Former Nintendo developer Giles Goddard believes that the company is only interested in big projects going forwards, and that the smaller experimental games are a thing of the past.

Big Projects to be played on fing What ??? ...on the most underpowered console of the gen? ....limiting devs to work on 10 year old console technology ? ....i say here we can laugh all together.....

TekoIie3242d ago (Edited 3242d ago )

I know what you mean dude. Playing on PC I just look at all these tiny games being made for consoles and then I look at a huge game like Star Citizen and laugh..... /s

If you want to classify Breath of the Wild and Mario Odyssey as small projects then that's fine. Just remember that they're showing up 90% of the "big projects" at E3.

naruga3241d ago (Edited 3241d ago )

yeah yeah---> BoTW ...one huge boring monotonous grassland filled with Retro Zelda sounds just for nostalgia mansturbation ...if you consider this a masterpiece then Bloodborne or TLG should be awarded with Nobel of the best games ever

also Mario Odyssey??? have you played it from start to end and you have an opinion ?? ... from the gamepaly demos the only thing i can say is that it looks anappealing (even for a Mario game ...Why The Fk Mario on Real world??? )

D0ffy3241d ago

@naruga

Are you real? Like, I can't believe people like you actually exist in the real world? N4G keeps surprising me at the sheer level of fanboyism going around, which is one of the reasons I rarely comment anymore.

What do you get out of being that militant about an entertainment system? Sony doesn't give a single flying **** about you, like all the other major gaming companies don't give a single flying **** about any of us, so why are you so blindly following them? Actually interested to hear a serious response to that question.

You mention Bloodborne, which is in my top 5 of best games of all time. Does that mean I don't think BotW is a masterpiece as well? No, absolutely not. Does that mean I don't think Super Mario Odyssey looks incredible and could possibly become one of the best in the series? Of course not.

You see, you can actually enjoy things from several producers of games, even if they are industry rivals. I know right, crazy thinking! Nintendo is producing quality titles at the moment, which is great after the Wii U failure, and so is Sony (Persona 5 and Horizon Zero Dawn are amazing games). You'll come to understand, that when you stop fanboying so hard over a corporation who's sole purpose is to make money, you get to enjoy a lot of different games a lot more.

Can't imagine you're more than a teenager with how you act though, so things like this will come with age and experience. Just think about it: what are you really accomplishing with comments like these?

rocketpanda3241d ago (Edited 3241d ago )

@naruga,

Yeah, you didn't play BoTW, or any Switch game. Why would if all you do is take a dump on anything Nintendo related.

You're not fooling anyone. Or let me guess you watched some 10second YouTube video or saw a "friend" play it!

Go play so games instead of going online and trying to attack anything Nintendo.....unless that's your job!

Summons753241d ago

Be as salty as you want. Gameplay will always be greater than "Super Ultra Mega true 4k" graphics. It may not be top of the line but that isn't holding BOTW and Arms from getting extremely good reviews both critically and with people who are buying the games. We are all laughing at how close minded and stupid you sound.

no_ripley3241d ago (Edited 3241d ago )

lol, i bet you're a 15 year old graphics fanboy who can't enjoy real fun games.

Just to let you know ... the most top rated games are on Nintendo consoles and the future for the Switch is looking very bright because there are many top quality games coming.

Have fun with 4k 60fps Anthem with gameplay like a hundred other games :)

poor little kid.

edit: btw ... Zelda BOTW is just the best game ever!

Erik73573241d ago (Edited 3241d ago )

Well you see Zelda easily getting higher scores than any sony game receny on a under powered system so it must not be that much of a problem

Goldby3241d ago

some, including myself believe though that if Zelda wasn't attached to the game, it wouldn't be getting 10/10s

conanlifts3241d ago

I think you need to take a step back. Go out of the house. Meet a girl or guy. Enjoy life a bit. Then come back here and get some perspective about how sad your life used to be.

naruga3241d ago (Edited 3241d ago )

you comment is fing retardedly childish ....i m cringing even reading the BS you write ...its a gaming site -you dont like it?? you consider me/we who have not the money prestige to pay and support 3 consoles together Geeks , Fanboys or Nerds????? im not a fing retarded victim to buy medicorites with gloss and name them masterpieces -----simply GTFO here

prankster1013241d ago

You do realise that the Switch is meant to represent gaming on the go, right? Which means that Nintendo want you jacked in all the time. So what you've just stated is extremely retarded.

prankster1013241d ago (Edited 3241d ago )

@Naruga... I totally agree. Nintendo are a shell of their former selves. Sure, they still have Miyamoto (even if his best days are behind him). But given that the best developers want access to the best tech, no wonder Nintendo don't make the best games anymore. None of the rising talent want to work or develop games for their consoles.

And yes, Nintendo made Zelda. But given that their recent history is littered with games such as Starfox Zero, Metroid Federation Force and Animal Crossing Amiibo Festival, it's safe to say that even a broken clock is correct twice a day.

Ol_G3241d ago

But given that their recent history is littered with games such as Starfox Zero, Metroid Federation Force and Animal Crossing Amiibo Festival, it's safe to say that even a broken clock is correct twice a day.

dude those are the only bad games from the last couple years compared to how many million sellers.

Never go full retard....

MrBrofist3241d ago

So we are going to ignore Smash 4,Mario Maker, Xenoblade Chronicles X, Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze, Kirby Triple Deluxe and Planet Robobot, Fire Emblem, Mario Kart 8, SM3DWorld, A Link Between Worlds, Splatoon, Beyonetta 2, Pokemon Sun/Moon, Yoshi Wooly World, Arms, Captain Toad Treasure Tracker, Hyrule Warriors,Pokkemon X/Y, Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon....did I leave something out?

prankster1013241d ago

@Ol_G and MrBrofist

If software sells hardware, those games obviously didn't help Nintendo much when it came to the Wii U.

conanlifts3241d ago (Edited 3241d ago )

"you consider me/we who have not the money prestige to pay and support 3 consoles together Geeks , Fanboys or Nerds????? "

No not at all. Take a step back and re-read what you write. That is all i am telling you to do.

rocketpanda3241d ago

So why has the 3DS being selling so well for these years whilst Sony left the Vita out to die. The Vita a vastly superior handheld compared to the 3DS, couldn't even dent 3DS sales. The reason is people hardly care about graphics, at least reasonable and sensible gamers.

As long as the gameplay hold up, it will sell. Plus it has had consistent support for years.

In case you were aware the Switch is selling very very well, there is no cool off in sales as of yet. You can laugh childishly all you want but the system is in high demand even months after launch and third party developers will support it because the install base is growing and growing.

But sure keep laughing whilst Nintendo laughs to the bank.

Venoxn4g3241d ago

This your rant reminds me your similar rant about Resident evil 7

Razzer3241d ago

Lack of latest and greatest tech has never stopped Nintendo from making great games. Laugh all you want but personally, I'm excited to see what else is coming for Switch.

Big projects and small projects are key, Nintendo remember that.

XbladeTeddy3241d ago

They know that. Look at Pikmin, look at ARMS, look at Splatoon, Yoshi's Wooly World even Luigi's Mansion too. Apart from Splatoon none of them are exactly big projects.

TekoIie3242d ago

That's a little disappointing if true.

“I think internally they are only really interested in doing the big projects now. Whether that was since Iwata-san passed away or not, I don’t know. But they are less inclined in doing experimental things now, I think.”

I think that in some cases Nintendo has crossed a line that they shouldn't have with experimental ideas with games like Star Fox Zero and Metroid: Federation Force being major culprits.

However Im not sure what to think of the "only interested in big projects now" part. I wouldn't call ARMS a big project game. If anything I would put money on its development budget being smaller than most games.

Gemmol3241d ago

i disagree, the team of mario kart are very good at what they do, and with arms getting a year of DLC free, development have not stop

TekoIie3241d ago

"i disagree, the team of mario kart are very good at what they do"

They certainly are! But that's not the point.

Look at the scale of the tracks in MK8 and compare them to tge stages in ARMS. I don't think ARMS requires the same manpower/resources as MK8 did.

"arms getting a year of DLC free, development have not stop"

Again that's great! But post launch content is significantly cheaper to develop. DLC characters are likely going to be taken from scrapped content that didn't make it to the full game.

I'm not tryinh to knock any game here. All I'm doing is questioning whether we can say ARMS can be called a "big project title" like BOTW or Mario: Odyssey.

Dalailana3241d ago

Arms is incredibly polish. 1080p 60fps.

Definitely not some budget title.

PapaBop3241d ago (Edited 3241d ago )

I haven't played it so can probably take this comment with a grain of salt but I think he means in terms of scale. Arms looks amazing gameplay wise and looks like a shining example of what makes Nintendo great but it looks like it was made on a cheaper budget than the AAA heavy hitters. Doesn't make it a "budget title" but I think that's what he's getting at.. big projects to me are games like the new Zelda and Mario.

TekoIie3241d ago (Edited 3241d ago )

Never said it was a small title. Just that its definetly not on the scale of Botw, Mario: Odyssey or even Splatoon 2.

It's a great game and I've logged 20 hours onto it thus far but based on what I'm seeing this game definitely didn't require a huge budget.

My point of bringing that up is to question the idea that Nintendo is only focusing on bigger projects now.

TekoIie3241d ago

@PapaBop

You've nailed it.

That's for the most part the point I'm trying to make.

SirBradders3241d ago

That does not mean third party indie devs will just stop, i say let Nintendo do the big hitters and let everyone else do what they want.

TekoIie3241d ago

I can agree to that.

Indies make the majority of the best games that release these days imo and there's a good bunch of them coming to Switch this year.

sk8ofmnd3241d ago

What smaller experimental games? He isnt talking about the wiiu because that system was a barren wasteland for these games unlike all the shovelware the wii got... It has to agreed that for the first year the switch looks very barebones. Esp for someone that would like some M rated games or AAA 3rd partys.

Aquietguy3241d ago

Does this means they are abandoning the 3DS?

Look I know VIII has its issues and all that but how on earth can the do big anniversary events with new artwork and merchandise for VII, IX and X yet VIII got sweet f*** all.

They could have given it something during its 25th anniversary yet all it got was a single Happy Anniversary post on their social media.

solideagle20d ago

they should know that we are OG fans of VIII as it sold truckload as well. not as much as VII or X. I personally didn't like IX but X and VI are my personal fav.

Shadow Hearts 2 covenant is another game I love. I hope one day someone can make remake, I would be delighted
