Could Anthem Be a BioWare Killer?

BioWare hasn't been itself lately. Things have seemed to gradually get worse for the developer, and Anthem doesn't seem like it has the hype necessary to help the studio perform a 180.

Naw, that's EA's job. I'm sure they'll sell millions upon millions of copies day one though, they'll be fine.

If anything they might downsize and combine their teams after the Andromeda fiasco.

Parasyte3059d ago

They already closed the studio that made Andromeda

Araragifeels 3059d ago

Objection! BioWare Montreal merge with EA Motive Studio so it was not closed down.

fenome3059d ago

I didn't know that, doesn't surprise me one bit though.

bluefox7553059d ago

I'm sure EA will do that for them. Would be great if it were an EA killer though.

I always thought MS should have had the sense to buy Bioware. They were a good fit together.

InKnight7s3059d ago

I hope they keep this game as awesome as they showed in the trailer, I mean it seems we finally will get a proper flyer game instead of glides, and solid battle system.

fenome3059d ago

I'm cautiously hopeful on this one, the reveal looked badass. I'm just worried they're going to gut it trying to get people to spend more. I hope they don't though it looks really good, I'm way more into third person perspectives than first person shooters too.

PUBG3059d ago

It's a foregone conclusion that they are going to monetize this game to the max. Don't buy into the hype train until we find out everything about this game. Personally, I think this game is going to be a grind-fest. From the trailer at E3, everything centered around the players talking about upgrading their equipment. The only thing that looks good about the game so far, are the graphics.

fenome3059d ago

I'm definitely taking the wait and see approach with this one.

FinalFantasyFanatic3059d ago

I want it to be good, I'm cautiously optimistic they will not mess this title up. I want my Iron Man power armor fantasy fulfilled. Everything they showed in the trailer looked so cool, I'll be disappointed if the game is over monetized or terrible.

USMC_POLICE3059d ago

I don’t understand people’s excitment for this game, did you see NFSP and SWBF2? They will ruin it with micro transactions.

Vectrexer3059d ago

Well if the E3 trailers are an indication of just how the game will play it's a day one purchased for me.
It's a shame, Mass Effect held so many great memories and Andromeda destroyed them...

NarooN3059d ago

I don't see how anybody can be like "day one buy bro!" for any game these days, let alone a Bioware/EA game. Andromeda was a disaster and every other EA game has been controversial for all the wrong reasons. I doubt this game will go by unscathed.

FinalFantasyFanatic3059d ago (Edited 3059d ago )

I guess it depends on the development team or the series, I'd buy a new Persona game day one, I used to buy a new Final Fantasy game day one (not anymore though). Some games are consistent enough that I feel safe to plonk down my cash for it, other times I wait for reviews or see what everyone else thinks (I waiting a long time after Destiny 2's release and tried the demo, glad I didn't end up buying it even though I strongly considered it).

Vectrexer3058d ago

Well bro I bought many many games day one without any regrets. The fact that you don't understand this is on you.

Andromeda was definitely not day one for me although I did purchase it an extremely cheap price later I feel it wasn't worth that price either.

So it's never just any game that's a day one purchase I look into every aspect I can before purchase and 9.5 times out of 10 it was a right call for me.

combatcash3059d ago

The E3 trailer looked amazing, simply stunning. It looks like a day one for me too. Don’t get all the disagrees, if Sony was publishing it, people would be jizzing all over the place with excitement,

Could Anthem live on? Tech allowing local server hosting existed, former executive producer says

BioWare's multiplayer shooter Anthem was terminated this week because EA no longer wanted to maintain servers for people to play the game on, and without them, no one can play the game. But the former executive producer of Anthem has revealed that BioWare had technology working, close to the game's release, that would enable us to host our own servers to play the game on.

EA/Bioware should allow us to host our own servers to let this game live on.

Christopher142d ago

I'd be fine just playing it as a localhost and dumb as rocks AI bots. Just give me the choice.

Anthem Players Report Download Errors A Week Before Shutdown

BioWare and EA had previously said the game would be accessible to those who owned it until it shuts down on January 12.

anast151d ago

Never buy online games unless there is some kind of refund policy.

Only days remain before EA will switch off the servers to BioWare's ill-fated multiplayer game

Time flies (like a Javelin suit): there are only 10 days left to play BioWare's ill-fated multiplayer game Anthem before the servers are switched off, presumably forever.

In my opinion, Anthem was a good IP that was worthy of a no man's sky or cyberpunk 2077 treatment.

To this day, their sub reddit is active and I was able to get into a game quickly a few weeks ago when I booted it up.

It is a shame EA and Bioware didn't want to give the game the overhaul it needed to turn it into a competent looter shooter.

GamerRN154d ago

They were close to releasing the overhauled version and then EA cancelled it

TheGamersDojo152d ago

I wholeheartedly agree. If ANY game deserved to get the rework/relaunch it deserved it was this one. More than literally any other. Even over FFXIV, No Mans Sky etc.

SlothLordPootus154d ago

I just finished this up a couple days ago. Although it's a bit repetitive and the story is meh, the game feels great to play. Even if you can only hop on the game for a couple hours before it shuts down, I think it's worth it.

chicken_in_the_corn154d ago

Really enjoyed this. Shame to see it go.

Software_Lover154d ago

I didnt know servers were still up. I could have been playing!!!

2nd comment attempt (1st doesn’t appear & this may register as duplicate):

They can spend billions to buy or get bought but they can’t spend a fraction of that to fix or overhaul a game that could have been truly special, smh.
