Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass Update is a Major Step Towards Making AAA Gaming Affordable

Okay, Cool's Riley Little writes: "Microsoft’s decision to include first-party releases as Day One titles for its Xbox Game Pass subscription service is a promising direction for gamers."

defintley gona get for crackdown 3 and new forza horizon halo then buy when its on sale probly for $40 by time the month is over its still like paying $50 and I have to do a big download
maybe better to just keep getting game pass if a game I want keeps coming out every 3 or 4 months idk but wont own them if I stop game pass..

Will need millions and millions of subscribers or else it will flop.

This is an unsustainable model. There is no way other developers will be on board with this if they all keep complaining that game development is getting more expensive.

Then take advanatge of it now. I dont get it, you are more concerned about Microsoft losing money than getting to play games for cheap.

Why are you guys suddenly so interest in helping MS to not lose money? I thought you guys want their gaming business to go bankrupt and leave the industry altogether?

timotim3044d ago (Edited 3044d ago )

Flop for who? Microsoft or the consumer/gamer?

PhoenixUp3044d ago

Imagine if they could somehow get a lot of third party publishers on board with this.

I however find it unlikely since you don’t even see a lot of third party publishers embracing Play Anywhere.

DragonDDark3044d ago

I'm still not sure. Doesn't retail give them more money? Unless Microsoft is paying them a lot.

TankCrossing3044d ago (Edited 3044d ago )

Most of them are already dabbling. There are 163 games up at the moment, and most publishers are present to some extent.

I don't see day 1 releases any time soon, but 6 months? 1 year? Will EA Access stand up as a separate subscription? Hard to say, but you know those conversations are happening in the background.

PhoenixUp3044d ago

@ Dragon

Exactly. Microsoft benefits the most from putting all their future titles on this service day one. Third party publishers would have to be compensated for more than the game would make at retail, and I doubt Microsoft would consolidate all those third party publishers to embrace the service. It’s the same reason why you don’t see the majority of them embracing Play Anywhere.

@ Tank

I’m mainly talking about day one releases since of course many publishers will put their back catalogue of titles on Xbox Game Pass like they do with PS Now.

Major step to been online only again and also
Bet u don't see games like red dead day one

Sonic_Vs_Mario3044d ago

Did you not read the article?

"Microsoft’s decision to include first-party releases as Day One titles for its Xbox Game Pass subscription service"

Ittoittosai3044d ago (Edited 3044d ago )

He specifically was talking about third party and you bring up what MS said about first party games. Did you understand his statement?

MasterCornholio3044d ago

Red Dead isn't a Microsoft game though. He is just saying while Microsoft will release 1st party games on the service when the release 3rd parties will probably not do the same.

sizeofyou3044d ago

AAA games aren't cheap to make and while trying to make them affordable to more people is admirable, I don't see the economics adding up. Those that can afford to 'own' will probably continue to do so, which reduces the subscriber numbers further. Interested to see how it goes...

Unfortunately I think so. Not anytime soon. But in a few years time. They want that on everything.

Won't happen, software is where all the money is made. These companies take losses on these consoles and then make up for it with software sales.
