Horizon Zero Dawn will only get one expansion

It was confirmed through the Guerilla Games’ Twitter account when conversing with a fan.

crazychris41243138d ago

Wouldn't make much sense if it did when the complete edition is being released in December

Pantz3137d ago

If only they had some shampoo dlc :(

subtenko3136d ago

Aloy got fine hair that doesnt even need shampoo, I find your comment offensive to my bae....

-Foxtrot3138d ago

Shame but understandable

***Spoilers***

I would have liked to seen a prequel DLC showing Rost's revenge when he became a Death Seeker and hunted down the 12 outlanders. Even a DLC with mixed in flashback segments showing Sobeck's journey back home where she died...just found it a little funny she managed to get all away home with the faro robot swarm destroying all organic material on the Earth, maybe she wasn't just a smart woman, maybe she had a little fight in her which would show what Aloy inherited off her. Be nice to see something poetic of something knowing they are going to die but still fights to stay alive until just long enough to make the trip back to her home.

Its critical success probably has GG reserving content and ideas for a sequel I imagine, instead of multiple expansions for HZD that might have shed insight into some of these characters back stories. I am however curious to know their target for release. Will it be 2020? Will they even bother with a PS4 release, or will it be a PS5 launch title? Maybe cross-gen?

SkippyPaccino3137d ago

I'm predicting a Horizon 2 will launch with the PS5

UltraNova3137d ago

I really want a Killzone 2 remaster and a full Killzone IP reboot first. Or even a brand new shooter IP from Guerilla now that they have acended to top tier level devs.

But man...i need that KZ2 remaster....

TheOttomatic913137d ago

@Foxtrot That hypothetical DLC your talking about would cost GG millions of dollars, something they would rather save for the 2nd game and also sometimes its better that we aren't shown everything

RememberThe3573136d ago

Odds are the expansion would make them money so im not sure your reasoning adds all the way up. But I think you're right that they want to move on to the sequel. Plus they still have KZ under wraps

andrewsquall3136d ago

SPOILERS too

Yes, I would have loved a DLC where you play as Elisabet Sobeck and you find out where she went after she sealed the bunker from the outside. I would love if she found out what that dick Ted Faro did to her friends that she sacrificed her life for and actually went after him for revenge before going to her final resting place at her home. :)

Maybe in the sequel we will get that though.

Eonjay3136d ago

****Spoilers****

So I am most interested in Ted Faro and the Swarm. They never really explained why the swarm went crazy, but Elizabeth insinuated that she knew what and would reveal it to the joint chiefs if he didn't comply with her plan. Then the way he killed the alphas, I just don't think the swarm was a 'mistake'. The man is a psychopath.

I'm kinda fine with this, obvious it be great if there was more dlc to come next year, after Frozen Wilds. I just hope there's enough content with this dlc to keep me busy for at least a week or 2.

It's evident they're hard at work on a sequel,possibly in early 2019.

Sony's Horizon Franchise Has Sold a Wild 38 Million Units Worldwide

As part of Sony’s legal assault on Tencent’s rip-off Light of Motiram title, the company’s revealed that Horizon’s franchise sales have topped 38 million units worldwide.

We last got word of the Guerrilla series’ commercial performance in April 2023, when the platform holder confirmed that the franchise had sold through 32.7 million units. This updated number means it’s added another five million units to its tally in the two years since.

and people wonder why sony wants to do a multiplayer title and released a lego game. the franchise is massive.

Christopher293d ago

It's the SP games that got them to this. They let LEGO make a very lackluster game and are working on an MP game w/o news on future SP content. Companies shouldn't ignore how they got to be popular in the first place. Don't pull an Ubisoft.

-Foxtrot293d ago

Yeah. All they are doing is diluting the franchise so when the third main game comes out we'll be more fatigued.

They've done far too much with this franchise in such a short space of time, it should have just been the first game, a new IP, the second game, the new IPs sequel, the third game in the trilogy etc and when that's done THEN think of spin offs, TV shows, films, board games, VR titles and comics.

Outside_ofthe_Box293d ago

The core gameplay mechanics of horizon is really good so I can see this being a good MP game if done right.

I miss the days when MP were a part of the actual game. Now it's an either or situation 🫤

Cacabunga292d ago

I think Lego was a big flop, which isn’t that bad.. i might try it when it releases on ps+

KyRo292d ago

The second game was also given away for free one Christmas with every PS5 sold which inflated numbers. Horizon are good games if not the most generic when it comes to gameplay out of Sony's IPs

PanicMechanic292d ago (Edited 292d ago )

“Which inflated numbers” you don’t have evidence for that. At best, you’ve made a baseless assertion, as packaged in games don’t contribute a whole lot to overall sales anyway

S2Killinit292d ago

“Generic” gameplay? You must be kidding.

KyRo292d ago (Edited 292d ago )

Panic mechanic, of course either inflates numbers. Wii Sports is one of the most "sold" games of all time dispute being given as part of every Wii console sold. Every bundle game ever is considered a sold unit since forever.

Horizon is a polished, ubisoft game. If Sony didn't make it, no one would care. They are beautiful showcases with shallow gameplay.

Abnor_Mal293d ago

That’s some great sales for a great series.

Aloymetal293d ago

That's great since HFW was kinda expensive to make (around 220mil) now bring H3!

Jin_Sakai293d ago

Cool. Now can we get back to Killzone or new IP.

Video Game Music Spotlight #13: Winter and Cold

VGChartz's Taneli Palola: "As we're in the coldest part of the year right now, I thought it would be fitting to highlight some seasonally appropriate musical themes, even if this winter has been somewhat lacking, at least where I live. I did a very similar spotlight in 2018, but it's not like video games are short on winter-themed tracks, so here's another eight for you to listen to!"
