Marvel vs Capcom Infinite Review | TheXboxHub

Carlos Santuana writes: "2017 has already proven to be a fantastic year for fighting games, with spectacular outings for both the Tekken and Injustice franchises, whilst Mortal Kombat still holds a loyal fan base despite releasing a couple of years ago. But if you thought you’d seen everything 2017 has to offer in the fighting genre, then think again. Marvel vs Capcom may not have been in quite the same league as those aforementioned titles with its recent entries, but with a new release comes a fresh chance to battle with the best. But does Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite have what it takes to rank amongst the greats?"

Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 is still a better package

I couldn't disagree more with this review. There are few points that make me scratch my head a little because it seems that the reviewer didn't really spend time playing or just didn't get the hang on fighting games.

" With your health bar quickly diminishing in mere seconds should you be on the end of a lengthy one, and with no way to block a combo if the first hit makes contact, it can put an end to a fight rather quickly.". There is a mechanic on this game that if you hold forward and presses the button assigned to change character, you will spend 2 bars of the meter but your partner will be able to appear and interrupt the combo, that's a very powerful defensive move if used correctly.

"...in Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite, blocking feels more like a cowardly thing to do. This is due to the fact that you can only block if you’re moving away from your opponent and towards the far side of the screen. Not only does it feel cowardly, but it doesn’t help the flow of the fight at all.". This really seems like a joke, really. Maybe the reviewer only played Mortal Kombat or...I don't know. This point is just silly when blocking on most games works that way.

The story mode is also so bad. I think anyone that played already this game can confirm it. But what really surprises me is that this review doesn't mention how ugly the game is. The stares of the characters models look lifeless, the graphics in general looks way to blurry, and the lips of the characters doesn't match with the audio. That is a mess.

But in other hand, if something saves this game is the awesome gameplay. It's really fun and there are easy inputs (or combo assists) for newcomers that just want to play for fun without trying to dive too deep on the mechanics. But if your want it, there is a lot of material to learn and to master. But on this review, that is taken as a negative point and it really confuses me.

I know I know, opinions are subjective, but this person represents your site and it's clear that he doesn't know too much of fighting games (or that is the impression I get).

Thanks for your comment @FortyArcade, I appreciate your opinion however I have to disagree with some of them myself.

For me personally, a fighting game should force you to switch characters immediately just because you failed to get the first hit in just to avoid losing the entire health bar, and it's also worth noting that with some combo's that doesn't always work and instead you end up with both characters near defeated immediately, especially against those who have mastered specific characters online.

Also, I have played Mortal Kombat, Tekken, Street Fighter and Injustice, and for me the blocking in Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite is terrible. You should at least be able to stand still whilst blocking instead of being forced to move backwards all the time, and therefore moving away from the fight. For me that's a poor mechanic and no matter which games use that same mechanic, it doesn't mean I agree with any of them that do.

Also, I feel you may have failed to notice there is actually a proper story involved, unlike previous entries in the series, and it was more than enough to take me through to the end of the game as I enjoyed it. I can understand that you may not enjoy it as much, however friends of mine have also said they enjoyed the story so you're comment that "anyone that played this game can confirm it" is inaccurate. As for the graphics, they may be more cartoon-like in appearance when compared to Tekken, Injustice or MK, but they are hardly blurry, i'm not sure what TV set-up or PC set-up you are using to play, but this review was played on an Xbox One S and I had no issues with blur or audio not matching the characters at all. Not that I believe the console has anything to do with it.

And as for your opinion on the awesome gameplay, for me it really wasn't, the story was the only thing carrying me through to the end, and each fight felt overly repetitive and dull. Combo's are awkward, and as for combo assists for newcomers, they were removed from Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite to prevent endless combo's (despite there still being many seemingly endless combo's), so i'm unsure if you've been playing this game or believe this review to be about another in the series, however with no assists, mastering characters is the only option and is no longer a want but a must. Something not everyone wants to do or has the time to do.

As for how much I know about fighting games, like I said previously, I have played the majority of fighting games to release in the last ten years, I know my way around them and I feel Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite isn't up to standards. I appreciate your opinion but have to disagree with it entirely.
