ELEX Review - IGN

IGN: "ELEX has enough good ideas to be a great RPG in a year or two, but bugs and bad balance make it hard to recommend now."

That's too bad, The story and setting seem really interesting. Hopefully they patch the game up over the months and I'll give it a shot.

Interloper3124d ago

If you knew the developer of this game, then you would already know what to expect. This is a 30 person team responsible for such games like Risen and Gothic series. So basically, if you liked those games despite their flaws, then you'll like this game.

Krysis3124d ago

It's doesn't excuse them for releasing games in this state. If they ever want to be considered top tier then they have to work on the quality of their presentation.

Segata3124d ago

From what I understand it's not a good studio to work for.

Krysis3124d ago

@segata that's interesting, I've never heard that but it would explain the state of their releases. Poor moral = poor products.

thekhurg3123d ago

You haven't play this game, correct?

xenz3124d ago (Edited 3124d ago )

First off, Gothic was released 20 years ago and the third installment was almost unplayable at launch.

Second, Risen is a very bad series. It started OK with Risen 1, but the last two entries were atrocious.

Elex looks like to be no different. It has leaps and bounds of technical issues and a poor combat system. Only good thing seems to be the world and story, but everything else is boring, repetetive and broken af.

Interloper3123d ago

Maybe we're not playing the same game... I'm enjoying it, but then maybe my standards are far less hoity toity.

TejasTV3121d ago

You haven’t played it.

Krysis3124d ago

That review doesn't make this one irrelevant. Ign has had some weird scores over the years but his points seem valid.

Ashunderfire863124d ago

From the previews I knew it was going to get a bad score. Just look how wonky the enemies and friendly A.i move. Look to have. A great story and voice acting, but poor execution!

Elex 2 Is The Biggest Game We Ever Made. Interview With Piranha Bytes

There's quite a treat coming for fans of Gothic and games by the Piranhas - Elex 2 - the sequel to the studio's latest IP. We've asked two of the devs, Bjorn and Jenny Pankratz of Piranha Bytes, about what it was like to develop a game like this.

I'd love to see them prioritize quality over quantity for once. The jank in their games is pretty severe.

BLUEKNIFE1611d ago

I started playing Elex 1 recently and I am loving it. Really looking forward playing the sequel next year

Review: How close does Elex come to Gothic? - Gamer Of Passion

I liked the Risen series, but ELEX was easily their best game since Gothic 2, and definitely gave me similar vibes.

Kazuiii2032d ago

Agreed. I was a bit sad that it didnt quite reach the Gothic 2 levels, but it was definitely refreshing to play after a almost a decade of Risen

SpadeX2030d ago

Risen 1 is my favorite game from them. It was such a stellar sleeper hit.

MadLad2030d ago

I liked the original Risen, but the last 3rd fell flat for me.

Kazuiii2030d ago

Risen definitely deserves its own mention but every game after Gothic 2 is just an attempt at "recreating" it imo

Mithan2030d ago

Risen 1 was awesome, despite being a bit of a broken game. I never played Elex, maybe I will pick it up at some point.

Rumor is they are working on a new Gothic game.

diepdiep2030d ago

The Gothic remake is by THQ. They released a prototype on steam for those that own any piranha bytes games in their library. Piranha Bytes haven’t revealed their new game, but people think it’ll be Elex 2.

Kazuiii2030d ago

Piranha Bytes is always very active in their social media (Youtube, Twitter, Facebook), altough on their Youtube-Channel they talk in German (with English Subs). They have been "hit" by the pandemic, saying that their production got slowed down (which is ok imo). They also say that there is a lot of content already but they are waiting for the "right moment" to announce it. I am super excited and think it might be Elex 2 but I am not super sure as they have been very "secretive" about it until now.

i wish them the best of luck reviving these dead brands with a different team :/ i can‘t see how something good can be produced under these circumstances.

SamPao2546d ago

They bought the studio though, so that means the same team.

King_Noctis2545d ago

THQ is quickly becoming a powerhouse. Now let take back that WWE license from Take Two.

Chexs19902545d ago

That was an, err, interesting choice?
Piranha is one those studios where you see the potential, then experience the reality

MadLad2545d ago

Big fan of PB's games. Not for everyone, but good RPGs.
Here's to hoping for a strong future.
