I don't mind grinding as long as there's a sense of accomplishment at the end, AND it's rewarding.

The worst thing about AC: Origins is the way the story grinds (heh) to a halt and forces you to do side quests in order to be a high enough level to continue in the main story because it ripped off Witcher 3's questing system. And as much as I think Witcher 3 (and the Witcher series as a whole) is overrated and mediocre at best, at least W3 had some fun, compelling side quests that felt like they mattered. The side stuff in AC:O is just involved busywork.

So yeah, grinding is becoming a problem. Especially since every game needs to be open world these days because gamers can't understand that 60 dollars doesn't need to mean 60+ hours of content.

I don't really go searching for hiddden things or accomplishments. I'll try sidegames sometimes though, and collect some stuff. I prefer just completing story mode.

Grinding is fine if the grind is actually fun, the problem is that no gameplay can sustain its fun-ness after hundreds of hours of doing it. It's also kind of just padding. Too many RPGs are tiny when you remove the grinding / farming, and that's kind of ridiculous. There's about 10-15 hours of original stuff, and the rest is just soul-crushing grinding. What's more, no reward feels worth it if you have to do too much work for it. I can't count the number of times I've grinded for something in a game, finally got it, and then, in my head, said to myself, "well, that wasn't worth the hassle".

If you're going to have grinding in your game, a. make sure that the gameplay involved is inherently fun, and b. make sure that the amount of grinding required isn't excessive, because if it is, this will eventually undermine the fun of the gameplay (if it's fun, that is) - you want to preserve the fun of the gameplay, not ruin it with endless repetition. I want getting the reward to be pleasurable, but I also want what I have to do to get the reward to be pleasurable / fun. In fact, when a game achieves this, you can't even call it "grinding", because grinding implies struggle and frustration and tedium. If the work you have to do to get a reward is fun, it's not really "grinding". So yeah, f**k grinding (and farming).

Uhm.... ok ;) i'm not a big fanatic of grinding myself but sometimes i don't mind. Grinding is one of the parts of RPG mostly and i love them.

Maybe because you're an adult with responsibilities...I have to pick and choose the games I can play considering I have a full time job, a house, a wife and an infant. Time is precious.

In RPGs, grinding began as a way to control the difficulty level. A good RPG doesn't force you to grind, but if you're finding things too difficult, you can grind for a bit to lower the challenge.

If grinding is too tedious, it's probably because the difficulty curve is broken.

if they make grinding a same chore, then I hate it, but if the grinding process is varied, then it is ok. I mean grinding by playing the same mode over and over again to get the credits/in game money is bad. But grinding by means of different ways (looting, selling craft/gears, etc) to earn the in game credits is always rewarding.

Why im done with grinding, why i cancelled my xbox one x order, moan, moan, moan. Gamers = A bunch of self righteous, over entitled, over opinionated Fascists.
