Will Rockstar Become a Two IP Studio?

IGN’s Xbox crew discusses the growing amount of time between new Rockstar releases, and whether or not that means they might become a two-IP (Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead) studio.

fenome3019d ago

Hopefully we'll get more than one game per gen out of them.

Sherif1293019d ago

Rockstar released 3 games last gen, which were GTA IV, Red Dead Redemption and GTA V.

InKnight7s3019d ago

midnight club? and each game has masive DLC expansion.

Ausbo3019d ago

Last gen was a long time though. 8 years. This is probably it from them. The next might be cross gen

super_cuddles3019d ago

GTA 4 , red dead, max Payne 3, la noire, and GTA v , and most of these games had expansions added as dlc

mafiahajeri3019d ago

I love how sure your were xD

fenome3018d ago

Yeah, last gen. How many have they released so far this gen?

Godmars2903018d ago

Your maths no good son...

Skuletor3018d ago

How can you have forgotten Rockstar Games Presents Table Tennis?

JackBNimble3018d ago

Just because we haven't heard any news on anymore games as of yet does not mean that rockstar isn't working on anything.
There are hundreds of developers and multiple studios, do you really think all these people are just working on Gta5 updates and RDR2?

EazyC3018d ago

Max Payne, Midnight Club, Table Tennis...quite a few!

I reckon ps4 will see gta 6 but it will launch after the ps5

I've made $84,000 so far this year working online and I'm a full time student. I’m using an online business opportunity I heard about and I've made such great money. It's really user friendly and I'm just so happy that I found out about it. The potential with this is endless. Here’s what I do>>> http://www.BizPost7.com

Considering that Rockstar has a bunch of studios? No. They're taking a long time, sure, but it's because they can afford to take their time and experiment with ideas and concepts.

_-EDMIX-_3019d ago (Edited 3019d ago )

Agreed. I was just about to say we don't even know what their other studios are doing

I have no idea why Gamers don't really fully understand this and you have multiple articles that don't elaborate or go into detail or even seem to realize that rockstar made up of multiple teams.

So the way I look at it is this article can't really be taken seriously because I'm not even sure the author is educated enough to realize the structure of this team.

Who on Earth is "their"? Dear God are they seriously telling me they don't know that there are multiple teams within Rockstar? He made the statements and never brought in Rockstar Leeds or Rockstar San Diego and it's very apparent because no one's either correcting this or they may not fully understand what they're talking about.

So what I'm hearing stuff like "their a talented Studio" and no plural this tells me they just don't know what they're talking about.

I don't believe every single last support Studio. Rockstar is working on a singular game, that just sounds completely idiotic and I'm not entirely sure why they would come to such a conclusion considering that did not happen any of the previous generations regarding this series of teams.

I don't even think they even know 100% the exact team at rock star that is even making red dead 2 as I'm not even sure it was 100% confirmed for all we know the majority of the team making this is the San Diego team that made the very original Red Dead Redemption, the team that specifically worked on Grand Theft Auto V has likely been developing Grand Theft Auto 6 for years.

mastiffchild3018d ago

While I agree that more titles are both possible and likely we can't ignore the amount of work still going into GTA5 online.

With the stated insistence on their future games having big online elements we can also assume a big staff to service RDR2 online post release. Producing new modes and theists and all sorts has kept GTA going heavily and must tie up devs.

I doubt that means Rock star have no other games in the works but I dunno if there's many now each game needs such support alongside and beyond SP.

I would love to finally see Bully sequel or even Agent but with their games as service focus I fear we need to be more realistic esp as T2 have made awful noises following on from making billions from bloody shark cards. I just wish players would stop supporting that kind of thing as it leads to a place of less and less variety.

_-EDMIX-_3018d ago (Edited 3018d ago )

@mast-I don't disagree that of course there's going to be work done on Grand Theft Auto V in terms of downloadable content but that's normally not going to be done by team of hundreds.

I think the team that does the downloadable content for the Battlefield games is literally like 20 or 30 people.

So take in consideration that the people that work on the downloadable content are not really going to be working on the main games. So the artist the programmers The Producers the story writers what have you all of those people are likely working on Grand Theft Auto 6.

I definitely want to see a sequel to bully to my understanding the rumor was that bully 2 was being worked on and many of the announcements by Rockstar are basically confirming what the original person stated about the leaks.

They were able to confirm lots of downloadable content announcements that were 100% true so I believe bully 2 is probably being worked on buy the original Vancouver team (or what's left of that original team)

I don't care if people support Shark cards as that's up to them that's their choice as long as it does not interfere with the single-player stuff we see from Grand Theft Auto bully Red Dead what have you.

And from what I've seen I don't really believe anything regarding online has affected what you see from the single-player aspect of their games.

fenome3018d ago

They can definitely afford it, they've been coasting on GTAV since last gen.

It’s really absurd how a publisher as big as Rockstar has yet to put out a new game thus far this entire generation.

You could expect that from a developer perhaps but not from a major publisher. No other publisher of this magnitude has skated by four years of a generation through two remasters and DLC alone.

Sgt_Slaughter3019d ago

Unfortunately this is what happens when a company rakes in so much money due to one game and the microtransactions involved with it.

PhoenixUp3018d ago

Then that publisher would continue investing in that one game, not stop releasing new games.

We’ve seen other major publishers become heavily invested in microtransactions yet still release a slate of games annually like a publisher is supposed to.

Rockstar seems to be behaving like the name of their company

jesujohn3019d ago

They might, their games sell a lot so money so less is more in their case.

PlayStation Store’s top downloads of 2025

O'Dell Harmon Jr. writes: "Before we say goodbye to 2025, let’s take a look back and see what were the most downloaded games of the year. It was a great time for sports, shooters, and some new PlayStation VR2 games. Sports favorites topped the charts in US/Canada and EU, with NBA 2K26 and EA Sports FC26, respectively.

Juggernaut GTA V found a home in the top three for both regions, with new 2025 release Battlefield 6 claiming second place in the US. Fortnite took top place for free-to-play games, and Beat Saber continues its PS VR2 success."

FH5 4th in Europe compared to North America 14th. Not surprising.

LucasRuinedChildhood123d ago

I think it shows how shortsighted it was for Sony to let go of Evolution and not get them to make some sort of competitor (open world Driveclub?) 10 years ago.

bionicstar123d ago (Edited 123d ago )

its a hard bet to make. hindsight is always 20/20.

Christopher122d ago

After Driveclub's reception, hard to say it would have done well enough to compete. It's easy to dream of such a thing, but to make it happen? It's taken how long for CoD to be dethroned? And it was dethroned by Hogwart's Legacy and has gained it right back just the next year.

I would like to see a list that has both free to play and paid games together, but at least we have this.

To this day GTA5 is a top downloaded game and it makes me wonder if the industry is really ready for GTA6. I imagine almost nothing else will sell during that game's release window.
