Most anticipated game: Xenoblade 2.

Gazondaily3087d ago

Odyssey and Zelda should easily smash the competition this year

The 10th Rider3087d ago

@Septic,

You said Smash! Smash 5 = confirmed!

Ricegum3087d ago

@Septic

Well to be fair, there is no competition from the Xbox. The only competition for them this gen is from the PS4.

Babadook73087d ago

In terms of software they were the best. Not counting PS4 of course.

nX3087d ago

OMG 38 games!!! of which 25 or so are rereleases or yearly sports titles.

Actually the only good Nintendo game I've played this year was Zelda while PS4 had MUCH more to offer this year...

Sono4213087d ago

@Septic The only thing breath of the wild smashes is it's in game weapons, Odyssey, Splatoon 2, Mario + Rabbids, and Xenoblade 2 is what makes the Switch shine this year, not the worst, most overhyped/overrated console Zelda to date.

I would agree, if it weren't for the fact that Zelda still has some DLC content coming that will add to the main storyline.
I'll keep my piece on this one until I know how that turns out, but I'm still hyped to death for Xenoblade 2.
Many sleepless nights ahead. My wish list for Switch is over 60 games long, and still growing.
Too many games, not enough cash...

naruga3087d ago (Edited 3087d ago )

hahahaha what a ridiculous article..shwallow it people (competion-console makers and retarded media ) -PS4 is and will be your Daddy

michellelynn09763086d ago

Gee. Another mad fan who cannot handle facts. Grow up.

Sammykee3087d ago

For now, Nintendo has shown the most promise from all the three major companies. We'll have to see who wins out the year, but Nintendo is proving to be hard to beat.

3087d ago
PlayableGamez-3087d ago

Sony has the most potential out of the big 3.
Nintendo is on a good track (third party is starting to look a lot better on the Switch), but they still have ways to go. (The Nintendo Switch online infrastructure desperately needs an overhaul).
The PS4 has provided amazing experiences this year and there is still a lot to go.
Not trying to downplay the Switch, but realistically, the PS4 is still the console that has the most potential.
As far as Xbox, MS has made some good decisions this year, but the lack of marketing and first party content has put them in an underwhelming position.
So realistically I rank them like this Sony > Nintendo > MS.

NewMonday3087d ago

I love what Nintendo are doing, but the PS4 had many great games in the start of 2017.

KwietStorm_BLM3087d ago

It's great to see that Nintendo finally has strong 3rd party support again, like the article says, but let's not act like the rest of 2017 just didn't happen. The first 3 months of this year alone had an abundance of great games. It's rare enough that we get so many games that early in the year, but the quality too is something that has to be recognized.

3087d ago
trooper_3087d ago

So we're just ignoring Sony?

thisismyaccount3087d ago

You have to be kiddin ... "most promise of all three major companies".

- Gravity Rush 2
- Tales Of Berseria
- Yakuza 0
- Nioh
- Horizon Zero Dawn
- Nier: Automata
- Persona 5
- Kingdom Hearts 2.8 HD Final Chapter Prologue
- Uncharted: The Lost Legacy
- Kingdom Hearts 1.5 + 2.5 HD ReMIX
- MLB: The Show 17
- Danganronpa 1.2 Reloaded and 3?
- Crash Bandicoot: N.Sane Trilogy
- Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age
- Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice
- and few more ...

Sony´s first 9 month beats the "promises" out of the Nintendo Zelda + Platoon2/Remaster launch / titles. And as someone eager to get a Switch (at the right price + Zelda), i´m not so convinced that shipping 5mill. SKU in 6 months world wide is what i would consider a "tremendous success". Far from it ...

dillydadally3087d ago

@VenomSnakeRisingX having less games? I have a feeling you didn't watch the most recent Nintendo Direct? In fact, I'll bet most people who are downvoting @Sammykee's comment didn't watch the most recent Nintendo Direct. I feel like they announced more games in that direct than they did at E3!

FinalFantasyFanatic3087d ago

Hey, Nintendo is doing well, but it's pretty much Sony's year this year, Nintendo is only just getting started and Sony has been hammering out those titles like crazy.

sampson31213087d ago (Edited 3087d ago )

Horizon has already given playstation the win. the expansion later this year will be the icing on the "winner" cake

rainslacker3086d ago

Potential for what? Sales? If so, Sony is still going to win there unless Nintendo manages to make enough to satisfy demand, and then it'll still be close.

On the software front, I'd say that both are great, so it's kind of subjective on which is better. Personally, If one were to own one or the other, they'll be good for the year. If they own both, then no worries.

subtenko3086d ago

BS, just because NIntendo just now started to improve doesnt mean they are king of the world. PS4 has been number 1. My suggestion to you is keep asking Nintendo to cut any remaining bs its doing and take the best strengths from PlayStation if you wanna get on that level...i dont think microsoft wants to improve the stubborn pricks

_-EDMIX-_3086d ago

@venom-completely agreed I'm having a hard time understanding how anyone could believe a company won something based on having less content.

@dill-it doesn't matter unless Nintendo's track confirmed every major game coming this fall is coming to the system his comment is still relevant. I mean you're saying a company won an entire year based on having six year old ports...

I mean you're congratulating a company simply on getting some of the titles their competition has had for years. So I don't really know how anyone can congratulate and someone for getting Skyrim LA Noire or Doom if you consider those games can be found elsewhere, but ignore the systems that are consistently getting the top games day 1? So you just ignored Destiny 2 Battlefront Call of Duty Far Cry Assassin's Creed Origins etc

But let me guess if one of those titles comes to the switch it's now the greatest year and beats all the competition? Ummmm ok you cannot have it both ways ,you cannot ignore what's coming to PC PlayStation and Xbox only to start jumping for joy and tears because a 6 year game is finally coming to your system. I honest to God don't understand how Doom Skyrim in LA Noire also coming to the system somehow made it beat the systems that have already received these games 😂😂😂

Those games are not even on the radar of the major systems this fall I'm sorry but LA Noire is not going to somehow outsell the top 15 major properties releasing this fall that is extremely unlikely.

I mean consider this is not even getting the exact version of those games it's getting a Last Generation versions of them 😂😂😂

shuvam093087d ago

I would like to support you. But when you have Zelda + Mario (mainline) + Xenoblade coming out the same year, there isn't much to support. Nintendo pretty much single handedly owned the year without any significant 3rd party support. And there is no denying that. I will eventually get a Switch down the line, but just hope that Sony is noticing.

Nyxus3087d ago

PS4 exclusives in 2017:
- Gravity Rush 2
- Yakuza 0
- Nioh
- Horizon Zero Dawn
- Persona 5
- Wipeout Omega Collection
- Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy
- Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age
- Uncharted: The Lost Legacy
- Everybody's Golf
- Yakuza Kiwami
- Gran Turismo Sport

And that's not even all of them, and it doesn't include multiplatform games either.

DarXyde3087d ago

Nyxus,

shuvam09 specifically said "Nintendo pretty much single handedly owned the year without any significant 3rd party support."

You've listed some great games (some are even amazing), but Sony had a pretty big hand from third party developers and you really can't deny that. Six games on that list are verifiable as first-party, so 50%. Still, six games in a year is not at all bad. It's great, though I believe you two are arguing two different points.

To be clear, Persona 5 is my game of the generation and I spent far more time with Gravity Rush 2 than I thought possible. I still play both games almost religiously...but neither are what you would exactly call system sellers in the traditional sense. If we scale both of your arguments, Nintendo and Sony end up being fairly even this year in terms of first party support. Both consoles have two first party games people would rush out for (Horizon and Gran Turismo; Zelda and Mario). You also have the other first party games that are arguably great, but are acquired tastes (Gravity Rush 2; Xenoblade 2). Likewise, if you're counting remakes for Sony (WipeOut Omega Collection; Crash isn't first party anymore so you can't really count that), Mario Kart 8 Deluxe counts.

The original argument was first party from shuvam09. Your reply goes into third party territory. Under very controlled circumstances, Nintendo arguably wins first party offering.

If you factor in third party however, Sony wins. Hands down.

shuvam093086d ago

@Nyxus

Noting down some exclusives won't prove anything when going up against three of the best that Nintendo has to offer. Look, I am a huge Sony fan and am currently satisfied with my PS4. But comparing both the consoles by their initial year, Nintendo has surely got their sh*t right this time around. And given how unique the console is, it really stands out from the consoles and PC. They've got me wanting a console that I was as sceptical about as you are now. I am no Nintendo fanboy. I am just giving credit where it's due. It's not like all the consoles cannot co-exist. Competition is the only source of inspiration.

DarXyde3087d ago

It kinda is. We already know what to expect from everyone.

Sony really brought the games in the first half of 2017 and Nintendo's really bringing it in the second half. I have very serious doubts that Horizon's Frozen Wilds will disappoint, just as I seriously doubt Mario Odyssey and Xenoblade will (Fire Emblem Warriors may be an acquired taste, though I believe I'll enjoy it since I enjoyed Hyrule Warriors).

Side thoughts: For me, longevity is also a factor.Every one of the aforementioned Nintendo game is a sizable time commitment if you're a completionist. On PlayStation, I've spent 125+ hours on Gravity Rush 2, 400+ hours on Persona 5, and 100+ hours on NieR: Automata. I still play those games. I imagine it'll be similarly time consuming for Xenoblade and FE Warriors at the very least. Mario will be busy work too, but not as much, I imagine. Breath of the Wild has me at 150+ hours.

Overall, I REALLY enjoyed my time with the PS4 this year and I've enjoyed some time with the Switch. I don't know if I would say Nintendo "won" 2017, but they're definitely going to be very competitive this year. If we're talking about first party games, I'd grudgingly give it to Nintendo because I love GR2 that much and. Third party, Sony. Any combination, it's a toss up.

gbsrnctaln3087d ago

If TFW can be for Horizon what TLL was for U4, then Sony hands down wins. I might like TLL more than U4.

DarXyde3087d ago

gbsrnctaln,

I disagree. You mention that YOU might like The Lost Legacy more than Uncharted 4. The quality may be comparable, but the general consensus is Uncharted 4 itself is better. I'm sure The Frozen Wilds will not disappoint, but I wouldn't just hand Sony the year either. We really don't know how amazing Mario Odyssey or Xenoblade Chronicles 2 will be. Using your logic of comparably amazing experiences, Xenoblade Chronicles was a phenomenal game (92 average on Metacritic) and if the sequel is as amazing, you can't really say Sony takes it, now can you? Xenoblade Chronicles scored just one point less than Uncharted 4 whereas The Lost Legacy and X scored the same. In either case, both are Uncharted 4 and Xenoblade Chronicles are argued to be better games than Horizon. Totally debatable. The way I see it, The Frozen Wilds will be great and Xenoblade Chronicles 2 will be great.

Both are having a great year and I don't see much merit in declaring a "winner". The article itself is problematic in using such precise language. I have to say though, it's difficult to dispute that Sony has won in terms of overall offering, but the fact that Nintendo just being able to take first party might bother some people is a bit unhinged. Nintendo can have a perfect Metacritic of 100 for every game they release this year, but that doesn't change the fact that Sony killed it this year with the quantity of quality games.

If Nintendo delivers all around, just let it go.

michellelynn09763086d ago

True, but look at who has the best lineup, anything can happen, but it looks like Nintendo has won.

Markusb333087d ago

The switch looks like it's recycling games from the wiiu and just releasing stuff you have had before. I'm not a fan if remasters or upscaled old games either on ps4 or the x. New experiences is why I buy a console. Not to play old games for a 3rd time or I'm better res. It's milking and I can't buy into that BS.

FinalFantasyFanatic3087d ago

Sammykee3087d ago

I'm not a huge PS4 fan, but what exclusives has Sony brought this year? Nintendo is killing it in that department from what we saw in the latest Nintendo Direct.

PhoenixUp3087d ago (Edited 3087d ago )

What a load of bullshit.

PS4 has had a ton of exclusives this year, that's not even up for debate.

Also let's not even try to pretend that multiplats don't matter, especially how Nintendo fans jizzed themselves when LA Noire, Doom, & Wolfenstein got announced for NS but then got upset when Okami HD did not. And in terms of multiplat PS4 ultimately decimates NS.

PhoenixUp3087d ago

Wow dude you must be living under a rock then

notachance3087d ago (Edited 3087d ago )

@sammykee and darklink

the fuck?

Gravity Rush 2, HZD, Nioh, Persona 5, Yakuza 0, Crash Bandicoot, Yakuza Kiwami, FFXII, Uncharted:Lost Legacy, Knack 2, Everybody's Golf, Hellblade...

and that's only the ones I've remembered and cared about, couldn't be bothered to google more shit for blind people

and that's the only released ones, there are still more to be released this year

and those are only PS exclusives, there are much more if we include things only on PS/PC : Nier, Tales of Berseria, YS VIII lacrimosa of dana, danganronpa..

and still much more if we include multiplatform that doesn't exist on nintendo

and unannounced TGS 2017 games...

and unannounced PSX games...

3087d ago
badz1493087d ago

@Sammykee

"but what exclusives has Sony brought this year? Nintendo is killing it in that department"

you lost all credibility with those sentences alone! I'm not gonna list all PS4 exclusives that have been released since January but just last 3 weeks alone, Sony has released THREE 1st party exclusives - Uncharted TLL, Eerybody's Golf and Knack 2. the PS4 has the most exclusives this year and it's not even debatable because it's a cold hard FACT!

or maybe you just can't see any other game without "Nintendo" printed on it

wonderfulmonkeyman3087d ago

PS4 has been out longer, so that's a given.
That doesn't detract from the fact that the Switch's first 6 months are setting very high standards, and the majority of its games are high quality.
Yeah, it's missing the most graphically-intensive mainstream multiplats, but that doesn't mean that its current roster of exclusives doesn't stand toe-to-toe in entertainment value to anything the competition has put out.
It wouldn't be selling to the point of having stock issues if that were the case.

Silly gameAr3087d ago

Hopefully, it would have many highly rated games on it. What is wrong with you guys?

Aenea3087d ago

Really? So a theoretical console that is released now with one game that becomes the highest rated game and nothing else releases for that console is then the best platform?

Shouldn't we just look at everything and not just the highest rated?

I love Zelda, but this is silly beyond believe!

Dark_Knightmare23087d ago

I'd take numerous high rated games than 1 that only scored .7 higher than a new I.p on metacritic

Kaze883087d ago

Best game makes the platform best of the year...one game...pffff. You must be kidding.

Nyxus3087d ago

The PS4 already has had several very highly rated games this year.

_-EDMIX-_3086d ago

Why would you base the best platform based on a single game?

I would assume the best platform would be a platform that had multiple quality games, not 1 game. By that logic that applies to the Wii U as well considering it also released for that platform ie a port.

Besides I do recognize the submitter comments from past submissions, and unlike you, I don't keep falling for every flambait submission. Smarty pants like you are the reason we keep having submissions like this one making it to the hottest on here.

CoryHG3087d ago

Dude, seriously we get it, you like Nintendo. "If" South Park comes out? Its coming out. In a month. For the real systems. Enjoy your mobile game ports and ten year old Street Fighter. Just be happy that Nuntundo is ahead of Microsoft. It took seven years for a Metroid game, that's not even designed in-house, and gets thrown on the portable system everyone is supposed to forget. Only for the game to get announced for Switch two years later with improved visuals because of common sense. I take it you wrote this article too? In fact, you did.

Ricegum3087d ago

South Park looks fantastic. As does Evil Within 2.

The 10th Rider3087d ago

Pretty sure people are overestimating how good South Park is going to be. The first game was made by Obsidian, who are some of the top RPG developers out there. Sure the sequel may still be a good game, but I'd honestly be surprised if it was better than the first one.

wonderfulmonkeyman3087d ago

In all honesty, I'd rather give the crown of that to Kingdom Hearts III over a South Park game, but I guess that's all subjective in the end anyways.

No, I own a Wii U and I'm planning on buying a Switch, and XB is definitely gonna be bought.

The only GOTY contenders (in my oh so humble opinion) on Switch right now are Mario O and BOTW. And the latter is being VERY forgiving of it's many, many flaws.

@PurpHerbison Even Fanboy and Loyalist have their similarities but one different between me and them that. I don't go crazy and not completely delusional person like others. i support and criticized about Sony, but all I want Sony to be better.

OtakuDJK1NG-Rory3087d ago (Edited 3087d ago )

Oh I'm sorry I didn't think this article will attract you guys.
Silly me for saying the Switch has won 2017. I forgot that nothing can beat the PS4.

remixx1163087d ago

Nobody ever said nothing could beat the ps4, your just so quick to hail nintendo as the greatest thing ever an will shout fanboy at anyone who disagrees with you even tho you are the bidders nintendo fanboy on this site.

Both consoles have done great this year but subjectively speaking Sony has done flat out better.

The first 3 months consisted 8 exclusives none of which were indie or multiplat, none of which rated below an 80 on metacritic and 2 which rated above a 90. After that it has literally been exclusive after exclusive after exclusive almost every month. Keep in mind I'm still ignoring Indies and big 3rd party games.

My highlights for Sony this year are gravity rush 2, nioh, horizon zero dawn, nier automata, kingdom hearts 1.5 +2.5 hd, persona 5, tales of bersia, crash and Wipe out omega collection. I'll add gt sport to that list soon.

So far my highlights for Nintendo are Zelda botw, Mario kart 8 deluxe and soon to be splatoon 2.

OtakuDJK1NG-Rory3087d ago

And I didn't say anything about PS4 either but I know how you guys are.
I know yall aren't disagreeing because of Xbox One or Steam.

Hail Nintendo greatest thing ever?
Oh I am sorry for expressing how I feel about this year as far as Nintendo goes and how much quality games they released.

Yall are disagreeing because I said "definitely"

remixx1163087d ago

Lol dude you said definitely, which implies that you 100% agree with the title of this article, which can be very strongly argued against when the competition has just as many high profile games announced in the pipe line and has waaaaaay more released and high rated games.

Your the wrong person to pronounce the winner of anything because no matter what nintendo does you will always proclaim them best even if they do next to nothing.

And this is coming from an avid nintendo/Sony fan, just not blind like the rest of the bunch.

UCForce3086d ago (Edited 3086d ago )

Well, you are getting cocky of course. Have you ever criticized Nintendo once ? I doubt it. Like I said before, I do support and criticize about Sony but all I want Sony to be better. The reason why I'm PS Loyalist because I bought the first PS console and It changed my life ever since. I know Sony will mess up just like the last generation, but they also try fix that and they did.

So here my advice for ya, try to balance between optimism and criticism.
