Why Can't Microsoft Get PC Gaming Right?

— Xbox Enthusiast:

Forza Motorsport 7 is about to launch on Xbox One alongside Windows 10. While the game looks very promising, the PC version has not been well received by some players due to technical issues. This isn’t the first Microsoft-made title to have issues on PC. Why is it that the company behind Windows can’t seem to get its act together when it comes to making games for the platform?

I feel like they are too attatched to the Xbox and trying to fit it in somewhere that the PC is either not fully taken advantage of or is forgotten about. If they made the PC look too good then people would just say "Well that's nice guys and you've sold me on getting a full on gaming PC now but now I don't need to buy an Xbox One"

freshslicepizza3182d ago

That's because for once console gaming in the form of the Xbox One X is finally capable of competing with better PC's. We shall see what they do with Forza Horizon 3 on the Xbox One X because on the PC it runs at 60fps and higher.

What a weak argument. How long do you think that will last? You try too hard, I'll never understand why lol

Yet you think making the PC version worse or not better than the Xbox version to help sell Xbox systems is a better argument?

^Find where I said that. I'll wait 🤔

Microsoft for years was full of empty promises and subsequent lies about PC gaming. http://www.neogaf.com/forum...

When they decided to put their Xbox games on Windows 10 and gave the impression they meant it and understood PC gaming this time - you got that right - there were HUGE caveats. Bringing Xbox (minus online fee) into the picture meant it was a completely walled garden that PC gamers despise and is the reason they game on an open platform. In its initial form it was more-or-less Games For Windows Live: part 2.

Currently their store is a huge mess. Their games are grossly overpriced. Their software is unoptimized bloatware. They can't get simple pre-orders or downloads to work consistently. Games bought from their store have restrictions that have gotten fewer or been worked around but are still there compared to competing PC services. Yet you don't see certain people who actually game on that platform (but show more concern about console policy on consoles they don't own) ever bring up said problems or complaining or discussing.

Maybe it's cause of cross-buy and cross-play or something that they can attempt to overlook it, but notice how I said never even bring it up. To so heavily and consistently criticize something they don't game on or even plan on buying whilst not even brining up concern for their own platform of choice that they game on... goes both ways.

And that terrible & dishonest argument moldybread just tried about "[console gaming finally capable of competing with better PCs]", when the next generation of GPU and CPUs are already in production and will be on the market within 2 years just shows what I'm talking about. Now he's trying to deflect away from Microsoft PC issues by making it about the "no compromises" 4K console already proving to be compromised.

It's funny how you keep talking about me and replying to me yet when I respond you magically disappear. What happens in 2 years is like anything tech related, things get better. What's funny is just because the PC version needs work some are already trying to conjur up it is maybe to help sell Xbox systems. That makes no sense. If Microsoft wanted to promote the Xbox version over the PC they would have a 6 month timed exclusion. The fact is even when Forza Horizon 3 had PC issues it still was better than the Xbox One. Wjat's ironic is now that they have the most powerful console able to produce locked 60fps in 4k and on high PC settings now some want to believe they purposely held back the PC version.

"Their games are grossly overpriced."

I bought Recore definitive version for $20 and it runs awesome on the PC. Not sure how you are able to conclude ridiculous pricing when Nintendo is far worse at keeping prices high.

FallenAngel19843184d ago

Not to mention that not as many new AAA games are taking advantage of the Xbox Anywhere that Microsoft would like it to

Miss_Weeboo3184d ago

The few console exclusives MS had are on PC now, every single announced game it's gonna be on PC too (with this they are hurting their console), I'd say they care

DJStotty3181d ago (Edited 3181d ago )

Console sales wont decline. Parents arent gonna say to their kids, "nah ill get it on PC, you can have a gaming rig for crimbo"

Exclusives being on the PC will only result in people that ALREADY have gaming PC's to purchase them, thus increasing software revenue, which is where the money is, not hardware.

If they were hurting console sales, they wouldnt do it. If they were losing revenue, they wouldnt do it.
They are a corporation, they know what they are doing.

Miss_Weeboo3181d ago

Nintendo is a corporation, Sony is a corporation too, and they decide to not release their exclusives on PC. Why? Because having real exclusives sell consoles... and the whole idea, the whole trick/trap of the business is to sell consoles to then sell software FOR those consoles (If not, if it is such a nightmare, Why then MS, the number one software developer in the world, got themselves in the business of making hardware. Why not just be a 3rd party developer then?)
Just look at the sales this gen, Sony's PS4 is absolutely dominating the market Worldwide and US (mind me, a market that in the previous gen was OWNED by the 360) ... The PS4 is almost identical to the Xbone (yeah you could argue that some 3rdP looked slightly, just slightly better on PS4: it's the same), What made the difference then? Exclusives.
You can play Fifa, COD, etc. on both consoles, What made people go for PS4?

DJStotty3178d ago (Edited 3178d ago )

The 360 didnt "own" last gen, if im correct the PS3 outsold the 360 worldwide.

So why have Sony allowed PSNOW to be on PC? By your argument this completely contradicts what you have said about microsoft? The truth is PC is a neutral market that both Sony and Microsoft are trying to tap into.

If you put your exclusive game on PC, thats a potential extra few million sales.

Just because Forza 7 etc will be on PC, doesnt mean i am getting a gaming rig, they have still made a console sale as i have pre-ordered the X. Parents will still buy their kids the PS4 Pro/Xbox one X/Switch etc, the games are for the people who already have gaming pc's.

They still make a software sale, some people cant understand this

It's like they put all the talented person to hardware and system engineering and the leftover to game departments

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing46d ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Tanktopmaster9246d ago

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit46d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing46d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9246d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse
