They Sure Make a Lot of These, Don't They?

Let's see: 18 games in 10 years.

Comparisons:
Call of Duty - 14 games in 14 years.
Super Mario - 23 games (including arcade, Japan, and handheld only titles), 32 years
Legend of Zelda - 18 games (including handheld, side games), 31 years.

Judging from results I would venture to say that a break wouldn't hurt Assassin's Creed. Nor would making one every two years be a bad idea, so the franchise (and gamer) has time to breathe.

They stopped doing the annual release after Syndicate. I think they should extend it to every 3 years, personally, so that they have ample time to refine the game before it gets released.

Should Ubisoft continue making Assassin's Creed games? Well it's there biggest franchise that generates the most money for them - I don't think they're going to stop!

dumahim3092d ago

Have they said they'll continue with the 2 year gap?

ziggurcat3092d ago

If it gets them better results, I think they will probably keep the 2 year break. You can already see the difference in quality between Origins, and any of the others that were on a 1-year release schedule.

strayanalog3092d ago

I definitely don't disagree with you about a franchise break, whether it's 2 or 3 years, as any time between installments can help. But I am talking about the franchise as a whole - every title, big or small, including the two Chronicles' titles between Syndicate and Origins.

Regardless of your opinion, the series will continue. Besides, we need to know how Bayek and Aya end up in the same tomb.

Regardless how you feel, as long as the series is making enough profit, Ubisoft will keep pumping out more. I'd say if they changed to a biannual or once every three years release schedule it should result in better quality games and gamers wouldn't feel as jaded on the franchise that way either.

Fist4achin3092d ago

They're going to milk it till it's done! It's all about the cabbage!

Lovable3092d ago

Kill the series. It has run dry...

I've Been Replaying Assassin's Creed Origins, And It's Reminded Me What Shadows Is Sorely Lacking

It took going back to a much older game to realise just how empty Assassin's Creed Shadows feels.

"I've never thought feudal Japan would be a good Assassin's Creed setting. Give me 1960s southern England with mods and rockers."

Aaaaaaand that's where I stopped reading.

Terry_B365d ago

Never read anything on that website.

chicken_in_the_corn365d ago

I agree with the first part of their statement. Japan is so overused and it wasn't particularly interesting in Shadows. Now that it's been done, they can do something better.

isarai364d ago

Tf? Almost had an aneurysm at the thought of that concept, like what?

And shadows reminds me of something origins is lacking. Virtually every game is lacking something. It is because it is lacking, that it has what it isnt. Funny dichotomy that…

anast365d ago

Origins is a beautiful game made by talented people that got turned into a brutal level-gate fest by the CEOs.

PRIMORDUS365d ago

There are only a few Assassin's Creed games I played. Original, The Ezio Collection, and what I think is probably the best in the series Assassin's Creed Odyssey with the DLC. I'm done with the series, it's the same shit.

isarai364d ago (Edited 364d ago )

Same, enjoyed 1, looooved the ezio trilogy, and 4 was peak, everything after that just sucked. Unity was a great direction but the bugs and how long it took to fix killed it, best parkour system in the series tho

AC Origins is the last great Ubisoft game. Period. This game show how great the Ubisoft story writing once was. Also the meticulous research Ubisoft did in the field of Egyptology. Ubisoft was so pride of their research that it made a separate Touring mode just to showcase all of their study.

10 Video Game Sequels That Saved Their Franchise

Video game sequels like Assassin's Creed Origins, Doom (2016), and Fire Emblem Awakening were just what these franchises needed to be revitalized.

Immagaiden1117d ago

Lmao what’s Halo Infinite doing on this list?

Who would ever say Halo Infinite saved the Halo franchise

SullysCigar1116d ago

Thought the same - very bizarre!

RE7 though... my God, what a shift over RE6! That franchise was definitely going in the wrong direction, so RE7 was a welcome return to form.

ModsDoBetter1116d ago

Resi 6 was and still is the worst entry in the series.
7 was a great turnaround, despite people’s concerned about the switch to FP perspective.

DMC5 definitely helped the franchise after the whole DmC debacle. Whilst it was a decent action game, it was a far cry from the series and the characters we knew.

AC Origins is my favourite in the entire AC series. Despite the switch to a more RPG style of gameplay - the setting, soundtrack, length, etc were all amazing. sadly followed up by the ridiculously long and “more of the same” Odsyssey.

I don’t feel it’s fair to say the franchise slipped with Doom 3, Doom 3 was incredibly atmospheric and took the game in a different direction but there’s no denying Doom (2016) was sensational.

Halo 4 & 5 were disappointing but Halo Infinite definitely didn’t save the franchise? What?

TheEnigma3131116d ago (Edited 1116d ago )

I'm going to have to go with SMB 3. I was around when SMB 2 first came out and people hated it. 3 is still arguably the best mario game created.

HellspawnPR19811116d ago

"Halo Infinite"? Worse Halo ever. Whoever made this list just lost all credibility.

Hofstaderman1116d ago

In future lists of a similar nature I have a suspicion Final Fantasy XVI will feature.
