Should Overwatch Bring Back The 'Avoid This Player' Feature?

With the toxicity rising in Overwatch, is it time for Blizzard to bring back the 'Avoid this player' feature?

As tempting as it sounds, said feature could also be abused by people angry at being defeated by better players. Didn't something like that happen already with Widowmaker players? They were good, and since people used the Avoid feature on them, they couldn't find many games, so Blizzard had to take the Avoid option away?

The only feature necessary for toxicity is muting. That way you dont have to listen to them if youre that sensitive.
Seriously...older games have already figured this out. Why cant Blizzard.

Not much more can be done beyond that unless you want to venture into mind control.

Id normally agree but even when you mute, they can just troll and intentionally choose wrong characters that go against the team comp.

EatCrow3118d ago

Well there is nothing you can do about that. You can't control what other players are allowed to do in a game they purchased.

The only solution I can see there is what Counter Strike does with their competitive. It should be divided into skill level which is gained by winning matches. Eventually you rise above the ranks of those trolls since their play-style forfeits matches.
Also server based games where the admin gets to kick and ban those that dont comply with rules set by them.

The problem with going further then that is that you potentially punish people that are
1 - learning to play.
2 - just not good but have good intentions.
3 - disagree with the team. Not necessarily trolling

Yeah they have competitive ranked where you can rise above the lower levels. But youre spot on with the good intentions/just disagreeing with the team. If the team asks me to play a char for the composition, I do it just to be a team player. But youre right, outside of that, not much you can do without overstepping.

Sure, why not? It's always a good feature to have!

Easily abused. It shouldn't return.

Nintendo Switch 2 Drops Must-Play Free FPS You Can Enjoy From Today

In 2023, developed by Blizzard Entertainment, Overwatch 2 was released, which was basically a big, glorified update of the original game that launched in 2016. Now, it’s simply reverted to being called just Overwatch, which is probably for the best.

The second iteration of Overwatch was released on the original Nintendo Switch, and while it’s still an enjoyable game with cross-play/progression functions, it’s still lacking in terms of performance and visuals, compared to its PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S counterparts. Well, it was.

As of today, the second iteration of Overwatch is natively available on the Nintendo Switch 2, just in time for Season 2: Summit.

The Nintendo Switch 2 version of Overwatch will have increased resolution both in handheld and docked modes, enhanced textures and lighting, up to 60 frames-per second, improved audio and more.

Blizzard is readying a patch to address the issue that the game is still running in Switch 1 build and just 30 fps.

Neonridr10d ago

you'd think they'd test it before pushing it live, lol.

that being said, clearly it's not running as intended.

repsahj10d ago

They know it for sure. Maybe they didn't finish optimizing the game by the targeted release date. That's why they released the Switch 1 30fps version first. XD
