Nintendo Switch Supply Constraints Making Console Lose Competition?

It’s really hard to find Nintendo Switch available on sale. Even if you find it, the units get sold quickly. It is a good sign that Switch is doing far better than previous consoles launched by the company, but the wait is slowly turning the console war against Nintendo. According to recent reports, despite high sales, Switch is losing ground to Sony’s PlayStation 4.

Switch is losing ground to Sony’s PlayStation 4.
^^ Do they even have any ground so they can even balance correctly ?lol, Nintendo soon will realize they were floating in a imaginative cloud and they will know sadly that the only way now is going down.

The following month Sony will keep releasing awesome games and they will keep this trend to the end of year and keep going in 2018(even more awesome!), also Sony will reduce the price of the PS4 consoles, and so what the Switch has to offer ?......oh yeah only Mario yeah more freaking Mario!!! and thats it!!! .... seriously I don't see any kind of reasoning why somebody desperately would try to get a Switch this year or even next year imo, but oh well ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ we live in a crazy world.

GameBoyColor3246d ago

Zelda, Splatoon, arms, mario, mario+rabbids, fire emblem warriors. All in the first year.

But I admit knack really did it for sony giving them a better year one over nintendo teehee

ARESWARLORD3246d ago

You can play all those games on a Wii U. The switch is an underpowered piece of junk you cannot compare it to a PS4. I feel like Nintendo did The Gaming Community a great Injustice for releasing such an underpowered system in 2017. If I ever do pick one up it will be after many price drops that is for sure.

TekoIie3246d ago (Edited 3246d ago )

@AREAWARLORD

"You can play all those games on a Wii U."

No you can't.

I don't know if your ignorant or misinformed but only BotW and MK8 can be played on Wii U. All of the other titles mentioned coming to Switch are not coming to the Wii U.

Razzer3246d ago

Switch is more powerful than Wii U. You call it underpowered and then suggest playing the games on an even less powerful dying console?

There is nothing "junk" about Switch.

zshadow3246d ago (Edited 3246d ago )

persona 5, nioh, yakuza 0, gravity rush 2, nier automata, horizon zero dawn, hell blade, knack, nex machina. mlb the show 17, Gundam Versus, gt sport, crash bandicoot n. sane trilogy, tales of berseria, uncharted lost legacy, yakuza kiwami, all in this year alone and there's more yeah Sony has better year than Nintendo and Microsoft

Servbot413245d ago

Wii U port, Expansion pack to a Wii U game, $30 game sold for $60, Looks great so far, lolubisoft, N3DS game.

Thomaticus3245d ago

The PS4 had more games on launch day than the Switch will have all year.

Switch has the same tired lineup. Another zelda, Mario kart, Mario, etc. Grown men playing splatoon is also kind of funny. Team cake vs team ice cream. Kidtendo will never catch Sony. The only place where this is a fight is Japan and the Japanese market is a complete joke. Kidtendo fans buy these same Nintendo rehashes over and over

Prince_TFK3246d ago

What do you want them to name? Team Di*k vs Team P****? Jesus christ. Have you even try the game yet before dismissing it as a kiddie game?

Oh and Japanese market is a joke? Smh.

Blueraven3163246d ago

Yea the Japanese market is a joke. The west makes better games. Only kidtendo fans think otherwise. Yea I played it. With my friend's 9 year old. It's a childish game

Razzer3246d ago

I'm 47. Having a ball playing Zelda and Mario Kart on Switch. Blueraven, I seriously hope I'm never as "grown up" as you.

EddieNX 3245d ago (Edited 3245d ago )

Splatoon is genuinely better than most online shooters. Kids play COD . Blueraven the irony is you sound very immature, Splatoon has a compertitive following of adults, Critics love it etc, youre just an A holee bro.

Fullmetalevolust3245d ago

Western developers were no where near what Japanese console makers and developers did in the mid 80's (1985 US release of the NES) when arcades (donkey kong 1981) and consoles truly took off. Everyone had a Nintendo gaming system at home (NES) or a sega master system. There were also atari , commodore and the magnavox to name a few that had decent sales, but none to the magnitude of Nintendo or even Sega.
Nintendo still has a place in this market, I love the playstation brand and the xbox brand (a bit less ,lol) but we need fun games like what Nintendo has been producing.
Nintendo allows the inner kid in us to come out and play and that's why I am always on the look out for their next venture.
Don't go calling the Japanese market a joke when their games this generation have been selling rather well and we are seeing a resurgence of Japanese games in the west again.
We'd be bored if it were for just western developers (mind you, a lot of them borrow from Japanese games and vice versa). Gaming has always needed variety.
I will say your couple of posts pissed me off, lol.

Ra3v3r3245d ago

Claims the Japanese market is a joke, clings onto his PS4 and all of its JRPGs hoping it'll give him a hug back.

If you don't like the style that's fine. My dad also really dislikes Nintendo's cartoons look but I let him play Zelda yesterday and now I can't get my switch out of his hands. He's 60.

And when did you play Splatoon 2 just out of interest?

Blueraven3163244d ago

Western developers have surpassed Japanese developers and it's not even close. Only kidtendo gamers say otherwise because western developers don't make a lot games for kidtendo systems. Splatoon isn't better than most shooters. What choices do you have other than Splatoon and watered down versions of COD? Check the top charts worldwide. Because kidtendo games. They're mainly western games selling a lot :-)

I've been having a lot of fun with mine. It was only $300. I've never understood this mentality of waiting until this and this and this and this and this and this is out before it being OK to buy something. So far I've had a blast with Zelda I'm 50 hours in to a Disgaea 5 play through. Arms was sort of fun for a while, Splatoon 2 comes out next week and a lot of their smaller games have been entertaining in an overpriced mobile game sort of way, and if nothing comes out for a month or two I don't care. I've got plenty of games to play. You have to realize the Switch isn't most people's first system. If nothing comes out for a while play something else.

yellowgerbil3245d ago

The waiting mentality is justified. For me I need a couple games that blow me away before I'll bite. With mario + rabbids on top of Zelda and also steamworld dig 2 I feel the system is worth it to me. With the x1 I still am waiting, sunset overdrive and we happy few both look good but are not enough and the waiting turned out to be the right move as Microsoft has already moved on from gaming to now just selling boxes

Krysis3245d ago

Yeah Nintendo releases awesome games too, name one PS4 game with a higher meta than Zelda.

conanlifts3245d ago

"oh yeah only Mario yeah more freaking Mario"
You missed a heap of games. Personally I am waiting for Xenoblade 2 and Splatoon 2, but everyone has their own preferences.

RosweeSon3245d ago

Nintendo going down? When there products are constantly sold out? I.e. They've made their money... Amiibos sold out mini NES/SNES sold out, Switch sold out.... have Xbox ever been sold out of anything this generation? Nintendo are going nowhere and if you think otherwise your pretty dense they make millions every single day. Zelda, Pokemon, Mario 💰💰💰 I owned a Wii u and Mario Kart 8 but still been nailing that more than my PS4 for last week or 2 love my PS4 and it's going no where but neither is my switch both great consoles and compliment each other fantastically.

Munnkyman3246d ago

It's annoying that people still can't find one but I don't think Nintendo ever thought they had a chance of ever catching Sony in sales. The ps4 has sold insanely and i think Nintendo would be happy that the switch is just selling really well.

KickSpinFilter3246d ago

Sony had major shortages also on PS4, I could not find one for months, I think I finally found one when Second Son launched

Davidgr23245d ago

They are doing it on purpose to create fake demand. They shipped only 4 consoles at my local GameStop. That was 3 weeks ago, but hey you can pre order the $500 Switch Bundle. $500 for such a underpowered console? Don't think so

Summons753245d ago

Do you have proof of this "fake demand"...no? Oh right, that's because your fake demand is completely made up. Then you are trying to cite Gamestop, the most greedy and untrust worthy company, about shipments but say they have bundles available for pre-order. LOL how dumb are you, Gamestop does this with EVERY highly sought product. During Holiday last year then never ONCE got in PSVRs but had plenty of VR Holiday Bundles available for 6-800. That wasn't Sony who was doing that, it was Gamestop.

But please try harder with your conspiracy theories. I need a good laugh.

Servbot413245d ago (Edited 3245d ago )

They do this for everything they've released since the launch of the Wii U. 3DS Games like Fire Emblem, Wii U games like Breath of the Wild, Amiibos, NES Classic, the Switch, Switch controllers, and apparently the SNES Classic in Europe and soon to be the SNES Classic in the US.

What more proof do you want? You think that Nintendo just sucks that bad at gauging demand after having this issue dozens of times, when the rest of the gaming world rarely runs out of stock for anything? Crash in Europe is the first time I've even heard of another publisher having issues.

yellowgerbil3245d ago

If they make 1mil console's and the console costs 250$ each. There is a 250mil pile of systems in a warehouse. After the failure of WiiU it makes sense that they are money contious. The factories that produce them make a certain amount, they set the amount by contract, not sure bow long a contract lasts but could be a year. With Apple competing for parts adjusting the contract could be difficult

iofhua3245d ago

This is true. It's mind-boggling to me that they might only ship 20 million the first year. For a mainline console on a worldwide release? They should have shipped 20 million the first month. They could sell 100 million easily in the first year if they manufactured enough of them. The demand is there.

They're going to be selling out every month for the next 2 or 3 years I think. No one will be able to find one anywhere because Nintendo wants to play this game with supply and demand.

I thought the popular narrative espoused by Nintendo fans was that the Switch wasn't competing against the "competition". Funny how that argument (along with a whole heap of others) gets changed every so often just so as to fit the narrative for why Nintendo aren't a loser company.

The 10th Rider3246d ago

Here's a novel idea: Different people can say different things. You don't know that the writer of this article is also someone who says Nintendo doesn't compete with Microsoft and Sony.

The 10th Rider3244d ago

That doesn't mean every Nintendo fan has to agree with them though. Did Nintendo say they're not competing with Microsoft or Sony and then turn around and say they're losing to the competition due to market constraints? Did the writer of this article say that Nintendo doesn't compete against Sony or Microsoft?

Scatpants3245d ago

Why do you hate them? Did Nintendo kill your dad?

mastiffchild3245d ago

Iwdont hate Nintendo, myself, but have more issues with them and how they treat gamers and, especially, their die had fans.

Zelda is one of my favourite series and Metroid Prime is probably my favourite game in many ways. I admire the first party stuff and accept their importance to gaming.

What I do not like is the deliberate shortages that always lead to true fans being conned by scalpers. The unseemly debacle over NES Mini is set to be happily repeated with the SNES version. Millions ere happy to buy these things yet Ninty let them down happy just for brand awareness. These are many of the people that always support Ninty, as I always have, yet do they deserve us?

Sure, its about money but there are wrong ways to do it and they consistently let consumers down this way. Hell, theres even been Switch shortages when theyre trying to build user base.

Add in the high number of ports from Wii U which we bought last year or whatever and despite sime great looking stuff coming theres still little third party support, they still have no respect for consumers and still have the best, most loyal and imaginative fans in gaming. I dont hate Ninty, I live them but need them to be a better company.

Personally, though it will hurt me some, I doubt Im willing to keep supporting Nintendo in future if they cant stop this shortage bollox. So sick of people making a quick buck off Nintys lack of respect for its fanbase.

VariantAEC3245d ago

Can't believe people are still defending these "not fake" hardware shortages.

To everyone thinking Nintendo is not holding back but is also loaded qith cash and smart as a business and capable as a manufacturer... WHY ARE NINTENDO "unable" TO MEET DEMAND?
Look at Sony selling over 1 million PS4s in 24 hours. PS4 is still selling at a rate over 1 million units a month (when looking at the current total sales and months on the market).

Switch is selling almost at the same rate as PS4 in the short term... But why is this system so short on supply? PS4 was not only meeting demand (even after a brief shortage) after launch, but has been meeting demand.

Cell phone manufacturers meet demand and can sell ten times the number of units in a month.
In the words of Reggie Fils-Aime WHAT'S WRONG WITH YOU -- NINTENDO!

EddieNX 3245d ago

Switch has done 4.2m in 4 months which is excellent, end of. its easily gunna hit 10M by march.

prankster1013245d ago

Where do you get the 4.2m figure from? All I see are stats detailing how the console is losing momentum to PS4 is Japan (a territory for where handheld machines are king). Eg: http://www.express.co.uk/en...

EddieNX 3245d ago

Splatoon, Monster hunter , Mario on the way. Its going to gain crazy momentum.

prankster1013245d ago

@ EddieNX. I don't want your hypothesizing. I want facts. Where did you get the 4.2m figure from?

EddieNX 3245d ago (Edited 3245d ago )

do your own research, you want me to me to spoonfeed u sum mashed banana as well. I believe the actual figure was just under 4.2m. Switch vs Wiiu VG charts the article is on N4G right now.

prankster1013245d ago

@EddieNX

"do your own research, you want me to me to spoonfeed u sum mashed banana as well. I believe the actual figure was just under 4.2m."

Haha... Leads with erroneous BS statement. Makes BS excuse for why he can't substantiate argument with facts.

I've come to expect nothing less from Nintendo fans who make up any old rubbish to defend their favourite company.

Servbot413245d ago

"Do your own research" = "I pulled that number out of my ass"

TekoIie3245d ago (Edited 3245d ago )

@Prankster101

Wow you asking for a source of all people?

Also he told you he got the figure from Vgchartz and that figure Is from the start of the month (June 3rd). So even if Vgchartz were off slightly the Switch would still be over 4.2 mil by now.

+ Show (3) more repliesLast reply 3245d ago
VariantAEC3245d ago

If Switch hits 10 mil by march it isn't doing as good as PS4. Not a failiure by any means but not at all selling at a rate that could cause a manufacturer of Nintendo's age and experience to still not be meeting demand which is the point of the article.
Where I live there is no shortage... But the article and most people here disagree. Fine... The question now is why is there a shortage now 4 months after launch when Nintendo is selling less than 1 million Switches a month?
Anyone have any excuses for Nintendo's hardware shortage? What? Don't bother trying to make any up! Nintendo has been playing this game too long.

THERE ARE NO EXCUSES FOR THIS "SHORTAGE".

Davidgr23245d ago

It's crazy how people forgot the fake demand when the Wii U came out. It was sold out for months, and they kept saying they are doing their best to meet demand. It's the same bs they are doing with Switch, but you can get it at QVC and Gamestop for $500+. PlayStation and Xbox are gonna wipe the floor with the Switch.

https://www.google.com/amp/...

Servbot413245d ago

Nintendo fans seem to have pretty short term memory. Shame, because if they actually held Nintendo to a higher standard this sort of thing wouldn't continue happening.

Klonoa-dreamtraveler3245d ago

welp they keep trying to push these stupid gimmicks instead of a powerful traditional home console mario and zelda wont hold their ignorance very long just like the wii u.

MrBrofist3245d ago

Wii U didn't have "fake demand".
The console had a holiday release and was fairly popular at the time so it was a little hard getting a hold of one but not impossible.
Hell, around February they were tons of Wii Us available but no one really wanted them.

Switch had more of a "soft launch" anyways so it's not really fair to compare both cases.
Also the real reason is Nintendo doesn't have access to the chips needed to make more.
Apple is gearing up for the iphone 8 which requires the same types of chips as Switch does.
Once thats sorted they will be more in production
