With the Switch gaining more first-party titles, how can the Nintendo 3DS manage to cope up with it?

The Amazon-exclusive version of Nintendo's handheld console has retailed for $149.99 almost consistently since being reduced during Prime Day in July.

Pokémon Gold and Silver came out on the Nintendo 3DS Virtual Console, and these two are just as good of games as they ever were.
Never played any of these versions, but if they're as good as everyone says, I will have to pick them up for 3DS.

This image basically confirms that in Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon we will be seeing an alternate story. While it has been stated by Nintendo multiple times that this was the case, they were never really clear on it.
Why in fucks name did the designs for the mc make it through the planing stages of development? They are by far the worse thing pokemon have produced.
I think it will be relevant and stick around for a while. Some great stuff on there and I hope they don't cut support too soon for it.
I expect support for the 3DS will be completely cut off by sometime in 2019 at the latest, maybe even the end of 2018. Aside from the Metroid II remake and Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, there likely won't be any notable titles between now and then. The 3DS *might* get one more set of Pokemon games after Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon before being completely unsupported, however. If this happens, my money is on Diamond/Pearl remakes using the Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon engine, since they won't want to introduce another new generation on the 3DS. It is more likely, however, that 2018 will see no Pokemon game and 2019 will see 8th gen introduced on the switch.
I am willing to bet that at this time, they will release a new model of the Switch with more emphasis on portability and a slightly smaller price tag to attract a younger audience as well as people who only game on the go and want something that can easily fit in one's pocket. It would likely have a smaller screen, have a clamshell design with built in joycons instead of detachable joycons, and be very similar in overall design to the New 3DS XL, but without a bottom screen. It would also either come with a very small dock, or no dock at all.
It can't. The 3DS is virtually dead now, and it's time to retire the ancient, crude technology that it is built around. The 3D effect was nothing more than a distracting gimmick, and the specs are beyond laughable.
I'm unclear why these two devices get compared like they're in same category. 3DS is compact (pocket portable) vast catalogue 3DS/DS games. Switch is home console first, form factor less friendly for portability, game library still at its infancy.
Does it need to thrive of be phased out? It's been around for so bloody long so they need to drop the successor
