Could VR on the Nintendo Switch Really Work?

— Nintendo Enthusiast:

Virtual reality has been the ‘future of gaming’ for several years now. The tech has slowly but surely been getting better but is still a very niche sector of the market. If there’s one company that could really push it to the mainstream, it’s Nintendo. One of the biggest rumors surrounding the Switch before release was that it would support VR. What if Nintendo really did bring the tech to the Switch: could it work?

Probably not the same way other VR headsets do, and honestly, I'd prefer that Nintendo just stick to what they do best instead of focusing on VR, which at this point has not convinced me that it's anything more than an expensive-to-dev-for fad.

And before anyone says it, no, I wouldn't want to play BotW or any other Nintendo game in VR at the moment.
I'm just not impressed, and I've tried VR before.

I don't think so unless the games are super basic.

Not in its current form. The internals of the system are not enough for VR.

The next Switch yes , the current Switch no. We need a 1080p screen and more horsepower. Would work so well with the Joycon in theory and a headset that you clip the (next) Switch into.

It's possible but unlikely to happen anytime soon until more hardware is out on the market and a killer Nintendo game to go with it. The games would just have to utilize the split screen and have simpler graphics. Immersion doesn't just come from highly detailed VR games. It comes from the interactivity. And the controllers seem already built to support it if necessary.

Since Nintendo is known for making basic looking games that are still amazingly fun and complex to play, they could pull it off if they wanted to. There just has to be a market interested in it to buy.
