Bungie Changes XP In Destiny 2

Bungie:

We’ve seen community discussion around XP gain in Destiny. After reviewing our data, we agree that the system is not performing the way we’d like it to. Today, we’d like to describe what’s going on under the hood, and talk about what you can expect going forward when it comes to earning XP in Destiny 2.

Currently, XP will scale up when playing longer or fixed duration activities like Crucible competitive multiplayer matches and the Leviathan Raid, and XP will scale down when playing activities that can be quickly, repeatedly chained, like grinding Public Events. We are not happy with the results, and we’ve heard the same from the community.

Effective immediately, we are deactivating this system.

Good boy my ass these big developers doing shady shit is gonna causes another Video Game crash

sloth33953090d ago

there is Nintendo so they will save the crash again since they are not doing that stuff

Palitera3090d ago

But but but... Microtransactions doesn't affect who doesn't purchase it.

joab7773090d ago

It was a community that discovered it. Hats off to those that did the work. Because they weren’t gonna say anything otherwise. Now they are in panic mode with dlc releasing in a couple weeks. I guess this is another reason to keep season passes around because many ppl already bought the dlc.

TheColbertinator3090d ago

Bungie has fallen so low. DICE too. Also Respawn is going nowhere interesting. Great developers who too quickly bend the knee to their money masters.

Tru_Blu3090d ago

We need a Jon Snow of developers.

Bahamut3090d ago

He did eventually bend the knee though... I mean... TECHNICALLY

DialgaMarine3090d ago

I can’t figure out why anyone cares? The XP only goes to bright engrams, and all that is purely cosmetic. The only slightly cool things you can get out of them are new paint jobs for some exotics. That’s it. People want to get butthurt and trash Bungie, even though they’ve been the most fair when it comes to microtransactions, and I can tell by the comments here that most of those people haven’t even played the game. Get over it.

Bahamut3090d ago

Most fair? How about don't include them at all? That's the only fair option. Anything else is money-milking bullshit.

DialgaMarine3090d ago (Edited 3090d ago )

And you don’t have to buy them. I have a light level 305 (current max) Titan, and I haven’t spent a dime on silver in the game. All the microtransactions have zero effect on gameplay, and it can all be earned through bright engrams; if you don’t have patience, that’s what the MT’s are for, but only an idiot would actually do it.

Mikelarry3090d ago (Edited 3090d ago )

Overcharges for DLC but calls it expansion
Botches XP so that users are more inclined to buy micro-transaction
Charges $60 for an expansion and calls it " Destiny 2"
Removes shaders and turns them into micro-transaction one time use items
Removed every improvement that DLC fixed in the first game so that they can reintroduce them as fixes and DLC in destiny 2

But please do tell us once again how they are very fair when it comes to micro-transaction

DialgaMarine3090d ago

You clearly haven’t played it. I’ve yet to buy a single microtransaction and I’ve got so many shaders, I’m constantly having to dismantle them to make room for more. Once again, those microtransactions are strictly cosmetic, ie stuff that doesn’t affect gameplay. All weapons and armor have to be earned through gameplay; there’s no other way of getting them. Calling D2 a $60 expansion is literally no different than saying every Halo that features Master Chief is an overpriced expansion to Halo 1. Yes, Bungie’s system is very fair.

CorndogBurglar3090d ago (Edited 3090d ago )

1. DLC for Destiny 1 & 2 are no more expensive than any other game and actually offer MORE than most. New weapons and armor. New MP levels. New story content. New Strikes and a Raid. Raises level cap. Most other games only offer a map pack with 3-5 MP maps and a couple new guns. So I wouldn't call it overpriced at all.

2. Charges $60 for an expansion? Thats interesting. I haven't been able to find ANY of the content from Destiny 1 in Destiny 2. None of the story. None of the maps. None of the same planets. None of the same exotics (except for 2 which have been changed a bit). Its all new. The only thing is the graphics aren't much better, and there are very few new enemies. But that hardly constitutes a game being called an expansion. Not when the game launched with far more content and everything is new.

3. Shaders are now one-time use. That is true and it sucks. However, after a week or so of playing you have more shaders than you know what to do with and it is a non-issue. Also, most shaders can't be collected through MT's. Only certain ones that you find on the regular through normal gameplay anyway.

4. All MT's are for useless cosmetic stuff that you will most certainly get through normal play. All this talk about XP scaling has little to no effect. I only play on Friday and Saturday nights for about 3-4 hours and I earn 2-3 bright engrams each time. You can then dismantle items you dont want for Bright Dust and use it as in-game currency.

There is nothing wrong with what Destiny 2 does as far as MT's or DLC. You aren't forced into any of it. In fact you WILL get it all over time without spending a dime. If MT's must exist, and lets face it, they aren't going away, then Destiny does it the best way possible. Nothing is locked behind a paywall and nothing is locked behind an impossible progression system.

Mikelarry3090d ago

@ Cordogburlar please please dont do this

the DLC offer more than any other game..... REALLY Witcher 3 says HI, also just because you are starting from point B back to A does not make an area new

2: the enemies you fight are the same, VEX, taken, Cabal, fallen etc
3: why remove something you offered freely in the first game to now charge for them are you guys really going to try and spin this as some sort of positive
4: if they are so useless why include them, let me guess to offer players " pride and accomplishment" ( i know its not a qoute used by them but

there is something wrong with Destiny 2 MTx, it removed things that were in the first game and is now trying to charge players.

Damthatsword3090d ago

Youre so self convincing it almost hurts.

DialgaMarine3090d ago (Edited 3090d ago )

Nah. I just tell the truth, and it upsets the hipster snowflakes who are just hating on something because they think everyone else is doing it.

Mikelarry3090d ago

and this is why I know you are just a fanboy, the halo series had a satisfying story with a beginning middle and end something destiny does not have.destiny wishes its story to be something like halo which is strange because it was created by the same company.

So micro transaction are cosmetic how does that counter any of my original points, not once did i mention that micro transaction were not cosmetic

its not just me calling D2 and expansion or destiny 1.5, the drop off of players proves this

Bungie is not fair again take a look at their reddit and forums

I never claimed to have played destiny 2 no way am i paying for that dumpster fire that preys on addicts, I played destiny 1 to see what they were up to and I am glad I did seeing what sort of anti consumer BS they have been doing but hey at least they got you. enjoy your game

Mikelarry3090d ago (Edited 3090d ago )

and I rest my CASE

Bungie has now increased the XP required to level up in destiny 2. oooh but Bungie is fair and ppl just wanna hate

https://www.reddit.com/r/De...

HyperMouse3090d ago (Edited 3090d ago )

Yes but we like bright engrams, and increasing the grind on a game thats all about grind is what bird person would say is..."a dick move"

Jinger3090d ago (Edited 3090d ago )

Actually the reason that the player base is leaving is because they made the grind too easy. You can get to 305 without effort, you get exotics like they are legendaries and there is no reason to continue playing other than getting bright engrams... and that's about it.

They also ruined the grind by making all armor and weapon drops exactly the same. No more grinding to get a better stat roll for your favorite weapon.

Edit: the player base leaving has nothing to do with the XP earned (because it's easy), MT's, or game quality. They are leaving because they ruined the end game grind.

irishyort3089d ago

I grind and the bright engram stuff is utterly useless to me. I see no reason for all the BS shaders and all the other stuff it drops off. I know a lot of people do, but I feel like its poorly implemented so im not fussed if I get it or not. The XP at the moment is meaningless and I have more shaders than I know what to do with. Its ridiculous!

rezzah3090d ago

If deception is added in one part and no one complains, then why not add it somewhere else too?

Deviant behavior grows if nothing is done to prevent it.

irishyort3089d ago (Edited 3089d ago )

Bright engrams are a waste of time for 50% of the players surely, and should be only for people that want to do that stuff. I like the emotes and all, but am happy not to have ships, pretty useless armour sets and exotic gun shaders and then a gazillion shaders that I cant manage and delete thank you very much. This XP stuff is for other games that use this model for something important like getting a gun that unlocks at a certain level at their vendor. Unless you are going to have XP mean you can get gear from vendors that actually is something people want to grind for, don't have it in the game. Why cant we earn XP for guns and armour sets and make it hard to get the good ones so we all have something to strive and grind for while waiting for new DLC.

maybelovehate3089d ago

True, when I read about it I just said.. meh. It is a bit evil though, hence the very fast response to fix

irishyort3089d ago

Great, to top it all off, fixed a problem by creating a bigger one... now I have more useless bright engrams that I dont want to cash in for useless rewards that have little to no value. Please give me a bright engram delete option and I will be all set. Cheers Bungie. If the XP counted towards earning say for example 1,000,000 XP = D2 version of a Gjallarhorn, let me grind that out, but I'll be stuffed if I'm using these bright engrams for another frikken pink shader

Honestly Thank Goodness!! Yet another good sign of a possibility of returning to what made them great and undoing Jim Tyans trend chasing love service gamble. Still gotta wait and see just what direction they're going but this is a good sign in my book that they're not betting it all on live service anymore

S2Killinit95d ago (Edited 95d ago )

Not sure what you lot are talking about anymore. They need to cover all range of games. Im primarily a single player gamer, but even I cannot be daft enough to ignore the fact that we need all manner of games including live service games. Everyone here seems to be a market expert.

isarai_lee95d ago (Edited 95d ago )

Yes "all manner" not just exclusively live service like Jim was doing, but you also shouldn't be forcing devs to make games they not only have no experience making, but also flatout dont want to do.

S2Killinit95d ago

Assuming that anything like that is actually the case and not just a perception of n4g commenters of course.

Redemption-6495d ago

@isarai_lee
Yes "all manner" not just exclusively live service like Jim was doing.

I don't understand why you people have to keep making up lies. You can say you don't like some or most of their focus being on live service games, but to say they were exclusively focusing on live service games is pure copium. At most half of their games were live service and the rest were single player games. Seriously why lie about something so obvious?

isarai_lee95d ago

@Redemption-64

You say that as if we don't have word directly from Jim Ryan and PlayStation stating they wanted at least 12 live service games released within a year. Followed by tons of official word of those Live Service games being cancelled after he was pushed out. All studios combined at the time PS had 15 studios, 12 is a hell of a lot more than half of 15, and it was definitely their primary focus evident by the fact that a huge portion of their studios have taken uncharacteristically long to release or announce anything since, hell some studios have yet to release anything this gen almost 6 YEARS LATER! The only one making stuff up is you.

It may take a while but maybe they are finally learning. Good! Now stop with the live service crap.

ABizzel196d ago

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with a live service here or there, but to have many of your studios start focusing on it when there has been little to no experience among them was wild.

Christopher96d ago (Edited 96d ago )

They say this and then immediately release news of the Horizons co-op game that will definitely be a Live Service game.

isarai_lee95d ago

I feel like they knew that given the fact that the very furst thing they say in the trailer is to reassure they still make so games 😆

isarai_lee95d ago

vTuro2496d ago

Bet they're regrettings spending those billions pretty hard right now.

S2Killinit95d ago

Destiny has been a huge success.

Redemption-6495d ago

They will not. Destiny has been popular for over 10 years, something most games can never hope to achieve. Most people, including myself those Bungie was going to make a D3 after the final shape DLC. Marathon looks to be a hit and a D3 announcement could break records.
