I'm loving this game and her facials are top of the line. To be fair the game only really focuses on her so they didn't have to do much of anything on other characters like in a game like Horizon or nier.

Great work - but didnt James Camerons team invent a similar setup for Avatar first?

Pandamobile3200d ago

Cameron pioneers a lot of the capture techniques, but doing real-time mocap for games was largely unproven before Hellblade.

what about The Last Of Us?

Pandamobile3200d ago

They didn't really utilize real-time mocap as far as I know. Maybe for pre-vis, but Naughty Dog's motion capture pipeline is pretty traditional in that they capture the data offsite It then has to be processed by a small team internally or externally before it is then animated together.

Ninja Theory do all the mocap in their studio and stream both body and face data right into the engine as they capture it. It's still cleaned up and polished in post but they've certainly got a unique take on their methods.

Ninja Theory's pipeline is very focused but it is also very constrained. They only have one actor to worry about. Doing this type of real-time capture for more complex multi-person shots and with different actors all the time would prove to be very difficult on a limited budget.

Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice Review | What's It Like In 2024?

Admittedly, Hellblade: Senua's Saga is far from perfect and won't be a game for everyone, but now with a multitude of accessibility options it has made itself much more palatable for a wider audience, and with constant sale prices between $2-$4, Hellblade: Senua's Saga is too good to pass up for a unique experience that has stood the test of time and will do so once more with its even more robust and epic sequel.

The only thing epic about this “game” is how longnit took to make.

The Hellblade games looked nice but they were essentially walking simulators with a minimal amount of combat tracked on.

willykyu282d ago

At long last, it’s about time they upgraded it !
I didn’t like hellblade 2 at all, which lost all its mystery and originality in this graphically superb but extremely boring sequel. But I loved the first one. And I was pretty annoyed it was stuck on ps4 version on ps5. Bugs and didn’t run that well.
Now I’m going to play it all over again !!! In its nicest version on PlayStation.
