Talk Xbox writes: "It doesn't take a genius to realize that games have really altered over the years. Making transitions from 2D to 3D, the creation of several genres and taking explicit content to a whole new level are just some of these changes. There are also shifts that aren't as easy to notice. One of these is the single player section. Playing solo might have been the real deal ten years ago, but it's slowly become an afterthought for developers and gamers.
Could this be a sign that the single player portion of gaming will eventually fizzle or is there still life left for the solo-oriented mode(s)?"

Square Enix launches Final Fantasy X 25th anniversary site, revealing new Nomura art, books, music releases, and merchandise.
Look I know VIII has its issues and all that but how on earth can the do big anniversary events with new artwork and merchandise for VII, IX and X yet VIII got sweet f*** all.
They could have given it something during its 25th anniversary yet all it got was a single Happy Anniversary post on their social media.

A brutal reset, a smarter story, and a return to what made it great—Mortal Kombat (2011) revived the series.
15 years went by so fast. I remember playing through the story mode at launch.

Why did Sony push Shuhei Yoshida out of his role leading PlayStation's first-party games? He'd overseen some huge successes. Well, apparently, he didn't listen.
Yeah I can see that for sure. Shuhei Yoshida should have been in charge not Jim Ryan.
More confirmation that Jim Ryan is the culprit for what has happened to Sony. Hulst needs to go too. What sucks is that a lot of the good top heads at Sony are no longer there. I wish that guys that were forced out prematurely by Dumbo Jimbo like Shuhei and Layden came back.
Makes you wonder if MS even thought about hiring him after Phil and Sarah were leaving. He certainly couldn't make their situation any worse.
All the gamer/consumer lead heads are gone across PS and Xbox. shuhei gone phil's gone (questionable) but gone. The future of gaming is somewhat uncertain across the board.
It is cheaper to develop an online multiplayer mode than to develop a long single player campaign. Personally, I care much more for the single player campaign, but it seems I am minority right now.
Which means i like a good campaign. But i also like a good multiplayer. I think that a campaign is more important but nowadays if it doesn't have multiplayer Its hard for me to buy. Thats why i like resistance so much. It has an amazing campaign really intriguing story...and once you've finished it you can take it online. All games should have a long and interesting campaign topped off with a solid online competitive multiplayer if possible.
Games are moving with the times - people want multiplayer, and that's what they are getting.
The single player game still matters a great deal. This is true with fans of RPGs, which number a great deal. Not to mention, even with people like me, who play FPS games, we play for the story. I never play online, nor do I ever care for online gaming. I grew up on consoles during the 80s, 90s, and into the 21st century. Most of the games on those consoles were focused almost exclusively on a single player experience with 2 player as a second note. This was most common in fighting games. No doubt online multiplayer is important to people but the single player experience is every bit as important. People who want to be part of a story, not just running around where everyone kills each other with no other purpose. I'm one of the people who prefers to experience a great and inventive story, not one who runs around killing everything in sight.
I'm 50/50 I guess. I do enjoy a good multiplayer experience but I also love the intimacy of a single player campaign. Co-op is also great as it merges the two.
But the recent trend of primarily focussing on MP then tacking on a half arsed campaign doesn't really cut it with me. If your going to include something, I believe it should be made to the best of your ability.
