After Sony attempted and failed with the PS Vita... I doubt MS would head into the handheld arena. There really isn't any need for them to bring one out.

To cut to the chase, I'd say no, I don't think so. I think they'll have an app that allows you to bring an Xbox controller and play remotely, but I don't see them building an entire console for the sake of portability.

Who cares!? As much as I love PSP and PSVita they got creamed by Nintendo portable systems. Atari, SEGA, Neo Geo, NEC, Sony and countless others failed to beat Nintendo in that space. MS has much less of a chance than Sony. No point in MS even trying.

...You mean like how you can stream Xbox One games to PC, Surface, and even Windows/Microsoft phones? With the newest version of Xbox One controllers supporting Bluetooth and drivers available on most any device?

Play Anywhere expands on it even more. Buy for one device and continue where you were on another including Xbox achievements and features such as Game DVR. More are also supporting purchasing on one device then giving you the other copy free.

This way seems much better as developers don't have to tone down their titles to handheld specifications, titles that aren't possible in a handheld environment are still capable of coming and playable in multiple places, even away from home, and features that Switch doesn't have still exists in a usable form via numerous devices. Frankly it seems like Nintendo needs to take a page from Microsoft in this one. Instead of treating each device as an extra finger with a different function Microsoft is treating their devices like a full hand, interconnected but versatile for many functions while staying rooted to Microsoft.

Microsoft has no idea how to market any portable consumer electronics. It would go the way of Zune and the Windows Phones.

i like that concept they made years ago with 360 portable how it still look like the controller with a screen. i would like to see xbox one as well if they do or dont

WHY not just make a portable xbox that plays all your digital games just in a lower resolution mode no games just for the system but just allows you to play all your xbox games on the go. I would for sure pay for that

It's debatable whether there will be too many more Xboxes period, so probably not unless you count the future of Windows phones. A true, dedicated, Xbox handheld probably isn't in the cards.

Microsoft isn't interested in making a dedicated portable device and never will. Instead they make portable Windows devices that can play games. This is their solution for gaming on the go and it serves them well. In terms of first party, they make the Surface line of devices which covers portable devices with Surface Pro, Surface Laptop and Surface Book. These devices pair with an Xbox controller and also incorporate touch screens, pen input and voice.

Microsoft has a store that already houses hundreds of thousands of games ranging everywhere from casual portable games to AAA block busters.

Unlike Sony's solution with Vita, where their console would get the main game while Vita got the "portable" versions of their franchises....in Microsoft's solution, it's the same exact game, same feature set and modes...same everything. Not a dumbed down version. I like this better because like the Switch, you can go from portable to stationary at will, using the same game...ex except with Microsoft you can "switch" between many devices and platforms...console, laptop, tablet, 2n1, desktop, all in one etc...

Microsoft can't even support the xbox one. What makes anyone think they could support a handheld.

gawd i hope so. Really hoping for a steam portable to be honest. proper PC games on the go would be a god send! Mind you I'd be stuck playing Portal 1 and 2 pretty much all the time... Portal Portable anyone?

$$ and Nintendo Switch success so far proves if the games are there, it is very viable. Xbox anywhere with a portable machine is a bonus many gamers wouldn't pass up.
Imagine playing Horizon on a Vita 2... Geez I'd be in immediately, however Sony failed to even push 1st party games at the Vita 1.... But a Xbox anywhere service with a portable opens up a whole new level of support.
We would be having a very different conversation if Vita actually got supported by the company that made it. I still play Borderlands on it but geez, where are all the other games that are as good as that !

Tell me again how the multiplatform strategy was supposed to fix everything. Look at your results and compare them to Nintendo, which keeps thriving with exclusives. Your loyal fans are gone. And let’s not forget the pile of IPs you purchased only to let them rot.

The worst thing is this is down from last years numbers/expectations which was down from the previous years numbers/expectations. You think about how long “down” has been a consistent part of the communication and you realize those subscriptions are what’s holding that boat together. The price cut of gamespass is still a price raise in a string of price raises. They are trying to use players to offset the missing revenue. Now call of duty is out of gamespass, which is literally WHY they bought the company. To draw people to the subscription. They realized they missed a boatload of money and that wasn’t sustainable. Now you pay for it like you would have if they never bought the company… so why buy the company? Mind you those billions still need to be paid back. Yeah it gives you a chance to say we make the biggest FPS… but the internal conversations must be brutal at high level on topics that really matter. Like revenue. Profitability. And ROI for the shopping spree.
