Ubisoft's Skull & Bones will mix it's story with multiplayer and doesn't look to be adding single-player in the traditional sense. Expect PvP focus

good luck with that uninspired sht of a game ....who the f going to pay multiplayer for boring bad made naval battles , copied directly from also mediocre AC4 ? .....lame

He's not going to respond.

He's already on the prowl to be the first commenter on another thread.

It's good because forced singleplayer modes in online-focused games are garbage.

Same reason why Overwatch, Dota2 and CSGO, which are some of the most popular and successful games ever, don't have singleplayer modes. There's also PUBG if you want a more recent example. These are all online-only games that have sold more copies than any current-gen console game. I'm just saying this to make you realize the value of multiplayer-only games.

I literally cannot understand why the console playerbase is so stuck in the past when it comes to multiplayer games. On PC you don't see anyone complaining. We embrace them because we understand that they are worth hundreds of hours of fun, when a singleplayer game would generally be worth 10. This anti-multiplayer mentality is ridiculous....

@Timesplitter14

There is nothing wrong with online multiplayer but eventually, players lose interest and the servers get shut down and what you have left with is either a coaster or wasted space on your storage device.

A single player game that does not depend on online servers can be played as long as you have the software, are interested and still have a machine to play it on.

Urgh...for f*** sake Ubisoft. We're sick and tired of this multiplayer/online focused crap in your games

The Division, Rainbow Six Siege, Ghost Recon Wildlands, Steep, The Crew, For Honor, Skulls and Bones, even Beyond Good and Evil 2 looks like it's aiming for that aswell

Even other games where it wasn't that bad and single player was still a decent option like Watch Dogs, Assassins Creed Unity and Rayman Origins/Legends with it's co-op focus it felt like it was heading to this. It's like they think that because AC is still single player that it balances everything out even though most of us are all burnt out from AC.

Makes me scared for Beyond Good and Evil 2 as it doesn't even look like the same IP we fell in love with, it seems like another big idea they came up with but obviously didn't want to risk it on a new IP so it's finally given them a reason to fund a sequel...so they can use it as a launching pad to put another idea forward.

Rayman 4 (3D), Prince of Persia, Splinter Cell, An actual Pirates game which is a single player and is like the cancelled Pirates of the Caribbean game...these are the games we need.

" like Call of Duty when you play campaign and you go online, [and you get something very different]"

You really don't...after an hour or two playing online non stop you've experienced everything the game has to offer.

lelo2play3195d ago

Please Ubisoft, don't f**k up Beyond Good and Evil 2 by making it heavily focused on multiplayer. Give us a great single player experience first and foremost.

As for Skull & Bones, my interest is very low.

ASBO-53195d ago

Oh they're already well on their way to f'ing it up. Have you seen the latest trailer? F-Bombs every 2 seconds, totally dosent fit the tone of BG&E

The 10th Rider3195d ago

I've said for a long time that Ubisoft being behind Beyond Good and Evil 2 was the one reason I wouldn't get excited if they announced one. The gameplay they showed look okay. The tone of the trailer was way off though. My confidence in Ubisoft is so low I don't think BG&E 2 is even on my radar anymore.

Team_Litt3195d ago

Rayman Origins/Legends are masterpieces! We do not speak of them while angry sir!

The 10th Rider3194d ago

They're fantastic games and TBH I'd settle for another sequel over just about anything else they have coming out.

CyberSentinel3195d ago

Required Online means "pass" for me.

GamesMaster19823195d ago (Edited 3195d ago )

No single player offline story no buy. F the stupid online multiplayer crap.

Silly gameAr3195d ago

I think Ubisoft is one of the best companies in the industry, but they really know how to make their games kind of unappealing with their focus on MP.

Most Disappointing Game of 2024

VGChartz's Mark Nielsen: "In a year that was to a large extent carried by the game developers of Japan (and to some extent China), western games can rejoice that there was at least one category they managed to dominate: that of Most Disappointing. Sometimes disappointment comes from high expectations met with something middling, other times it comes from middling expectations met with something terrible. This year managed to deliver a bit of both, so either way there was enough disappointment to go around."

Why not mention the 19,000 Steam games of which 80% weren't good enough to merit "success" on the platform?

You gotta be effing kidding me with that logic.

coolbeans481d ago

Because the very *definition* of disappointment requires one has some kind of expectation for it. Concord was hoping to find its own niche in the crowded 'hero shooter' market, with ~8 years of development, $100 million+ funding, and marketable talent behind it, and went belly up in 2 lousy weeks. That's historical for a live-service game.

thorstein481d ago

It's become a drinking game at this point. Disappointing games? It's the same games in every article with a similar title. Does no one have an original thought anymore?

RaidenBlack481d ago

@thorstein
**It's the same games in every article with a similar title.**
Because it's the same year? The games that got launched is a constant fact for everyone. And if the game was universally disappointing, then obviously everyone would echo the same thing.
Do you want for originality some writer would write up that instead of Concord and Outlaws, Silent Hills 2 was the most disappointing game, right? Coz, that'd be considered a click-bait article then.
And emphasis on the word "disappointing" games, not general bad games.

LordoftheCritics481d ago

Veilguard was easily the most disappointing game of the year.
Highest expectation with Highest disappointment

Concord was just the biggest failure.
In fact it was not very disappointing.
Almost as expected.

DivineHand125481d ago

@LordoftheCritics I disagree about Vailguard being the most disappointing game of the year. Going into the launch of that game, 90% of the comments I was seeing from this community were negative. Many also wanted the game to fail.

In my opinion, for a game to be disappointing, it would mean the game was highly anticipated for success going into the launch of the game only to bomb in the reviews and fail commercially.

I would say Hellblade 2 claims this title. I haven't played any of the games in the series as yet, however, the hate that game received was on another level. I am not sure if it was fanboys that felt threatened by it being the best-looking console game on the market or if the criticisms about it being a boring game were valid. I haven't played these walking games before so put it off since it doesn't seem to be my cup of tea.

Those 19,000 games have 80%. Dragon age is sitting at 70%, Star wars is at 75% and falling, Lego Horizon adventures is at 56%, Skull and Bones 65% and Concord was DOA. This would mean these games didn't even crack the top 19,000.

Skull And Bones Reveals Season 3 Updates

This sounds like a great update. Today, Ubisoft announced the launch of Skull and Bones’ third season, “Into the Dragon’s Wake” in which players will face the formidable fleets of Li Tian Ning and Commander Zhang.
