I don't have to read this article to tell you h@ll yes!! I had a SD TV for 5 months before I got my HDTV and there's no question it's a HUGE difference.

duh.. it does make a huge difference. i can't stand it when i see people play ps3 or 360 games on SDtv.. lame.

For all the people that think the HD is much better than the SD, but still dont think BR movies are any good, go slap yourself with a wet hard fish.

The difference between BR and DVD is even greater than the difference shown here, and you're right, its not for everyone, just people with or looking to buy HDTV's which in the next 5 years is just about everyone who has any kind of TV right now.

Halo 3 look better on SD than HD. I think is because it was meant to be play in standar tvs.

I was stunned at the difference when I upgraded to an HDTV. It's absolutely worth it.

then i tried it on a 26 inch SD...holy buttnipples i couldn't stomach it for long.

my eyes were watering from the blurryness since i had been adjusted to playing on an hdtv.

and playing on an hdtv even gives you an advantage. in lots of maps in GoW, your ability to discern and quickly recognize an enemy can mean life or death. for example, on an HDTV, i can see farther and more clear, making that locust aiming at me with a sniper rifle from across the map stand out enough for me to take cover.

on an sdtv, the same locus would freaking BLEND with the background past a certain distance.

Lol. I had to upgrade to HD because my SD tv got f'd up.

for some reason the picture was horozontally streched (ya, i know what you are thinking, check the aspect ratio, which i did) it wasnt a normal strech. it was a concave strech meaing the middle of the 2 sides were fine. but started streching as it went up/down. Sucked. couldnt see websites easily. couldnt see how much health or bullets i had etc.

YEah. but HD (42 inch, 1080p :D ) is awesome. I can see my health now! the Ps3 is crisp. nothings blurry. but thesers one downside...
TV progrmas and DVD's looks sh!t. its real blury. yeah. going to get freeview or whatever, that displays TV programs in HD. and its now Bluray for me! HD rocks.

First off, R1 is a bad game to compare.

Still though the sharpness and definition is HUGE.

What is this guy thinking? Played R1 at launch for a week on SD. Got my 1080p, jaw hit the floor, and never looked back. HD gaming is sweet.

Why compare two different scenes?

HD all the way. Unless you have a crap flat screen that blurs or has a poor black scale. Dark games like fear are almost imposable at times if all your screen is just one shade of black or gray and your not getting a wide range of shades. but if you have a decent flat screen you will have a superior picture any day.

Getting a good SCART cable makes a huge difference to SD as well.

People... still need to be told that HD is better than SD? Really? Wow.

but I can tell you this, when I use component it looks rubbish, both VGA and HDMI look better, I also have an old BUSH TV which will run at 60hz though I do not think it is meant to, but let me tell you the image with a normal Scart not advanced looks fantastic, all the detail is there with no fuzz, what it all comes down to is some TV's are better than others and the BUSH TV at 480I does look better than my HDTV with component.

I got a HD on Saturday, I tried different games sand saw a great difference, apart from when I played GTA IV, that is still a dark game sadly.....

i cant upgrade to hd well have to play resistance 2 and gears of wars 2 on sd tv my luck

LOLZ! This article makes me laugh. I upgraded to an HDTV 2 months ago and now I don't have to strain my eyes to see my surroundings in a game. The text in-game is crystal clear and the colors are brighter and more vivid. I think SD TV's are probably bad for your eyes. You should not have to squint while playing. I feel I have an advantage w/ my new TV and I pwn better than ever b4 online!!!

This gen hasn't been the best for games, last gen consoles are still out there and now there's been talk of the PS6 and Xbox Two for a year or so. Many games this gen will be ported to next gen and the cycle will continue. The re-release of the Neo Geo AES+, games on cartridge for £70 ($95), gaming is going back in time. Gaming has gone pricing mad with the high cost of games, consoles and controllers. The men and women at the top are clueless.

It’s always interesting to hear behind-the-scenes stories like this, especially involving veterans like Shuhei Yoshida and leadership figures like Jim Ryan. That said, there are usually multiple sides to decisions at that level. It could be less about not “listening” and more about differences in long-term vision for PlayStation. Yoshida played a huge role in shaping the brand, so whatever the reason, his impact is undeniable.

If true, and I'm inclined to believe it is, it goes to show that Sony lost their way when they became more western/didn't respect the PlayStation origin story. Andrew House and Jack Tretton did great work, but they also didn't try to fundamentally change the PlayStation DNA. Ryan oversaw the death of Japan Studio and a live service direction.

I miss the first three generations of PlayStation. The way they turned PS3 around, we knew they meant business. We were all worried for a bit there around launch. Eventually from 2008 they started shifting slowly. But since Yoshida was fired, it's never been the same. Still enjoy my PS5 daily. I got a backlog dating back to PS2 lol So I'm fine but new games aren't as appealing anymore.

It seems like we were thrown on to the worst timeline possible where everything is too expensive and the wrong people were put in positions that makes the world a shitty place. We could have had Shu as the head of PS but we got the shitty alternative. Same goes for everyone in power around the world. Doesn’t matter the company or country the majority of us got the shitty picks and the world is declining like never before. I do think PS can come out of this because of their studios, talent and IP but they need someone more in touch with gamers leading things like Shu was. They’re still the best place for console gaming imo but it could be much better than it is especially without the massive live service failures. The rest of the world I have a lot less hope for right now. Hopefully the pendulum swings back towards the good ole days but I’m preparing for the worst.

So now there's certifiable proof that Ryan was in fact "fired", as opposed to when it was first announced that he "retired", in order to save face.

There's another guy who recently "retired" as CEO of another large gaming company, after doing a dismantling job as lead for well over a decade.

seems legit, the business man, fires the one who has ideas to move the business forward.

Jim Ryan is the reason why we are entering year 6 since the PS5 launch and many of us don't feel like the PS5 has gotten started as yet.

I hope going forward, we will see a return to form.
