The Evil Within 2 is Everything We Wanted This Year

After the success survival horror experience of the first, Bethesda is releasing The Evil Within 2 later this year. Directed by industry legend Shinji Mikami, the early trailers show an equally tense experience that looks to take things even further. Here's my opinion on - Why The Evil Within 2 is Everything We Wanted This Year.

1st game was pretty good imo and Tangoworks looks like they're knockin it out the park with this one.

Yeah. I'm only playing the first one now thanks to sales and it is a fantastic game in its own right. Playing it on wide screen on my VR too is pretty brutal. Nice to see a new franchise starting. I love the way they implemented safe rooms.

My PC is ready for a 4K horror experience in 60fps

TrueMetal3209d ago

Same here as long as 1080 Ti with i7 5930k is enough

MegamanXXX3209d ago (Edited 3209d ago )

That should be way more than enough. I'll be using a 6700k and 1080 on high settings I probably won't get 60fps in Ultra settings though

Very stoked for this one, need to keep the horror genre alive

Spike20XX3208d ago

You're very right on this one.
If we stop giving the genre a chance, we'll only get one of a kind shooters in the future.

Seems like most horror games these days lean towards the player being a bit underpowered or having no weapons at all, I hope this one gives you a decent range of guns and ammo like the first game and lots of weird s**t to shoot at. And occasionally run away from in a blind panic.

Dragonscale3208d ago (Edited 3208d ago )

Tbh its a staple of most horror games. Ever since the original Resi most horror games tend to leave you under-equipped to deal with their terrors. With some games like Outlast you don't even get a weapon. Suppose it adds to the atmosphere.

Nacho_Z3208d ago

Yeah it's the traditional way of doing things for sure. Personally I prefer the Dead Space method where you're actually armed pretty well, doesn't make it any easier or less tense if it's done well. I'd say the first Evil Within was more like that then most contemporary horrors which seem to give you a torch and a pair of legs and that's it.

The Evil Within Deserved More: A Great Horror Series Left Behind

The Outerhaven writes: While I hold Bethesda's The Evil Within series as some of the best Survival Horror games available, it's clear that Bethesda has no intention of revisiting the series. While Capcom is still working on its Resident Evil series, I look back at the now-dead survival horror series from Bethesda, wondering why the series was left wide open, and yet still not revisited.

An OK horror series left behind. It had some great ideas, but it never knew how to play to its strengths. Instead, it came out like just another RE4 clone.

I would love for a third entry to come out, but it needs to learn to lean in on the psychological aspect and move away from the generic "pew pew" ideology at the center of the gameplay loop. It doesn't need to abandon it; it just needs to put it into better context, is all.

Also, try a first-person perspective instead. Too many 3rd-person games with nothing to offer but an avatar taking precious screen space. At least make it an actual option and not that janky-ass mess the second game pretended to have.
