I dunno, songs can help, books can help, movies can help...why not games ? If You are in the pit, sometimes one simple thing can make You see the light and hope again. One single sentence, or one story twist that strikes the right chords...

If you have depression, anxiety and suicidal toughts than plese go and seek professional help and start learning about these conditions as much as possible. Explore the underlying issues in your subconcious that could cause these feelings with the guidence of a professional. Don't just mindlessly take SSRIs (as these are just temporary solutions, sometimes don't even help and could make the problem worst let alone the dlfact they can destroy your liver and kidneys.) and the like. Get tested for thyroid issues, gut issues, glucose sensitivity and if you have silver fillings, have those changed to whiet fillings. These are just a few things you can do. Video games are just an escape not a cure.

The Splatoon series did the same for me.

If you are claiming a video game saved you from depression / suicide....likely you are not saved and still going to be in a bad way in the future until you get help properly dealing with your issues. This game likely just side tracked you from those thoughts for a bit.

I had this happen to me with The Talos Principle. i was struggling with depression and with my religious faith, but that game brought tears to my eyes with its spiritual themes and emotions.

If Zelda inspires you to keep living, you have no business living. Be a man and do the world a favor.

I wish I could play the game. The items breaking ruins it for me. A simple patch for an item to fix it could save the game for me.

Gaming definitely helps a lot when you are in a deep dark mindset, but you can't rely just on gaming to help you through it. Go get professional help. Gaming along with other things can really help the way you feel but talking to a professional REALLY helps and I should know because I'm in the same situation and I'm finally getting better.

If you're depressed and feel like suicide, try helping others for a change, be a positive influence on someone else. Games can be helpful, but there's no reason to feel the want to kill yourself, it's not worth it and it makes matters worst.

I definitely can see gaming as therapeutic and this story is a perfect example. I've had a similar experience, my best friend someone I had. A bond with since 1st grade committed suicide and just like this story I can honestly say gaming helped me through that event. The game in choice was Minecraft, I had never gotten into it and when I saw it was in the PS4 I just decided to jump into it. I can honestly say I've never had such an emotional experience with a game, I imagined I was him in another world that world being minecraft. I remember having so many close calls of dying and being afraid to as the character was in part my best friend. When it finally did happen, which was so many hours later I understood it was time to understand it's just apart of life and picking up my lost materials was me picking up my broken pieces. Thank you mincecraft

I think the point that some are missing is that the game gave him a worthwhile distraction from the darkness - some sense of purpose, something to look forward to.

Zelda alone didn’t get him through this Major Depressive Episode, but it was an important factor that helped him have the strength to follow through with the other essential aspects of treatment.

Anyone who thinks they have one single answer on how to cure depression should be making millions curing everyone. What are you doing here? Everybody is different and what works for some may not work for others. To any computer tough guy who thinks its funny to tell someone to go kill themselves or calls him a whiner. should be locked up and evaluated. How could you be so heartless?

I hear you. Gaming has helped me through a 2 year depression. I needed to remember happier times and Nintendo was a big part of that nostaglia trip

Dealing with depressions means dealing with it 1 day at a time. When you spend those days with things that you actually find enjoyment from (which is actually a very uncommon feeling when you're suffering from depression, weird even), of course that will help.

I think games in general can temporarily help with depression and anxiety because it takes your focus elsewhere and gives you that much needed relief that your mind needs. If anyone is suffering, know that your not alone even though you feel like it and hang in there. There's always light at the end of the tunnel.

I agree with this in every possible way and think that the right type of gaming could be VERY therapeutic to someone. This is an amazing thing and needs to be in front of the "video games made me kill my..." bullshit. Glad to hear this saved him, video games save me too, not from suicide, but from life.
