Iron Man blasts out on Blu-ray

Iron Man is enjoying superhero Blu-ray Disc strength, tracking as the top format debut to date at Best Buy and other retailers.

An average of about 20% of Iron Man's total unit sales are on Blu-ray, according to retail sources, though in some instances, its share goes as high as 50%. By comparison, the Blu-ray portion for many recent popular titles, including I Am Legend, logged about 9% of sales in the format, according to Adams Media Research.

One industry source said Iron Man Blu-ray sales range from 10% to 30% of the title's total sales, varying by retailer. In some isolated cases, including at retailers Amazon.com and DeepDiscount.com, Iron Man's Blu-ray version is selling more briskly than one or more of the film's standard DVD SKUs.

Just wait until Batman. Now I wish i knew something. How many digital downloads of this movie have been downloaded compared to this? Maybe 10% of what the BR version did?

Some 'news' post about how blu-ray is about to die in 3...2...1...

In all fairness, there are many, many more Sony fanboys on this site than anything else.

I don't think Blu-Ray is going anywhere but up. But that doesn't blind me from the fact that there is a butt-load of Sony fanboys with blind statements on here.

BlackTar1876447d ago

But is there any truth to maybe the said product is now being viewed higher so what you call "Fanboys" and there are more here etc. can it in someway be attributed to maybe a better product. i dont like to get into these conversations but when the # of X fanboys goes down while Y is going up is it based on nothing ? is it possible maybe one is a better product better support etc(All open for opinion)Pleas people this is just a open statement dont attack me Im not backing this im giving a reason and if you would like to talk about please do.

sonarus6446d ago

I hope it doesn't blind youy that there is truck load of 360 fanboys as well

Xelai6446d ago

Each site has momentum one way or the other, quality has nothing to do, fanboyism does not consider those subtleties.

About the film, awesome, but saw it in a 37 incher and sincerely difference was not so appealing as when I saaw it in a 60 incher, obviously, I know, but just pointing it out to devote believers.

Another bad point is that my standalone player gets nuts with the movie, it makes it crash if you do not do things slowly and carefully, I will update the firmware...

Either way nice to see strong sales.

"Be creative 99% of the time" – Glen Schofield on how creativity can help fix AAA industry woes

The Callisto Protocol director thinks the solution involves the right people, the right timing, and perhaps a little bit of AI

I don't agree with that. I WISH I could agree with that. But buying habits and customer opinions prove otherwise

We've seen developers in the AAA space try new things and ideas. More often than not, the customers aren't willing to give things a chance, or not enough people buy into the project for it to grow.

Creativity works better in the indie space because the budgets, pressures, and expectations aren't the same.

Scissorman46d ago

it's a nice idea and it worked during the PS2/PS3-era when AAA didn't cost hundreds of millions of dollars. smaller budgets and shorter development time left room for more creativity and more risk. a game didn't need to sell 4 million+ copies to break even. things are different now.

This is the guy who bragged about crunching his staff and having them work through the night. Crunch culture has lost more talent and done more damage to the industry than any other factor. Screw him.
