Unreleased Atari Jaguar Game Footage Found

Carl Williams writes, "The Atari Jaguar is one of those consoles that just won’t die as every decade or so, it is revived in one form or another. We have seen Atari’s attempt at launching the Jaguar and it failed. Then we saw the shell used as some form of dental equipment, and more recently we reported on the scam that was the RETRO Video Game System/Coleco Chameleon console. Maybe here on out the only Atari Jaguar news we will have is stuff like this, an unreleased Atari Jaguar game has surfaced, well, at least in video form."

I used to own the console back in the day. However, I sold it in-order to buy the PS1 :S

triverse3168d ago

It was not that great of a console but that blame is laid, fairly, at the feet of Atari themselves.

LastCenturyRob3167d ago

Too bad... At first glance at least it looked like a solid arcade action game.

The Super Nintendo version was re-released by Piko Interactive under the name "Legend". No word on them getting the Jaguar game though.

It was a very powerful system, just a shame Atari couldn't break through the huge user base of the Megadrive, Snes, and with Sega and Sony in the background with Saturn and Ps1 it was doomed to fail. Checkout Atariage store still new releases for the Jaguar and 2600 for that matter.

I regularly cover new Atari games on RGM. I have been fortunate enough to get a few staff members that focus on new games for computers like the Atari 400/800, ST, Amiga, etc. Some great stuff going on with "dead" platforms.

My friend had one and would always defend it. "Tempest is Amazing!" Is all I'd hear, lol. I remember seeing it in action and thought, "it looks OK.
The controller was ridiculous though. Plus I had Turbografx, GenesiS and SNES. Zero interest in an Atari Console.

rainslacker3166d ago

Tempest was actually pretty good though. Nothing revolutionary though. Sadly, that's about the only game that was actually good on it.

And yeah, the controller was ridiculous.

TGCD was my go to system during those days though.:) Even into the PS1 gen, I played more Japanese imports on TGCD than any other system.

Unfortunately, one or two great games don't make a viable console success story. I am including Aliens vs Predator in the list of great Atari Jaguar games.

Duke193167d ago

I like the controller/numberpad combo. Ergonomics and usability have come a loooong way

triverse3166d ago

In some ways the Jaguar controller was ahead of its time, in others, it was behind (no six button layout in the default controller for instance).

Blues Journey is the game I'd like to see.

Popsicle25d ago

Pre-ordered mine a few days ago. Love this concept and hope there are more games announced. I can’t justify paying the prices for games that collectors are asking for. It’s the primary reason I own almost every console except the Neo Geo.

I've pre ordered one here in the UK, no games though, as I'll move it on for a higher price. The white model looks awesome, but as expected, the price is too high. We'll probably see more of those all in one cartridges from China containing every AES game. In the UK, AES+ game at £70 ($95) is better than eye watering prices for the originals, but these games are so old and I can honestly say SNK didn't release many classics. The Metal Slug series is the only series I rate, there were just too many Street Fighter clones and not enough scrolling fighting games. Overall, the Neo Geo was poor for all genres apart from one on one fighters. Videos on YouTube asking for games from that console generation to be ported to the AES+, but who'd want to pay £70 for Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter 2? There's a lot of SNK collections out there, the best being Metal Slug Anthology on the PlayStation 2. The Street Fighter Anniversary Collection on the Switch contains 12 games for around £30, instead of £840 if released on the AES+. For collectors, the AES+ is the best news since sliced bread. Are there enough SNK fans out there? Nowhere near. Those £70 cartridges will soon start creeping up in price and it'll be a re-run of the original console.

I always wanted one in the 90's but couldn't afford it. Now i can but i think if i get one it will be collecting dust fast. It's a nostalgia thing i guess.
