In the wake of the recent Battlefront II scandal, consumers have called into question many of the practices seen in video games over the last few years.

There’s no problem with $60 games, it’s games that cost that much and still have a plethora of microtransactions like they’re free to play games

nowitzki20043042d ago

There is a problem with them.. You cant tell me every game that is $60 should be $60 MT or no MT.IMO some games should cost more than $60 and some that are $60 should be $20-$40

JackBNimble3042d ago

Come to Canada and you will surely pay more!

Krysis3042d ago

Most games do cost more that $60, at least for the full experience, or if you want all items.

ShaunCameron3041d ago

@ JackBNimble

We're just paying whatever's the equivalent of $60 USD here. The late 2000's-early 2010's are not coming back for us.

CrimsonWing693041d ago

You’re talking about perceived value at this point which is entirely subjective. Someone could very well argue a game you feel should be $20-$40 is a $60 game to them.

That’s more of a case by case topic than the idea of $60 games as a whole

$60 games are fine when they are worth it. Only about 25% of games released are worth that though. Many games would do better launching at $50 or $40 and staying there for a bit rather than launching at $60 and being $40 two weeks later because nobody bought it.

The 12 man on the rockets bench and Lebron James are not worth the same amount.....but according to the video game industry....they are.

Top people...mainly publishers in this country in all entertainment are just plain out of touch with reality and they don't care.

Only way too make them care is not buy their game.

Next year, i'm waiting till black friday for game sales. Bought bf2 for 38$ on xbox live.

arkard3042d ago

And you still overpaid for the game

InTheZoneAC3042d ago

I bought it used, never giving EA another dime.

Fist4achin3042d ago

No problems, I just don't like to see unfinished or buggy work products. Those shenanigans would never fly in my workplace.

There is nothing wrong with $60 games. Devs/Pubs need to keep their budgets in check.

cactus12303042d ago

lets not forget how expensive cartridges were to manufacter , if anything prices should be going down not up. how about you NOT overpay for celebrity voice acting and focus on a complete game

AceRimmer3023042d ago

Don't know why you're downvoted. As a kid it wasn't uncommon to pay $70-100 for cartridge based games. And this was over 20 years ago. Frankly, it's amazing they've stayed at $60 for so long.

InTheZoneAC3042d ago

there's more people buying games today so prices shouldn't go up.

Aloren3042d ago

Well, cartridges were more expensive than discs for sure, but not THAT expensive. Just cause it costs you 5 bucks to manufacture your cartridge instead of 5 cents doesn't mean that a game that cost you 200k to make deserved to be sold $80..... Games were just insanely overpriced. Way more than they are now.

The "understandably" expensive cartridges were the ones with processors inside, like neo geo games, Virtua racing on Genesis or super fx games on SNES...

cactus12303041d ago

no, they were THAT expensive, I remember games that required more megs costing 10-20 dollars more than regular games, they were quite expensive

ShaunCameron3041d ago

Games were overpriced back then to compensate for the smaller userbase.

Nintendo Switch 2 Drops Must-Play Free FPS You Can Enjoy From Today

In 2023, developed by Blizzard Entertainment, Overwatch 2 was released, which was basically a big, glorified update of the original game that launched in 2016. Now, it’s simply reverted to being called just Overwatch, which is probably for the best.

The second iteration of Overwatch was released on the original Nintendo Switch, and while it’s still an enjoyable game with cross-play/progression functions, it’s still lacking in terms of performance and visuals, compared to its PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S counterparts. Well, it was.

As of today, the second iteration of Overwatch is natively available on the Nintendo Switch 2, just in time for Season 2: Summit.

The Nintendo Switch 2 version of Overwatch will have increased resolution both in handheld and docked modes, enhanced textures and lighting, up to 60 frames-per second, improved audio and more.

Blizzard is readying a patch to address the issue that the game is still running in Switch 1 build and just 30 fps.

Neonridr9d ago

you'd think they'd test it before pushing it live, lol.

that being said, clearly it's not running as intended.

repsahj9d ago

They know it for sure. Maybe they didn't finish optimizing the game by the targeted release date. That's why they released the Switch 1 30fps version first. XD

Honestly Thank Goodness!! Yet another good sign of a possibility of returning to what made them great and undoing Jim Tyans trend chasing love service gamble. Still gotta wait and see just what direction they're going but this is a good sign in my book that they're not betting it all on live service anymore

S2Killinit76d ago (Edited 76d ago )

Not sure what you lot are talking about anymore. They need to cover all range of games. Im primarily a single player gamer, but even I cannot be daft enough to ignore the fact that we need all manner of games including live service games. Everyone here seems to be a market expert.

isarai_lee76d ago (Edited 76d ago )

Yes "all manner" not just exclusively live service like Jim was doing, but you also shouldn't be forcing devs to make games they not only have no experience making, but also flatout dont want to do.

S2Killinit76d ago

Assuming that anything like that is actually the case and not just a perception of n4g commenters of course.

Redemption-6475d ago

@isarai_lee

I don't understand why you people have to keep making up lies. You can say you don't like some or most of their focus being on live service games, but to say they were exclusively focusing on live service games is pure copium. At most half of their games were live service and the rest were single player games. Seriously why lie about something so obvious?

isarai_lee75d ago

@Redemption-64

You say that as if we don't have word directly from Jim Ryan and PlayStation stating they wanted at least 12 live service games released within a year. Followed by tons of official word of those Live Service games being cancelled after he was pushed out. All studios combined at the time PS had 15 studios, 12 is a hell of a lot more than half of 15, and it was definitely their primary focus evident by the fact that a huge portion of their studios have taken uncharacteristically long to release or announce anything since, hell some studios have yet to release anything this gen almost 6 YEARS LATER! The only one making stuff up is you.

It may take a while but maybe they are finally learning. Good! Now stop with the live service crap.

ABizzel176d ago

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with a live service here or there, but to have many of your studios start focusing on it when there has been little to no experience among them was wild.

Christopher76d ago (Edited 76d ago )

They say this and then immediately release news of the Horizons co-op game that will definitely be a Live Service game.

isarai_lee76d ago

I feel like they knew that given the fact that the very furst thing they say in the trailer is to reassure they still make so games 😆

Bet they're regrettings spending those billions pretty hard right now.

S2Killinit76d ago

Destiny has been a huge success.

Redemption-6475d ago

They will not. Destiny has been popular for over 10 years, something most games can never hope to achieve. Most people, including myself those Bungie was going to make a D3 after the final shape DLC. Marathon looks to be a hit and a D3 announcement could break records.
