Why Hasn’t Kid Icarus Caught On?

Alex S. from Link-Cable writes: "Kid Icarus occupies an odd spot in Nintendo’s roster of franchises. The series has been around since the lat 80’s and has gone through spurts of being either a semi-regular sight in the company’s cadre or completely forgotten and ignored. This inconsistent exposure got me thinking – how come Kid Icarus never caught on? On the surface the series has everything you would want from a classic ‘Nintendo’ game and for all intents and purposes it had the same genesis as series’ like Metroid (more on that later) and potential that could rival the big N’s biggest names like Zelda and Mario. So what went wrong? Why hasn’t Kid Icarus become a big series?"

That and the fact that the IP is really old. So the 90s and 2000s kids don't even know what Kid Icarus is all about.

Speak of the devil, just played it last night on my emulator. 'twas the quintessential Nintendo game.

They should definitely consider going Greek again. So much they could do with the characters, setting and gameplay (and look good doing it).
