The Switch is on fire, and nearly every game is doing well. But how long can this last?

If Pokemon get released, that bubble will turn into a Force Field. lol

NecrumOddBoy3119d ago (Edited 3119d ago )

A true console Pokemon RPG would basically have Nintendo rubbing poke balls all over the chins of their enemies. Well if they don't screw it up. lol

JaguarEvolved3119d ago (Edited 3119d ago )

It will. Lack of games will cause it. People expects the little games Nintendo has coming to sustain the high demand. I have a switch and I think the system is severely lacking games. Zelda is a good game as well as Mario and a few others but because there won't be a steady stream of highly anticipated games I don't see the high demand for the switch continuing for too much longer. Other than bayonetta 123 and metroid 4 i dont even know of anything else coming for the system. I could be wrong and it sells amazingly well all throughout 2018 but I'm constantly waiting for a lot more games that interests me on the system.

The 10th Rider3117d ago (Edited 3117d ago )

@JaguarEvolved,

Bayonetta 3, Metroid Prime 4, Pokemon, Fire Emblem, Yoshi, Kirby, Project Octopath Traveler, Shin Megami Tensei 4, and No More Heroes 3 are all confirmed. Most of those are 2018 titles and there's guaranteed to be other 2018 exclusives that we don't know about (at this time last year we knew almost nothing of the Switch's 2017 lineup).

A lot of previously handheld exclusive franchises, such as Ace Attorney, are making their way to Switch and a lot of Japanese 3rd parties are looking to hop on board. Tales Of, Valkyria Chronicles, Dragon Quest, and many more are on their way.

There's also surely a new 2D Mario and an Animal Crossing in the works, both of which are huge Nintendo franchises, and in 2019 or 2020 a new Mario Kart and Smash Bros should be on their way. I don't think Nintendo will have any trouble maintaining their momentum. Heck, even Mario Party and Mario Sports games are typically a hit with casual audiences and we haven't heard anything about either of those. Throw in games like Donkey Kong, Pikmin 4, Retro Studios project, Next Level Games project, and more and they've got more than enough padding to last them a while.

The only thing that would concern me is if they announced a 3DS successor, but from the looks of things they don't have any intention of doing so.

Prince_TFK3117d ago

Seriously JaugaurEvolved, you are talking like the Switch had been released for years. Nintendo is not MS. This year they had so many games released such as BOTW, Arms, Splatoon 2, Mario K8D, Mario+Rabbit, Pokken, FE Warrior, Mario O, Xenoblade 2. That is a very respectable list for a console that is first year on the market. What else do you want on top of that for its first year? For them to give you 1 million dollars in cash?

Lack of games my ass. Next year it gonna get even much better than this as the 3DS’s support starts to dwindle down.

_-EDMIX-_3117d ago (Edited 3117d ago )

I mean you guys get so offended from Jaguars comment it is not him saying that any of those games are bad it's simply saying that it is a very small amount of games compared to the competition.

At the end of the day regardless of the game's your listing you're still going to be absent of major titles like Battlefront Destiny 2 Call of Duty Assassin's Creed Far Cry 5 Red Dead Redemption 2 etc

Because of that Nintendo is going to be more Reliant on its first party offerings.

@10th-I dont think anyone could say for certain see that most of those are 2018 titles because I don't even believe there's enough information to 100% confirm all those are going to meet that release window.

You will also need to consider you might believe that is a great list of games but that literally pales into comparison to even what's releasing in Spring by all the major third parties.

Put this into perspective you're the one that believes Nintendo has the more dominant line up yet PlayStation 4 will still able to outsell it worldwide.

Consider it's probably because of the laundry list of third-party games that are coming to that system that are clearly not released on Nintendo switch consider that's not really changing next year as a lot of those titles were confirmed to not have switch versions.

So I wouldn't say it is because of lack of games simply lack of games in comparison to the opposition that is receiving all the mega Blockbuster third-party games.

ie look at this year

I'm sure you could make a list that shows of Zelda Mario Odyssey Xenoblade 2 Splatoon 2 arms and a whole bunch of other games but you have to consider there's also a longer list of games that did not come to the system.

You are also need to consider that the list of those games clearly did not get the switch worldwide to outsell PlayStation 4 this year which kind of shows it's probably not going to next year either.

Is very much up to Nintendo to release lots of games to keep momentum.

I'm sure Nintendo releasing some fun games next year that you're going to enjoy but that's not really going to take away that Red Dead Redemption 2 is coming to Xbox one and PlayStation 4 along with a laundry list of games.

admiralvic3117d ago

@ _-EDMIX-_

I agree with much of your point, but there are still factors you're either overlooking or discounting.

"You are also need to consider that the list of those games clearly did not get the switch worldwide to outsell PlayStation 4 this year which kind of shows it's probably not going to next year either."

For instance, regardless of how good or bad those games are, you can only sell as many system you produce. Most of the year there was inventory problems and it's literally impossible to outsell a product with fewer units on the market. Especially when, even now, the Switch is a strong seller with plenty of demand.

While I certainly agree that it will be interesting to see what the future holds and whether or not the Switch will prove successful in the long run, it has the two most important things. A reason for people to buy the Switch version over another console and a good install base. Even if Switch games have a lower resolution and/or can't play as well as other consoles, the ability to easily play something like Skyrim on the go is enough to make people overlook these problems. From there, the Switch's player base already, basically, rivals the Wii U's lifetime size. This should be enough for companies to test the water.

Sure, it might not have some of the biggest titles, but it has a strong gimmick and enough potential cash to, if nothing else, be hopeful for the future.

The 10th Rider3117d ago (Edited 3117d ago )

@EDMIX,

"Put this into perspective you're the one that believes Nintendo has the more dominant line up."

I actually never said that, but it's really nice of you to put words into my mouth and then type up 250 more words about it, lol. I've said something along those lines specifically and solely about first/second party games, so maybe that's where you're confused.

"I mean you guys get so offended from Jaguars comment it is not him saying that any of those games are bad it's simply saying that it is a very small amount of games compared to the competition. "

And now you're putting words in JaguarEvolved's mouth. Nowhere did he say anything about the number of games compared to the competition. He was purely talking about the number of games coming out and being unsure about it, so I provided a list of games we know are coming and other games that we can hypothesize about.

Other than that, you're ignoring the fact that the Switch will likely attract the developers that were previously making games for 3DS and Vita and thus receive a whole host of third party support that the other consoles may not be getting. On top of that it will likely attract a ton of Japanese third party support, which could include games like Neir, Nioh, and Persona. Although it won't get all Western AAA titles it'll manage to get a few and after combining that all together with Nintendo's first party lineup the console will have a very competitive lineup. Right now it's just the console's first year and it's managing pretty dang well against other consoles that are just now reaching their prime.

danglyparts3117d ago

@JaguarEvolved,

There won't be a drought of games. With first party alone, there won't.

I don’t see Pokemon releasing until late 2019. Assuming it’s a new gen, Nintendo will likely stick to their “new gen every 3-4 years” business model, and Sun & Moon are only just over a year old.

The 10th Rider3117d ago

They actually started development for this one just around the time Sun/Moon finished up. The team doing Ultra Sun/Moon is a new team of younger developers that were going to assist the more experienced Pokemon Switch team when Ultra Sun/Moon were finished.

There's also been speculation that Stars was real and in development for Switch during Sun/Moon's development but that they decided to make an original game for Switch instead. That's certainly possible considering we saw some high-fidelity models of a Pokemon or two in some of the dev videos of Sun/Moon. They were hiring for Hd console development back in March so it seems they brought some extra staff on board too.

I used to also be of the opinion that Pokemon Switch would be fall 2019/Spring 2020, but after looking into it it seems they're really targeting that late 2018/early 2019 window.

Sirk7x3117d ago

I don't think there's ever been more than two years between a mainline Pokemon game, and in recent times there's been a release almost every year, if you include generational updates.

DialgaMarine3117d ago

@Sirk How long have you been playing Pokémon? I’m talking about full on generation gaps

Pokemon US releases:

Red & Blue: 1996
Gold & Silver: 2000
Ruby & Saphire: 2003
Diamond & Pearl: 2007
Black & White: 2010
X & Y: 2013
Sun & Moon: 2016

There’s never been less than 3 years between new generations.

I’m personally hoping Pokemon doesn’t release until late 2019 or later because this is going to be the biggest hardware jump between Pokemon games in the history of the RPG Pokemon titles (if you exclude the GC titles of course), and I want Gamefreak to not be rushed but instead put out an amazing product.

blawren43119d ago

not going to dignify this with a click.

jaymacx3117d ago

same here, Nintendo knows what it has to do. They got the ball rolling. They just have to keep the games coming. Also 3rd party support is growing rapidly.

davand1143116d ago

When that bubble bursts it's going to be a disaster.

blanka45453117d ago

it will last a long time! With 3rd party developer support let's go Nintendo! :)

DialgaMarine3117d ago

Not really. Switch, just like every other Nintendo console, is not a third party machine. It can get the games, but they will still sell far better on PS4 and Xbone. Ever since PS1 launched, that’s just how it’s been.

danglyparts3117d ago

Yeah! Except you're wrong.

narsaku3117d ago

The system is immensely popular and we're looking at another, "Wii", success story.

..That bubble bursting?.. Please. We're looking at this generation's most important gaming console.

BlackTar1873117d ago

most important? Wow lay off the kool-aid.

Concertoine3117d ago (Edited 3117d ago )

Most important, not best.

As it stands, the Switch is the only console capable of reigniting Japanese interest in console-style games. The PS4 has great Japanese games but they evidently werent enough in a country where living space is increasingly limited and TV's are losing frequency.

That market has shrunk as handhelds became more appealing with mobile games eating both markets, and its why you saw so many third party devs like Capcom pandering to the west with traditionally Japanese IP's last gen.

BlackTar1873117d ago

i didn't say best. I said it is not the most important. Talking about Consoles ten trailing off into houses don't have TV with small living space ie a damn Handheld that can display on TV. It's a handheld it really is.

danglyparts3117d ago

Definitely most important. Best is still to be seen (also subjective).

_-EDMIX-_3117d ago

No we're not looking at any wii type success story cuz this is technically selling less than the Wii.

And as for most important game console that seems kind of over-the-top and exaggerated if I would say every game consoles importance of the industry I don't believe one is any more important over the other lol

Segata3117d ago

It's selling at the same rat eas PS4. Wii launched in November during the holiday season. Switch in March. Switch was the best selling Black Friday console. The system has had a lot of shortages. We don't know if it has Wii success or not yet but we do know it's doing extremely well despite some drawbacks. Context is king.

_-EDMIX-_3117d ago

@seg-the Nintendo Wii also has shortages..

PlayStation 4 has actually outsold the Nintendo switch every single month worldwide.

Segata3117d ago

_-EDMIX-_

Talking about the first 9 months. PS4 and Switch both sold 10 million in the first 10 months on the shelf.

_-EDMIX-_3117d ago

@Seg- "Talking about the first 9 months" Yea ok.

PlayStation 4 has actually outsold the Nintendo switch every single month worldwide.

Not sure why you keep trying to spin it. First 9 month, first month, who cares? PS4 has outsold the Switch every month world wide. PS4 sold more this year even in the same time frame as that is what "EVERY MONTH" means.

Why spin? Its not saying something is wrong with switch, simply that 1 number is bigger then the other.

DashMad3117d ago

You're practically comparing console launch and console in it's peak year of course it will be higher using comparison like is idiotic just like says hypothetically if PS4 launched on 2009 it's first year sales will be butchered by Wii almost everyday in year where wii sales peaked, that's why you have to use launch aligned if you want to compare hardware sales, otherwhise your point is moot since we don't know if switch will peaked this year or next year or two year later.

DialgaMarine3117d ago

I wouldn’t call Switch the “most important”.

That title definitely goes to PS4. 1) people were anticipating that dedicated consoles this gen would face a slow and painful death at the hands of mobile gaming, but PS4 has long since shattered that stigma. 2) if MS had their way with Xbox because PS4 somehow failed to appeal, more than likely would’ve stuck to their original model which would’ve led to the death of dedicated consoles. Switch is showing us a new dimension, but Nintendo has been heading in this direction for several years; it’s not exactly important to gaming as a whole, just to Nintendo.

Look I know VIII has its issues and all that but how on earth can the do big anniversary events with new artwork and merchandise for VII, IX and X yet VIII got sweet f*** all.

They could have given it something during its 25th anniversary yet all it got was a single Happy Anniversary post on their social media.

solideagle66d ago

they should know that we are OG fans of VIII as it sold truckload as well. not as much as VII or X. I personally didn't like IX but X and VI are my personal fav.

Shadow Hearts 2 covenant is another game I love. I hope one day someone can make remake, I would be delighted
