Honestly I'm glad you asked. I mistakenly read the title as "Reddit: Dev is optimizing..."

XanderZane3211d ago

The game is RedOut. The name is in the title.
This game was running at 1080P / 60fps on the PS4 wasn't it? Not really surprised it's running at native 4K / 60fps on the PS4 Pro. Don't really see anything in the game that would tax or slow the system down. Is this a sequel to Wipeout?

fatbastard113211d ago

Don't let these guys put you down for not knowing this bargain bin bound game that I too never heard of.

According to the dev, optimization like 4K and 60 frames seconds take time and they can't promise it but hey! it's no effort!
Instead of focusing on 4k for pro they should make sure that this version of WIPEOUT includes a PSVR mode like the pc version.

Obscure_Observer3211d ago

@Petebloodyonion

Lol. I see what you did there.

B1uBurneR3212d ago

Yup! Day One 4Pro purchase. Finally a game to push the limits of the system.

armchairDev3211d ago (Edited 3211d ago )

isn't that what Wipeout Omega does on the ps4 pro, running at native 4k/60?

XanderZane3211d ago

LOL!! This game and Wipeout aren't pushing the PS4 Pro at all. They both were running at 1080P 60fps on the OG PS4. Horizon: Zero Dawn is pushing the system. We know this because it's not running in native 4K / 60fps.

armchairDev3211d ago (Edited 3211d ago )

What a dumb thing to say. If this game isn't pushing the ps4 pro at all, then why does it drop to 4k checkerboarding instead of native when you turn on motion blur? Shouldn't it have all this extra power left over???

And yes, Wipeout runs at 1080/60 on the original ps4. It also runs at 4k, which is FOUR TIMES THE RESOLUTION on the ps4 pro, from a console that's only about 2 times as powerful in gpu and 30% more powerful in cpu.. So...what's your point?

XanderZane3211d ago

@armchairDev
My point is Wipeout and Redout are not pushing the limits of the PS4 Pro. If both games are running in native 4K / 60fps. The games are open world and aren't overly complex. How many hover riders are on the track at once? 5 or 6? If they had to checkboard render either of these games, that's pretty bad.

armchairDev3211d ago

Incorrect. It takes all the power the PS4 Pro has to run it at native 4k/locked 60. Of course it's not an open world, that doesn't mean the game isn't very detailed. And in order for the framerate to be locked, 60 must be the minimum. It needs to render closer to 80-90fps in reality. I'm so sick of people that have never programmed anything thinking they know better than the developers do. By the way, on the PC version of Redout, you need about a 4 teraflop gpu to be able to run it at 4k/60, just like on the ps4 pro...

ModiJi3211d ago

Crackdown 3 in SP is also not pushing x, i wonder why its 30fps...

XanderZane3211d ago

@ModiJi
I don't know what they are doing with Crackdown 3. Seems they start programming it for the XB1 and never really upgraded it for the XB1X. I'm not even sure if the gameplay they showed was for the XB1X or the OG XB1. Guess we'll find out more at GamesCom. Either way, it's not pushing the XB1X.

An Indie Game Roundup

Kinglink says "When I finished playing Watch Dogs 2, I had a list of games I wanted to cover next. But I didn’t feel right. All the games I wanted to cover were major releases. So I told myself I should find an indie game that I wanted to cover. The thing is, I don’t know if any of the games were right to cover fully in a single review due to how long it takes to make one."

Team VVV Racing Game Awards 2018: Best Indie Game

Redout is criminally underrated. More than just a competent WipEout clone, 34BigThings’ futuristic racer is in a class of its own. Controlling the craft takes skill to master thanks to the game’s revolutionary twin-stick setup controlling the pitch and air brakes independently, the sense of speed is superb, and the rollercoaster-style tracks are colourful and consistently thrilling. Redout’s intense pumping soundtrack harkening back to F-Zero GX also deserves recognition, since very few modern racing games feature original music scores any more.

After a successful Steam release, Redout Lightspeed Edition launched on the PS4 and Xbox One consoles bundling previously released DLC but had the misfortune of being released on PS4 just a few weeks after WipeOut: Omega Collection. Competing against the return of an established IP in the anti-gravity racing genre with a bigger marketing budget was never going to be easy, but Redout outshines WipEout Omega Collection in many ways, particularly in the physics department. The Italian developer’s post-release support has been exemplary too, with recent updates adding new track textures and 4K support for Xbox One X. If you haven’t yet had the pleasure of playing this fantastic futuristic racer, make it your next priority.

Take a trip to space with the Redout – Space Exploration Pack DLC on Xbox One, PS4 and PC

Carlos writes: "If breakneck speeds are the thing you look for when it comes to a good racer, then chances are that Redout won’t have passed you by. With tight corners, long straights, and super speeds within its pod to pod racing, it has everything needed to fulfil that true need for speed. If you’ve found yourself wishing for a few extra tracks however then on Redout has now delivered."
