Not sure how someone would think launching during the holiday would not be a plus. There is a reason companies decide to launch close to the holiday, it's a large sales season and will help clear out whatever i product they can produce. At least that the goal, hype during Christmas season to make it a new thing for Christmas. Nintendo did not have that advantage. They probably did the smart thing in building it up during the year and having more consumer knowledge lead up to Christmas. It's still shows how well it sales doing this's s few months after Christmas.

Correct, according to NPD Switch has outsold Ps4 4 months out of its first 6 in the US, in Japan it has outsold it every month. UK has the Switch outselling the Xbox YTD but "Far behind Ps4".. The only redeeming factor in this scenario for xbox is that it wasn't decidedly crushed because of Switch supply constraints.

I'd say unless Switch ABSOLUTELY EXPLODES in 2018 Ps4 is securely #1 this gen with over 60m sold iirc.

Launching during the holiday has absolutely nothing to do with sales leads. If anything it's worse, because your max sales is capped by limited amount of consoles you can produce during at the time.

The PS4 and XBO launched during the holidays yes, but it didn't matter because both devices were limited by the 2m they had prepared for launch and the remaining consoles they could trickle out over the holiday. So yes they holiday 2013, but they could reap the benefits of true holiday sales until holiday 2014. PS4 did 4m holiday 2013 globally due to that being the amount they could produce over those 2 months, meanwhile it sold well over 6m the following holiday because it wasn't limited by supply. XBO sold 3m 2013, and 4m in 2014 because well sales never really took off, but it still sold more because supply was less of an issue.

The Launch month DOES NOT MATTER, because the hardware is going to sell out anyway due to Day 1 fans buying the consoles as well as eBay price gaugers.

The Switch on the other hand gets to have both launch and a holiday within the same calendar year which will matter. They sold 3.5m at launch in their first 2 months, and they should have enough supply for the holiday season to not be limited to overall sales since it will be 9 months later.

Except that sales do matter to the consumer. If your console of choice fails to achieve sufficient sales then third party support will be lacking.

Console sales do matter to an extent. Switch is likely to get 90% of games from japan in 2 or 3 years once it cements a lead, Good for switch owners.

Game sales matter to me Alot. for example, I'm probably not getting a sequel to my 2013 GOTY because it didn't perform well, which is partially a result of being on a low sales console as well(WIIU).
