Bethesda’s long awaited audio patch for DOOM has finally arrived on Nintendo Switch. However, it seems that the patch has caused more problems.

I think Doom (2016)’s audio in general is not very good. I played through the game on PS4, and there were plenty of sound mixing, directional audio issues plus many weak sound effects. I am not sure how the game won awards for sound design over Battlefield 1 last year.

Maybe gamers were just looking for something different in their shooters outside of BF and CoD at the time?
That's the only real reason I can think of... Well, aside from maybe some dormant DOOM fans from back in the old days coming out of hiding to support the franchise after years of abscence...

Still, I hope they get these issues ironed out in a jiffy. It would be nice if it was not in need of any further patches, by the time I've got the funds to grab a copy.XD

Yet it's metacritic score is higher than the console versions for some mysterious reason.

Araragifeels 3020d ago

Very suspicious! Not to make people mad but a downgraded version with less features and still have issues from other console, get a higher score is just strange. Plus Portable mode can't give that much point for the score.

badz1493020d ago (Edited 3020d ago )

that's how high these reviewers are riding Nintendo's dong!

seriously, almost every Switch port now is reviewed with "while the performance is not as great and big compromises has been made to the Switch version, it's ok because it's portable!" WTF kinda rationalization is THAT?

deafdani3020d ago

Switch version is rated lower, and rightly so. You would know if you actually checked instead of believing the words of some random dude in the internet.

Sirk7x3020d ago (Edited 3020d ago )

Doom has been patched alot since it first released. It's on version 6.66 now, which was a huge patch. It gave all the multiplayer DLC for free, new maps, new progression system, rune system, etc. Despite the lower performance (which is a given, considering it's running on a mobile chip, which is still very impressive), it's still a better game than it was at its launch.
This also shows a major problem with game reviews. Unless critics are willing to go back and re-review a game months after its release (which they won't; As a business it makes more sense to be following the newest and biggest), the score is going to be reflective of a different game if it ends up being patched significantly.

Very suspicious and not surprising considering how easily bought the media is in gaming.

Basically it has all these issues , worse frame rate ,worse resolution, missing features and yet people are still trying to pretend it's even better version? 😂😂😂 Wow

All I got to say.

Prince_TFK3020d ago

Nintendo buys all the media in gaming? Wow, they must be even richer than Bill Gates.

deafdani3019d ago

Hey bro.

Doom Switch is rated lower than the other versions at Metacritic. Check the site.

It's sad how easily so many people believe the words of some random Joe on the internet without any proof. Especially something so easy to check out for yourself.

wonderfulmonkeyman3020d ago

It's not being rated higher because it's better than other versions in various categories, like framerate or resolution.

We all know by now that the Switch is a weaker system graphically.

It's being rated higher due to the accomplishment of fitting something that high-maintenance into a system that small.

Prince_TFK3020d ago (Edited 3020d ago )

Plus, it comes in full package (all maps, additonal modes, new progression..) plus some additional goodies. But hey, this is N4G. Better to say that Nintendo had bought all the gaming media in the world.

deafdani3019d ago

It isn't even true anyway. Switch version IS rated lower than all the other versions, in fact. You can check it on Metacritic.

But hey, somebody said otherwise on the internet, so it must be true!

deafdani3020d ago (Edited 3020d ago )

Stop bullshitting, dude.

Switch 79
PS4 85
PC 85
Xbox One 87

Those are the scores at Metacritic right now. Why people are upvoting your lie, I don't know.

Prince_TFK3020d ago (Edited 3020d ago )

Holy shit you are right dude. I didn’t even checked Metacritc for the score.

Lmao. You caught him with his pants down. Where are you Edmix dude? We need your “professional” opinion on this lie.

Doom audio is great. Especially with the thrustmaster Y-300. Fighting the Cyber Demon Boss sounded Legendary.

wonderfulmonkeyman3020d ago (Edited 3020d ago )

Wow, so the moment a formerly-popular multiplat gets a good score on Switch, suddenly it can't be a legitimate score as far as N4G is concerned.

Oh no, it's gotta be BIAS and BOUGHT REVIEWS at work, even from publications other than Nintendo-related ones that normally don't give many good reviews to a lot of multiplats on Nintendo consoles./s

I'm betting most of the complainers didn't even remember DOOM EXISTED, until the Switch version became popular enough to give them a reason to rage at reviewers and Nintendo fans.

If it bothers you all so much, GO PLAY THE OTHER VERSIONS.
Quit coming into the Nintendo sections just to get all offended about the score. It doesn't change that the versions elsewhere are better on many technical levels.
Be content with that and go play the version you all like, like an adult gamer would, instead of wasting everyone's time coming up in here with all of that SALT.

"Obviously the environment down here is all salt.
The ceiling's salt, the floor's salt, the walls are salt, and to an extent the air is salt.
And you breath that in, and you can constantly taste the salt."

UltimateOwnage3019d ago

In an update to the article it says that if you power off and power on the system after installing the patch the issues are resolved after that. I so far haven't seen any, so I'm not sure if this is a widespread problem or not. I'm running on version 1.1.

Simon's Quest is better than Symphony.

Levii_92296d ago

Hot damn that's a good list. The only one i never played is AOE2 and i never finshed Chrono Trigger but it was damn good.

Speaking of what's old but holds up amazingly well and plays like a dream.. i played Symphony of the Night for the first time in 2019.. yep that's right. It became one of my favourite games of all time that i replay almost every year. I couldn't believe how good it was. That is almost impossible for me with newer games let alone older ones. Truly a special gem.

LG_Fox_Brazil295d ago

That's a pretty fucking great list

__y2jb295d ago (Edited 295d ago )

The only one I’d disagree with is doom. It shows its age badly I think. After 5 minutes of play these days you put it down.

After watching Scavengers Reign? The answer is unequivocally yes. I really want something out of left field but I think people are too afraid to shake things up.

It's what I love about Shadowrun and Black Mirror. Love, Death, and Robots proved that there's an audience for stuff that doesn't fit the mold.

Gamingsince1981384d ago

Weird games in general we don't get enough of, we need more games like Katamari and Mr domino, things like that
