Why Sparking Controversy Doesn't Work as Intended.

One thing the opponents of these games fail to take into account, is that sparking controversy doesn't have the effect they desire.

Not at all and all the hoopla didn't dissuade me in the slightest. Seeing opinion piece after opinion piece saying how terrible it was did get in my nerves!

I find it hilarious that the woman protesting the game thinks you get points if the girl die. Maybe she should research Quantic Dream and the games they've released.

SavageKuma3075d ago

After reading your article I do believe that people interpret things wrong. As you stated with the woman believing the guy was the abuser. I find that making a game believable and have you build a connection is great story writing like Beyond two Souls or in certain cases Max Payne. Putting us in a controversial situation to either save or let someone go drives us as gamers. That's why I am looking forward to the story of God of War since now he has a kid with him I want to see where that goes.

Controversies can be powerful, free publicity.

bluefox7553074d ago (Edited 3074d ago )

The thing about these so-called controversies, is that they don't exist in the real world. The vast majority of regular people are not outraged or upset in the slightest. They're ginned up by gaming "journalists" who live in an ideological bubble.

I thought it was one of the greatest game trailors ever produced.

Dealing with difficulty issues is a positive. Hiding away from them does not help anybody.

Chaosdreams3074d ago

I felt an instant emotional connection. "I need to save that little girl" & "Come on. You can do it android/robot lady, save the day." That's what went through my mind.

On sale for under 10 bucks very often. I wonder how many actually finished or even played for 20 minute.

babadivad122d ago

I played and beat it. Heavy Rain was better.

neutralgamer1992122d ago

heavy rain was something really special

salis844122d ago

Disagree.

The choices in Heavy Rain barely mattered, it was mostly illusion of choice.

Detroit had tons of endings huge sections of the game were unlocked or skipped depending on the choices you made. Detroit was actually the game adventure gamers had asked for, for generations, but no other dev wanted to take the time to make. And no dev has replicated that level of choice/consequence since.

Yui_Suzumiya122d ago

Many years back I beat it on PS4

TheDreamCorridor122d ago

It was a shame that QuanticDream had to get with all that controversy.

This would have been a good pickup for Sony to get as a first-party studio.

...this has got to be a joke, the thing looks like it was put together by me when comparing it to something from Boston Dynamics from 20 years ago. They might make good Halloween decorations though as they move more like an animatronic from Spirit Halloween

Is N4G a place to promote a conman now?

Babadook7576d ago (Edited 576d ago )

I disagree. BD is pretty scripted. This is using AI to act. Not the same thing. If you don't like Elon what about Figure 01, 02? Same general concept.

MrDead576d ago

I'm talking about the "robots" ability to do anything, Boston Dynamics have proof of concept and what they build does what they say, the Musk just has an extremely curated video of robots shuffling around like a 90yo. I can see why this presentation tanked Teslas stock price by $60billion.

The dumbass even thought his bus was a good idea, a vehicle that's meant to be mass transit has no ground clearance and they boxed the wheels in making it turn poorly or wasting massive amounts of space on the interior.

Babadook7576d ago

I think it's ahead of Boston dynamics in terms of being a product. Like I said prescripted is not really the same thing as thats not really particularly useful, at least in the human form.

Grilla576d ago

AI? Those bots were controlled by ppl. It’s vaporware

cartoonx1576d ago

AI is also pre-scripted, just more advance. there is a reason you keep getting new version of chat GPT. trained more, better data, algo improved.
It's just a fancier way of pre-scripted. its still limited to what is trained on, how its train, and generative capabilites are limited to how its written.
