing that can only sway you is your preference with the controller. What controller do you feel most comfortable with. They both support trophies/achievements and they both do not have multiplayer. EA (although I never thought I say this) have achieve parity with multi-console games. I was surprised with madden and i'm...liking this. So, I guess it's controller to sway your decision.

Bnet3436443d ago

I don't know which version to get either but maybe I'll get PS3 because I just have waaaaayyyy to many Xbox 360 games.

dragunrising6443d ago

Multi-console owner and undecided on which version to get. I was leaning towards the PS3 as my library isn't as big.

Remember the Toys R' Us deal? Buy 2 one free. Cheapassgamer.com figured out a way you can swap out the two non-free games to get two games you want that aren't out yet. Here's the link:

TheIneffableBob6443d ago

According to IGN, both versions are practically identical apart from the PS3 version having slightly better loading times. (PS3 version doesn't require an HDD install).

SuperM6443d ago

Wow, PS3 version have better loading time without any install?

Well thats good news, hopefully this is because developers are getting a hang of the ps3 so we will see more of this in the future.

Mozilla896442d ago

Cause I was surprised that it didn't have an install. Maybe EA is trying to be nice to PS3 owners after all.

EA Cut Dead Space's Marketing Budget to Pour Into Mirror's Edge Due to Mock Review Scores

Former Visceral Games devs reveal Dead Space's marketing budget was cut in favor of Mirror's Edge because of mock review scores.

Knightofelemia525d ago (Edited 525d ago )

I wish EA would just release a DS2 remake. DS is my favorite horror game and DS2 is the best one in the franchise. But because DS1 failed to meet certain numbers EA scrapped the DS2 remake. SH2 remake was great rumors are Konami might be asking for another SH remake. The RE2 remake was great EA just needs to give it another try. But all they seem to do is shitty sports games that are no different from the year before. Change a few players, add different uniform colours, maybe change a team logo. Wash, rinse, repeat.

goken525d ago

Agreed. DS was great. But DS2 was even better. Would love to see a DS2 remake, though I would love to see a DS4 even more.
The problem with EA is they make easy $ from the slight changes to their sports titles like football FC games (whatever it’s called nowadays). People just lap that sh1t up.
Comparatively, games like DS which don’t sell 10s of millions, can’t sell them team player add ons and all the like, would seem a hassle to make and unappealing comparatively. Especially when you consider that most EA non sport titles haven’t actually performed well recently.

Pyrofire95525d ago

Dark Souls 2, Darksiders 2, Dead Space 2, Death Stranding 2, Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor 2

chicken_in_the_corn525d ago

The Dead space remake was so good. Better than the original. Shame they won't remake 2.

__y2jb525d ago

I loved the original dead space but the remake I just found boring. Game design has moved on and the game really showed its age, just small area encounters repeated again and again.

DefenderOfDoom2524d ago

I bought Dead Space during launch window and I never bought a Mirror's Edge game .

Inverno524d ago

Then they went on to screw both games over.

UnbreakableAlex524d ago

I'd rather see a new and great Mirrors Edge than another boring Dead Space.

EA Japan Exec Criticises Japanese Ratings Board

An executive of Electronic Arts Japan has criticised the Japanese video game ratings board for allowing upcoming action game Stellar Blade to be released uncensored while EA's own Dead Space was banned in the country.

CrimsonWing69772d ago

He’s got a point. If a game is M-Rated, which is the equivalent of an R rating, I don’t get why you need to censor anything. The rating is the indicator of the content and the age appropriate. If it’s appropriate for adults… why treat them like children? 🤷‍♂️

Eonjay772d ago (Edited 772d ago )

This is about gore... not about anything sexual. And specifically I think it is about the realistic depiction of gore. Unfortunately I don't know the nuance of the CERO board or how it is relevant their specific culture (as a prohibition on gore may transcend age) so I hesitate to make a statement. Can anyone else provide insight to what kind of gore is considered unacceptable?

CrimsonWing69772d ago (Edited 772d ago )

Yea, I know this is about gore, but thanks for pointing that out.

My point still stands, if a game is essentially rated for a mature audience then why censor for them as if they’re too young to view it? Makes no sense.

To answer your question: Decapitation, dismemberment, like… anything gore. They have been censoring that since CERO was established. Look up RE4 chainsaw decapitation or any MK games that made it there.

Cacabunga772d ago

EA Japan? Wtf never heard of that

ZwVw772d ago

Yet, the Oneechanbara series (y'know, the game with half-naked samurai females slicing up zombies to bloody pieces) get released in Japan uncensored.

The CERO ratings board is an equilibrium.

Smellsforfree771d ago

This confuses me since I've seen so many gory Japanese movies and anime. For example, Battle Royale.

gold_drake772d ago

definitely has a point.

but .. its japan. are we really surprised?

VersusDMC772d ago

I don't know if the EA executive is going off the one close up of an arm being cut off in the demo. Maybe it's uncensored because it's the arm of a cyborg or it doesn't happen that often (didn’t see EVE dismemberment when killed in the demo) .

In the states there's a certain amount of swear words allowed to a PG13 movie before it is deemed R. So maybe it's the same in Japan for gore?

Eonjay772d ago

Yes I think you may be on to something. The violence is gory but I wouldn't call it gruesome.

Retroman772d ago

Ea Japan please make Knack 3
in the future

Eonjay772d ago (Edited 772d ago )

Does EA Japan actually make games at all? Or are they just a regional publisher?

Retroman771d ago

I'm sorry Japan Studio made Knack
