One of the oddest moments in the Destiny 2 beta was the cutscene leading into the intro mission, where your Ghost chatters away at you as you fly a ship and your Guardians then turns and says….nothing in response.
Your Guardian continues not to speak throughout the other parts of the beta, even as everything goes to hell all around them and everyone they know and love is in mortal danger. The entire story mission ends without them uttering a single line.

PlayStation has scaled back expectations for Bungie after reassessing Destiny 2 development costs, highlighting the risks tied to live-service games.
Honestly Thank Goodness!! Yet another good sign of a possibility of returning to what made them great and undoing Jim Tyans trend chasing love service gamble. Still gotta wait and see just what direction they're going but this is a good sign in my book that they're not betting it all on live service anymore
It may take a while but maybe they are finally learning. Good! Now stop with the live service crap.
They say this and then immediately release news of the Horizons co-op game that will definitely be a Live Service game.

Patch notes for Update 9.5.0.5, the one about Equilibrium fixes and more, are now available.

A new survey shows Destiny 2 is considering adding Sparrow Racing League, unvaulted campaigns, NPC sidekicks, new PvP and Gambit modes, and much more.
No i like that, I really like a strong supporting cast of characters and mute protagonist.
Just recently one of the most highest rated game in years, Legend of Zelda Breath of wild , had a MUTE protagonist as well. Nintendo gets it, bethesda use to get it, and bungie gets it as well. Half life 2 was also another famous game that did it.
Mute protagonist really immerses myself with that character and makes it when the character does say something once or twice it is very important.Master Chief in halo 1-3 was the perfect example of what a "mute" character should be, he did talk but it was very rare and it was important.
"But another problem with Destiny 2 is that this decision doesn’t really make you a mute protagonist because instead, it makes your Ghost, Nolanbot, your voice instead. Characters speak to you, but it’s Ghost who responds instead. Ghost has sort of been your voice for a while now in Destiny, as your character did only have a handful of lines in the original game, but now it’s official. We’re mute, he’s our floating response box. And I’m not wild about that idea."
I really hate that idea. At least with many other mute protagonists it's heavily implied that they do speak but the player doesn't hear them.
I agree with this article when it says "which feels like a cost-saving measure more than anything, with Bungie being able to avoid recording identical lines for the different races and genders."
Well... since it is an online-heavy game, aren't *you* technically the voice of the protagonist?
Mute protagonists don't have to be an issue, but the game does need to have a great cast of supporting characters and a pretty solid story. Dead Space may be one of the best examples of a great mute character. As is GTA III.
They don't want to waste money...they are being cheap. I mean that's why it looks like a simple expansion to the first game.
