i am a ps4 only owner but it's not a bad thing to have options. instead of looking at it through any other point of view why not l0ook at it as something MS has done right and hopefully others will follow. I want all 3 console makers toi learn from each other and make improvements because in the end we as gamers want more not less features/options

now sony has me covered games wise with more than enough support but i wouldn't mind being able to play ps2 games on ps4 without having to pay extra

I saw that, It seems you can choose to render in 4K (9X the resolution of 720p) OR in a special performance mode that increases the framerate mode at the original resolution.

I wonder if this will let You run 60fps on games that were originally locked at 30?

Whats everyones thoughts?

I wish I knew more about that. Does that mean that you lose the 4k mode when you run it in performance? I like that we get options, but they don't or haven't told us the full benefits or technical abilities of each.

I assume that if XB1 games like Witcher 3 are able to double the frame rate with dynamic scaling that the Witcher 2 could possibly do both 4k and 60fps at the same time. Other stuff like better filtering, enhanced textures, and even HDR can be added to older games though so I'm sure it's more a developer decision as to what gets supported.

I noticed there were 2 updates for Halo 3 and Gears 3,I couldn't find anything about it at that time.This is a great way of supporting your BC games though.
(A battle that Sony is definitely losing ATM)

Yea, Mirrors Edge also got a new update. Microsoft said in an interview that when they add support for more titles , that other titles that they already enhanced for the X may also see benefits. So I’m guessing that is what we are seeing.

It is incredible how they are doing the 360 enhancements for the X. Some games rendered their texture mipmaps on the fly on the 360. So for those games, the emulator that they built for the X tells the game engine to render those mipmaps at a higher resolution. Which is why they are able to make the textures in those games look high resolution without going back and physically recreating them. Very cool tech, on top of the 16xAF and 4xMSAA... it makes these games look incredible in 4K on the X.

HDR can be drawn out of some 360 titles that originally used 10bit encoding(most used 8bit) in their rendering pipeline. Though they take those games that they can re-encode in HDR to the original developer to make sure that the HDR look is what their original vision was for the game. If not, Microsoft doesn’t do it. The developer has final say in whether or not the 360 titles that can support HDR, ultimately get it.

I never played the original Crackdown as I only had a PS3 at the time.From what i hear its a great game.

Alright, that’s cool. I’ll check out CrackDown again as a primer for CD3. Wish they’d do that for Vanquish and Bayonetta. Bayonetta’s visuals could use some cleaning up.

Bayonetta would be amazing in 4k , I've got the game on the Wii U and I just re-bought it for the Switch just so I can replay it on the train on my way to work lol :)

Bayonetta in 4k running on the X in backwards compatibility would literally make my year :)

I love the game , still remember how exited I got playing the original.

I played it on the PS3 at the time , I remember seeing my mates version of the game running on the 360 and thinking how crappy the PS3 port was (it was handled by a different studio and was a famously bad port) still I 100%'d the game and spent hundreds of hours mastering the combo's.

I remember me and my buddy reading edge magazine and seeing that it scored 10/10 then rushing out to buy it on the day of release.

Don't care who makes it ... Xbox One BC or a PS4 -Pro remake - give me 4k Bayonetta now !!

Bayonetta is one of my favorite games and favorite characters of all time. I triple dipped Bayonetta for Switch too. Had it for 360, WiiU and now the Switch. If they could just make her look less pixel-y, I’d be thrilled. The game still holds up well, but if they were to slap that in 4K I’d die. I have the Pro and the X so I wouldn’t care which system it landed on. I’d quadruple dip.

I actually wouldn't care if backward compatibility was just running the game as is, since grabing a 360 used is no more than 40-50$ used, BUT having them enhanced?!? That's a whole game changer!!!!

That's cool. Sometimes I can't believe the One X video card is just a $200 gpu (custom version of Radeon 580) and the games still look great in 4k. A lot of optimization going on here. Should be easy for older titles though. Very impress with consoles though.

I don't think it's a question of how easy or not...more of a question of who else is doing this period. No one else is doing this...Microsoft is giving us free enhanced games that still support multiplayer and making the games look very close to current gen titles with current gen features, instead of making it's gamers re-pay for a remake like others are.

We know it can be done for older titles...but when has this ever been done?

It is as far as output being close to 6tflops but you have to remember the memory bandwidth of the GPU is 326gb/sec with 12gb GDDR5 (9gb for GPU) and the 580 is 268gb/sec with 8gb GDDR5, so the memory amount and speed is a little better on the X's GPU :)

The Witcher 2 and Crackdown especially look very good...almost like they were made with base Xbox One in mind, but at 4k. Amazing.

Like what? Crackdown co-op and fable 1 are better additions than anything left on the Xbox one. I play gears 4 in hdr 4K on the xbox slim. It got an enhancement I guess but it didn’t need it lol. See what I’m saying?

Little tidbit for those who don't know what the view button is. To access the 360 menu, press both black buttons, that being start and view, in the middle of the controller at the same time. Then the old 360 wheel menu will pop up. Go to settings and check your desired option. Have fun : )

That is funny...in addition to these classic old titles that are native 4K enhanced for us X owners without a $40 fee, I am enjoying NEW games such as Monster Hunter World, Dragon Ball Z this month and Seas of Thieves next month. Yes, we Xbox One owners have new and old titles to look forward to.

Besides, we X owners will not only get to look forward to new titles like Red Dead Redemption 2 (X will be the definitive console version), but possibly RDR1 also get a native 4K enhanced X mode as well around RDR2 launch. I say, we X gamers get the best of both worlds. 👍🏼

i am not sure why people want to complain about added features that just enhance a console ... this is a dedicated team for backward compatibility that are making sure people keep their library compatible across generations rather than having to pump money into remasters....
Whether they are working on enough exclusives or not is another debate ... just no need to be negative about something obviously positive.

I was hoping we'd get more of these at a faste rpace but as long as they are still pumping more out ... i would imagine some devs are pushing back so they could release their remasters... wish we at least had the option to push all games to 1080p or 1440p and the 4k treatment would be handpicked

Anyone saying that this is anything like bad news are delusional ps fanboys. mike's lemonade, so you're saying "BC is unnecessary and a waste of time"?. I wonder, would you say the same of the untouched PS3 games on psnow that you have to pay again for? If you did your research, you would know that b/c is a feature which was a side project for 12 ms employees. As such it had no bearing on budget or time constraints. Maybe instead of bitching about a much used feature on your favourite consoles competitor you should ask your beloved Sony to implement a similar system on your precious PS4.

Sony fans were willing to pay $40 for the SAME version of Shadow of Colossus for the 2nd time and that game is not even native 4K on the Pro...while they are mocking classic last gen titles like Witcher 2 and Forza Horizon that are made Native 4K and can be free for those tha already have them. Go figure. 🤔
