A Nintendo Switch Virtual Console isn't Needed

The Nintendo Switch lacks a virtual console like its predecessors, What they don't realize is that a Nintendo Switch Virtual Console isn't needed because they have two consoles that play older games. It would also damage their Nindies brand.

It sucks if you don't have an NES or SNES classic, but honestly, I now have all the games I want (I just got an SNES classic). With so many great indie games on switch a VC would just cut into their sales horribly.

_-EDMIX-_2945d ago

? I don't understand? Whose side are you actually on? Because as a consumer more means better you're literally trying to argue that we should not have Virtual Console so that way Indie developers could get more sales by default of having less content to buy

I'm not entirely sure how that helps the customer. If Virtual Console games would hurt the sales in regards to Independent developers it actually simply means their games weren't even that good to begin with if they're going to be losing sales the games that are 20 years old....

Let the customer sorted out and stop trying to manipulate the market, I have no clue how anybody would be in favor of such a thing as if it helps them or something.

b777conehead2945d ago

That’s your opinion. I do not agree

3-4-52944d ago

We don't need one, but they will give us one with the launch of the online in late 2018.

They can't just launch the service with no games to go with it.

It's like you people don't think before you type sometimes.

nintendoswitchfan2946d ago

don't agree in the slightest. where's chrono trigger? what a joke it's not on the SNES classic. it's only 20 games of the hundreds that were on the super nintendo.

guywazeldatatt2946d ago

if I want to play chrono trigger i just go on my wii u, problem solved. it sucks it doesn't have it but these consoles sell super well and make tons of money. a VC would just cut into sales of the consoles. SNES classic sold 4 million last year, 1.3 million a month. NES classic is coming back (must-buy). I guarantee we'll get an n64 classic next year.

nintendoswitchfan2946d ago

it's one of the best games ever. i shouldn't have to have a wii or wii u to play it. total crap. nintendo should have included that and more. 20 games is not enough and $80 for it? what a ripoff.

guywazeldatatt2946d ago

I don't think it's a ripoff. chrono trigger should be there though I agree. I mean the only older console I have that still works is my ps2. so I like having a super nintendo again.since I now have like 90% of the games I want, I'm not that bothered.

Ausbo2945d ago

Most people didn’t buy a wii u cause it’s trash. I want to be able to play older games on my switch.

Neonridr2946d ago (Edited 2946d ago )

it's so easy to mod the SNES classic though... google is your friend

The SNES had more than 20 amazing games, so there were tons of games that were left out. The list of titles that did make it onto the system was still VERY solid.

_-EDMIX-_2945d ago

Absolutely agreed I believe with Nintendo clearly not going to receive the same amount of third-party that you're seeing from PlayStation PC and Xbox they should be looking to add this sooner and faster than Microsoft or Sony simply because it's Nintendo that is actually at the disadvantage in regards to content.

They need all that they could get and they need to capitalize on their nostalgia, I see nothing that is going to help them by having less content.

I as a consumer will have no problem buying Star Fox 64 or Smash Brothers Melee or Super Mario Sunshine what have you on Virtual Console on the Nintendo switch even with owning those games already.

FallenAngel19842946d ago

It’d damn well be appreciated, especially since the first and best incarnation of the Virtual Console will be taken offline this time next year.

guywazeldatatt2946d ago

I'm not saying there shouldn't be one, there should be, but business-wise with what nintendo's doing, and now they are ramping up production of the NES classic again, I don't think we'll see a VC for a while, if at all. which does really suck but I can understand why. I have heard if you have an NES or SNES classic it's pretty easy to hack and put any game on it.

2946d ago
FallenAngel19842946d ago

@ Dark

There are still plenty of titles not in those retro devices. It’s not like Nintendo is going to release new volumes of them.

Yes you can hack it but some people may not want to go through the effort and would just want a legitimate method of playing the other retro titles. It’d be absurd to ignore that market.

@

DJ

You won’t be able to add funds to Wii Shopping Channel after March. So although you can still play the titles you have, you’re limited in getting new retro titles until the service goes offline

oKidUKo2946d ago

I think id prefer it if it did have one. I much prefer one console with capability for older games on it via the store.

guywazeldatatt2946d ago

yeah true i think nintendo's model one the one hand is smart though. like my dad. he wanted an SNES classic to basically learn how to play games again before he'd work up to the switch. we used to play with eachother all the time but that was 20 yrs ago. so their strategy for what they say they are trying to accomplish isn't wring.

Neonridr2946d ago

does it NEED the VC? No, technically not. Do we WANT the VC? Aboslutely.. lol

guywazeldatatt2945d ago

yeah but they are making so much money rn that honestly they don't need it with all the indies

RosweeSon2945d ago

But they could make more some people want the classics and always will new gamers come around all the time and they also may wanna check out the gaming gold that virtual console offers. More options the better plus a paid a minimal fee to get the games from wii VC to Wii U so don’t feel I bought them all again 3ds got 20 for free well I did so yeah I’m not overly bothered about VC on switch but of course I want it until then I have my 3ds as the Wii U is getting retired to the collection and going back in its box.

Shiken2945d ago (Edited 2945d ago )

No fk that. I want classic nintendo games on the go or on my TV. No it does not NEED it, but to say they should just abandon it makes no sense. A VC digital system of some sort is a standard these days. I hope it comes to Switch soon, because more is alwayd better.

Just because YOU might not want something does not mean the rest of us should not have it either. There is no reason nindies and VC cannot co exist.

_-EDMIX-_2945d ago

Ok... Once again what does that have to do with the consumer? We're not talking about what "they" need in terms of Nintendo , were talking about what customers want.

As of right now the Nintendo is basically lacking in all the major third-party releases that are coming out from Red Dead Redemption 2 to Far Cry 5 to Monster Hunter world and all the other big triple a third party games , so it's not going to benefit this company or its customers to continue to have less content especially when the content were talking about is in Direct Control of Nintendo it's not going to take them that much time to Simply put a damn emulator on their store so you could buy those classics.

I'm sorry but those independent games will still exist if Nintendo makes a virtual console store.

Farewell to the Virtual Console, the boldest part of Nintendo's mid-00s revolution

Nintendo's mid-noughties revolution feels so distant now, even if its impact hasn't really dimmed. The touch sensation of the DS led in its own way to the iOS revolution, the motion controls of the Wii helped reestablish video games in the living room and push them towards the mainstream, and the reverberations of both are felt to this day. There's another facet of its revolution that sadly never had the same impact, and now is set to finally fizzle away.

The Virtual Console vs. Nintendo Switch Online

Streaming services have become really popular in the last decade. Are subscription and streaming services right for Videogames?

Nintendo Switch Online has replaced the Virtual Console but is the service up to the standard of previous Nintendo offerings? Furthermore, do subscription services like Xbox’s Game Pass and NSO really suit video games? This article explores these issues and looks back at the Virtual Console.

I see no reason Nintendo can’t just offer both

FinalFantasyFanatic1112d ago

I really miss the VC, I don't want more subscriptions that I have to, I try to keep as few as possible.

silkylove1111d ago

VC is better imo. I got games like Super Metroid for like 30 cents. If NSO allowed you to play online with anybody then I would give it the edge.

Why Can't Nintendo Offer Both Virtual Console And Switch Online?

While that's valid, though, that old social media meme 'why not both?' springs to mind. Why not have subscription options and a Virtual Console eShop? With NSO being multi-faceted in its offering, it seems unlikely that everyone would drop that subscription in a heartbeat in order to buy Super Mario Bros. for $5.

Because a yearly flow of money is better than people buying specifically what they want. If online was also not behind a paywall you'd be surprised just how many people would drop the sub. When you're only given one option there's not much of a choice.

FallenAngel19841149d ago

No reason not to have both. Consumers would have the option of buying separately like PS+ and Game Pass owners can or have access to it all with a sub

Inverno1149d ago

Of course there's no reason, and Nintendo fans have been very vocal about virtual console being brought back. I think however that those who really have an issue with how Nintendo has handled classic games have stayed with emulation. I know the appeal of being able to buy instead of the free alternative. As I see it, it sends a message that there's still an audience for these games, but for whatever reason it may be it's not been made easy to the consumer.

CrimsonWing691149d ago

I miss the Virtual Console. I really want HAM with it on the Wii.

Chocoburger1149d ago

Just another reason why modding your Switch can fix almost all of the flaws Nintendo purposefully created on their platform. Save file back ups being another reason. Nintendo is the only company that forces you to pay money in order to back up your save files, and it doesn't even work for all games. Talk about anti-consumer B.S.!

ZeekQuattro1149d ago

Because it was only successful on the Wii. Both the Wii U and 3DS VC offerings were no where as successful. It was time to move on from that service. More and more 3rd parties devs started supplying older games in other ways on the Switch so there's no need. Look at all the Capcom collections for instance. Even Konami got in on it. Same with Neo Geo or Atari collections. I could go on and on.
