Destiny 2 Beta Does More Harm Than Good

As console players are wrapping up their time with the Destiny 2 Public Beta, the reception of developer Bungie’s appetizer has been… underwhelming. Returning players expected an atonement for the game’s past mistakes, but instead felt they’d received an omen of things to come. Specifically, more of the same things.

GhostlyJunior3096d ago

This story is being dramatic. It's gonna be great at 60fps on PC and everybody will forget they were worried at all.

Kupa3096d ago

I'm sure it will be great on PC. It's just worrisome that they aren't showing off any improvements they have been working on.

Shin-Zantetsuken3096d ago

Well, according to Bungie the beta is a very small part of the full game and they did not feature many of the changes in it to delight and surprise the gamers when they play the game for the first time... Take that as you will since they have lied before... But I have been staying update with IGN first videos so I know how much content and features were not shown in the beta and how different the actual game will be. The beta is a very old build and devs have progressed significantly since then with different ammo economy, weapon balances, class balances etc. etc. It is an online server based game so they can easily make changes to the systems whenever they want.

What does 60 fps and playing on PC have to do with anything?

The article talks about gripes with the mechanics of the game and somehow that will be fixed by "60 fps"?

What is wrong with people?

For the record, I'm not a fan of some of the things in the beta either, but I think they'll turn out fine in the end.

StormLegend3096d ago

People act like 60FPS will change a terrible game into a masterpiece. It's sad sometimes hearing about 60FPS this 60FPS that, people don't even care about the gameplay anymore only the frame rate.

UnHoly_One3096d ago (Edited 3096d ago )

I don't even know why people have to bring up what platform they are playing on, it's just stupid and starts arguments.

I see comments like this all the time.

"I can't wait to play this game on my PC"

"This game looks sweet on PS4 Pro"

"Can't wait to get this on X1X"

Who cares? Just talk about the game itself and maybe we would all get along better.

JLynn9433096d ago

The things that Destiny did well felt pretty same-y. That's fine. The gunplay, environment design, and strike were all good. I wanted to see more from the beta/demo though. This game could prove to have significant improvements, but it was hard to tell from it. I liked the added/changed abilities for the classes, but that's just one thing. The enemy from the last cutscene seemed super lame.

Dissidia3096d ago

What seemed super lame about him?

jugo143096d ago

how about barely being a reskin of an enemy from the first game.

Bungie: "This time he glows more!"

This game is gonna suck hard

UnHoly_One3096d ago

He's a Cabal, what is he supposed to look like, if not like the other Cabal?

That's like complaining about Vaas in Far Cry 3 being a terrible bad guy because he looks similar to the other human enemies.

I swear people will bitch about anything.

phickpisseh3095d ago

@jugo14 ... yeah just like the first game sucked so hard that millions of people put hundreds and thousands of hours in it - until today.

go troll somewhere else and just face the fact that Destiny evolved into one of the biggest franchises in video game history

Can't wait for D2

JLynn9433093d ago

He just seemed very cliche. It's just one scene though. He could prove to be a good character.

Looked great, played great.. And personally didn't get any network errors which is welcome. It will be similar to Destiny 1, as in the Internet is going to cry its poor little eyes out about Destiny not being the game they wanted, while millions of other people quietly enjoy an awesome game.

masterfox3096d ago

lol of course is underwhelming, it looks almost the freaking same as the first one and yet Bungie calls it Destiny 2!?, and don't come to tell me that sequels are meant to look the same as first one nonsense!, just go and look Uncharted 1 to Uncharte2, hell even in Uncharted 3 is better looking, when creating sequels these sequels are meant to look and play better than the first iteration.

Allsystemgamer3096d ago

Destiny 2 does actually LOOK better but the problem is you HAVE to put the 2 side by side. The textures are better, the bump mapping is more improved, lighting tweaks.

But because the art style is exactly the same it looks like an expansion.

A better comparison would be halo 1 - 2. While it looks very different it still looks like halo.

Krysis3096d ago

It's a significant graphical improvement, you're not very attentive if you thought it was the same. If only one thing improved in this it was the graphics.

Joe9133096d ago (Edited 3096d ago )

You could actually tell it's not the same engine Destiny 2 looks way better and think Destiny 1 only lasted what 3 years lol how about we compare Destiny 1 beta to destiny 2 beta or vanilla Destiny 1. I wonder how many people complaining actually play Destiny at all.

phickpisseh3095d ago

trust me .. i've played 3500+ hours of Destiny and i can tell you D2 looks better for sure. But what's even more important ... it plays even better (never thought this would be possible because D1''s gunplay felt almost perfect)

This is a badly written opinion piece. He is totally ignoring the reality coming at him. 30FPS AT 4K LOOKS FLAWLESS! I realize I'm in the minority with that setup but yeah. There is more content coming in PVE than PVP and I wish people would tune into IGN for that coverage.

Allsystemgamer3096d ago

The 30fps with low FOV can make people sick. The game looks great but FP at 30 isn't good.

The FOV appears to be around 55-60. That's what gives the tunnel vision look. They should have expanded it if they were going for 30fps.

Hydrazinezz3096d ago

Ign is worthless. The game is going to play soooo much better at or above 60fps. Lol.

phickpisseh3095d ago

yeah of course it will play smoother but it will also look sterile in some way because the fast 60fps make every game look unrealistic (if you can say something like this about a game).

phickpisseh3095d ago

i bought a decent gaming PC in 2015 but coming from console gaming it was a pain in the ass because a lot of games have memory leaks and stuff nobody's talking about. I'd rather have stable 30 fps than 60fps with micro stuters or other bugs.

So it's 100% console for me

Rockstar launches official marketplace for mods

Rockstar has launched an official marketplace for "every server and every player" to buy mods: Cfx Marketplace.

I wonder how much of this isn't just taken work of others who have modded for free.

Edit: Also, great way for R* to take popular ideas and build them into GTAVI based on demand.

fr0sty7h ago

What I see happening here is, R* is going to ban mods in GTA6 UNLESS you buy them from the marketplace and R* then gets a cut of that sale.

ActualWhiteMan10h ago

Ah, perfect timing with them taking down the Bully online fan mod. Greedy a$$ company.

Christopher8h ago

It's okay as long as they get a cut of the money.

fr0sty7h ago

Expect R* to force it on you.

Snookies122h ago

Yep, right there with you. I'll happily donate to a mod creator if it looks really cool, or if I enjoy it. But expecting payment up front? Nope, not touching it.

IanTH7h ago(Edited 7h ago)

I'm not entirely sure how to read this, as it doesn't seem exactly like an exact parallel to Bethesda's paid mods shenanigans.

Rather than single player stuff, this appears to be aimed solely on Cfx Servers. From what I've gleaned, apparently Rockstar bought the Cfx mod team several years ago, coming a few years after weird contentions led them to ban a few of their members. Ultimately, the question is if they plan to keep this contained to only online/servers.

I have to guess to a degree yes. It'd be pretty hard to "force" paid mods for single player when modding files locally on your own machine, but much easier for servers they'll control. So perhaps this is their soft launch ahead of GTA6 online and they'll clamp down more tightly on non-official servers going forward? Ever since they've become a 1 or 2 property studio, I haven't really cared much for Rockstar stuff, so I'm not entirely up on everything surrounding this. Sounds like it has the potential to be problematic further down the line, but right now fairly easy to ignore...I think lol.

Kotick Made $155 million from MS in the buyout, the little b*tch needs to stop whining. Thanks to this Microslop deal and massive industry consolidation thousands upon thousands of devs and other workers lost their livelihoods. This greedy piggie pervert needs shut up and f-off.
