I don't think they did. Games are subjective, but PS4 had more, and PS4 probably has more global sales, despite being 4 years old.

Well that wasn't proved to me this past weekend in my area.This Black Friday while I went shopping those 3 days the most bought console I saw folks grabbing was the PS4 slim then the XBOS,I saw very little folks buying a Switch.

Both had amazing games this year. Imagine how 2018 will be with the lineup it has...

All they did was release new hardware, then come out with the same games, which is hard to mess that up... unfortunately not every franchise gets the same sweet treatment as Mario. When phones get stronger tech, or perhaps not even, the Switch will go into the top shelf of closets just like the Wii, this is why the WiiU was an embarrassment that Nintendo tried to make you forget, fads don't build a strong following.

Ha! that's a good one. Nintendo didn't steal anything from Sony. Sony has 2017 & 2018 locked down with games and hardware. The PS4 is selling amazingly well and the exclusives are coming left and right. Nintendo came behind in second place since MS is no competition.

Sony's sales are still logically and deservedly high, and will continue to stay that way unless something drastic and unforeseen happens.

It's just that Nintendo got their groove back and have reminded people that they're still players in this game.

Nintendo has not only brought amazing first party stuff almost every single month of the Switch's existence so far, they've also pulled in third parties that weren't there for the past two gens of Nintendo systems.

Also, to the people claiming that people are only buying it for Nintendo games, that's false; indies have seen massive success on the Switch, with most owners having between 3 to 5 games, and growing, from indies right from their first month or two of purchasing the system, and when you include stuff like Skyrim and Doom seeing unexpectedly strong sales on Switch, it has quickly become apparent that Switch isn't just another Nintendo machine.

It's on track to match the month-on-month sales figures of the Wii, by the Switch's 10th month on the market.
You don't get those kinds of sales through just luck or first party fans alone.

2017 was definitely a Dark Horse year for Nintendo, and they've pulled farther ahead of expectations than anyone could have imagined.

If they can keep their heads in the game in 2018 with a steady flow of releases, and they don't mess up their online offerings, they'll be in a good position to rival month-to-month sales figures of even the PS4.
Actually, IIRC, a few recent reports showed them doing exactly that in some places, Japan most notably and even in some places outside of it.

That's not to say that the PS4 is suddenly doing bad; it's just that the Switch is showing itself to be admirable competition for the wallets of gamers.

Switch had much better games. Less microtransactions, loot boxes and less problems with their games. Now 2018 will be much closer if Sony can make their dates and Nintendo too.

Sony has had 2013-2016 and looks to have the best lineup for 2018 so losing one year won't be a huge burden. Playstation and Sony are still showing huge profits so I wouldn't even consider it losing.

Amazing machine. Was on the fence at first. My PS4 has had much less time spent on it with Zelda, Mario Kart, and Odyssey as well as the indie stuff I can take away with me. I used to take my PS4 away on longer business trips but not any more.

I notice that people who write articles like this like to use hyperbole quite a bit. People say that n4g is a sony fanboy haven, but man there sure are a lot of articles like this, and a lot of commenters that like to act like Sony is always a step behind their favorite toy.

I'm in no rush to get a switch. Better to wait until Nintendo releases their next console and buy last gen. Nintendo always lacks in the games department. After their excellent first party games there usually isn't much left. The great thing about nintendo games is that they hardly ever feel dated. You can jump right back in something from ten years ago and have a great time playing. Sony still wins it for me not that it matters. If console makers win, we the gamers win too!

By killing a console before the end of it's life cycle and delaying the big games that were supposed to come to the Wii u so they could launch on the switch. Also, anything Zelda or Mario is going to have massive fan fare.

PS4 have been out for more than 4 years whereas the Switch is considered a new console. When you have a new console, you have hype and new exclusives to push the sale of new consoles. Gamers will likely flock to new technology and this is what is happening.
A Better comparison is comparing PS4 year 1 to Switch year 1 or wait 4 years to see where the switch is comparison to the PS4 in the same period.

PS4 is at a great price point right now with sales so i am not surprised. Cheaper deals always thrive on Black Friday. The switch will likely have its best Black Friday 2 years from now as well. Both consoles are doing fantastic to be honest. The race is silly. People act like these sales reflect first party when most people who buy ps4 do it for cod and madden and FIFA.

I'd say that a new hardware with great games (NS and its games) gave good results. But i wouldn't say "stole from Sony", because i see many positive things about Sony too, form games to sales. I'd say it was a very good debut, that yes. And we have to see at the end of 2017 if Nintendo really stole it.

Nintendo had two 10's, but that can't compete with Sony, let alone steal the year. Nintendo did well, but that's a pretty big reach.

Nintendo had these games lined up because they were Wii U games, and they didn't want to send them out to die. BOTW was a Wii U game, and Mario Odyssey started as a Wii U game. Nintendo has done a great job staggering releases, and porting those games fast.

Nintendo didbt steal anything , they had a couple good games but Sony has killed it this year andnedt year too. Its clearly Sony in 1st Nintendo in 2nd and Xbox at the bottom of the barrel. I love my Switch but it doesnt get as much 3rd party support and hasnt hit its stride in 1st party yet. Since it will always lack high end 3rd party it will stay in 2nd place but its not a bad place to be because it can coexist nicely with PlayStation.

I wouldn't say Nintendo stole the show from Sony, who has shone throughout the entire year. However, they deserve some props for the best comeback. Nintendo was like an old friend with declining health, and now they're back and better than ever. I still think Sony won 2017 overall, but I think old Ninty managed to top MS at least.

Interesting considering the fact that despite Switch launching in 2017 and the Xbox One X launching in November, Sony had the best Black Friday in the history of the brand. Nintendo and Microsoft has slowed PS4 down not one bit. If anything, it's getting more successful than ever before.

This news made by Casuals talking about videogaming is sad. It didnt steal nothing. Sales wise and games wise is one of the biggest year for sony. That got the best from two worlds. Exclusives and 3rd party. The switch is very cool because its portabl, but it can never be the only console you got.

Nintendo obviously have the successful launch of new hardware but Sony still had the better overall year with alot more games.

This was a winning year for Nintendo, to be sure, but Sony hasn't been affected. If anything, this has been a premier year for Sony's exclusives. The Switch, like previous Nintendo systems, has a special niche without dipping into the other big three's pond. Unlike the Wii-U, though, the Switch has a clearer plan and identity.

Wuchang is great. Nine Sols didn’t have a physical copy so I never played it but I’ve heard good things so I will check it out. I stopped playing sports games many years ago when before the card dlc’s or whatever they’re called.
