Extortion definition from Wikipedia:

"Extortion (also called shakedown, outwrestling and exaction) is a criminal offense of obtaining money, property, or services from an individual or institution, through coercion... Extortion is commonly practiced by organized crime groups... Exaction refers not only to extortion or the demanding and obtaining of something through force, but additionally, in its formal definition, means the infliction of something such as pain and suffering or making somebody endure something unpleasant."

So EA asks for your money to unlock content in a game you already payed them in the first place. If you don't comply they will make you waste a ton of your time to unlock such content (endure something unpleasant). This is intentionally designed to make people impatient and opt to use their wallets to continue playing the game.

What EA is doing with MT's/loot boxes in SW Battlefront II is, by the above definition, a form of extortion.
If some of you still think this is OK and are willing to buy the game, then you need to know that YOU are the problem. EA will never change as long as YOU keep buying their games.

It's not just EA. It's Microsoft, Take Two, 2K, Activision, Warner Bros. They are all pushing games as a service and this is what the future holds if idiots keep giving them unrestricted access to the contents of their bank accounts.

Stop pre-ordering, giving these guys money before you know what you're getting on day one. Stop buying digital so you can't get refunds from online stores, and for god sake, don't buy their games or consoles until they learn.

The only recent EA game I have purchased over the years is Battlefield 1. All their other games has not been that good lately.

I think it will continue for quite some time. It's not like gamers have a higher IQ than other layers of society.

So the only EA game in my house is Sims 4. My wife bought it for my daughter.

Daughter kept asking mom if she could buy this DLC, expansion pack etc not knowing what she spent.

I'm pretty sure I've paid at least 300 dollars for this one game.

Fuck you EA. I stopped buying Madden long ago after figuring out it was just a roster update I could have downloaded.

Tell me again how the multiplatform strategy was supposed to fix everything. Look at your results and compare them to Nintendo, which keeps thriving with exclusives. Your loyal fans are gone. And let’s not forget the pile of IPs you purchased only to let them rot.

The worst thing is this is down from last years numbers/expectations which was down from the previous years numbers/expectations. You think about how long “down” has been a consistent part of the communication and you realize those subscriptions are what’s holding that boat together. The price cut of gamespass is still a price raise in a string of price raises. They are trying to use players to offset the missing revenue. Now call of duty is out of gamespass, which is literally WHY they bought the company. To draw people to the subscription. They realized they missed a boatload of money and that wasn’t sustainable. Now you pay for it like you would have if they never bought the company… so why buy the company? Mind you those billions still need to be paid back. Yeah it gives you a chance to say we make the biggest FPS… but the internal conversations must be brutal at high level on topics that really matter. Like revenue. Profitability. And ROI for the shopping spree.
