Nintendo Switch launched one year ago. Your save data is still at risk.

We love the Nintendo Switch. We just wish we didn't have to say a prayer every time we turn it on.

Sony introduced cloud saves to consoles in March 2011, exactly seven years ago and Microsoft quickly followed suit

Why dafuq is such a concept still foreign to Nintendo? They don’t even allow you to transfer Switch saves to external devices.

solvemymaze3004d ago

Agreed. I love Nintendo, but some of their policies are a bit backwards.

Sgt_Slaughter3003d ago

Most of those backwards things are so simple to fix, too. I blame the way some Japanese companies are run/their mentalities, old school and resistant to change it seems. I could be wrong on that but some other developers also seem that way from there.

Gaming_1st3003d ago

Surely they will allow cloud saves with the paid online service.

Jaypi033003d ago

I agree, sometimes it feels like the gaming industry is held back by such simple problems. Remember when Epic accidentally turned on cross play in their games with a flip of a switch? Now Nintendo can't do cloud saves even though they have servers for things like Pokemon Bank.

Segata3003d ago

Let's see what happens when Switch launches it's paid online service in September.

I wish they would just use cloud saves.

Fullmetalevolust3003d ago

Maybe I'm uninformed in saying this but perhaps the cartridge could at least have a saving component. I feel like the save files aren't big. Didn't cartridges save games back in the snes days ? Maybe I'm backward, or maybe Nintendo is with their implementations.
There's a good chance cloud saving is a coming with the paid online subscription, or in the very least it should be part of the package.

solvemymaze3003d ago

Yeah they did have a save feature on them.
I can't see the EEPROM chips being that expensive these days to save the game.

You've hit the nail on the head with the paid subscription, I think this will utilize cloud saves.

notachance3003d ago

even the current 3DS cartridge can save files, not sure why they decided to not do that with Switch

DillyDilly3003d ago (Edited 3003d ago )

The save data will always be at risk until they let us save them on External Hard Drives (something Sony lets us do)

AuraAbjure3003d ago (Edited 3003d ago )

Can't believe the fuckin Switch is similar to the Wii U in how our saves are permanently stuck on the original console for keeps. Gaylord fockor consoles. I really liked how Reggie disrespected our intelligence by saying the fact it's a mobile console hybrid is why saves can't be backed up. That nature of the console has nothing to do with why saves can't be backed up whatsoever. Facts.

Look I know VIII has its issues and all that but how on earth can the do big anniversary events with new artwork and merchandise for VII, IX and X yet VIII got sweet f*** all.

They could have given it something during its 25th anniversary yet all it got was a single Happy Anniversary post on their social media.

solideagle26d ago

they should know that we are OG fans of VIII as it sold truckload as well. not as much as VII or X. I personally didn't like IX but X and VI are my personal fav.

Shadow Hearts 2 covenant is another game I love. I hope one day someone can make remake, I would be delighted

Final Fantasy VIII is great and you are always the first to defend it in the comments
