The Evolution of Xbox Consoles

Before the original Xbox was released in 2001, many doubted Microsoft's chances to compete in the video game console business. Up until that point, the company had been primarily a PC software vendor, and there hadn't been room for four major consoles. It also had to compete against the PlayStation 2 and GameCube at the time. Despite the initial stiff competition and several pitfalls along the way, the Xbox brand has made significant strides over the past 15 years to become a household name in the hardware world and a significant pillar of Microsoft's business. It has since sold well over 100 million consoles.

Up until that point I was a pc only gamer. I followed ms into the console race for two reasons. One the promise of online play, two I wanted MS combat flight simulator on console. However the online was just top notch and held onto me, but my number one game I wanted never came. Still waiting for that game today lol. Never regretted flowing Microsoft into the console. So many games should have followed and still could fellow if they just see what they'd still have in the vault. Other then that I'm a pc gamer.

Loved the OG Xbox for NFL 2k5, KOTOR, and Morrowind. Loved the 360 for Gears series, Oblivion, Skyrim, Mass Effect Trilogy, and all those Sega arcade releases. I'm still waiting for Xbox one to get it together. I'm not sure what kind of game will get my attention but other than the yearly sports releases I really haven't bought many games for the Xbox One. I may be just losing interest altogether. This is the first generation I haven't bought all the consoles since Nintendo vs Sega Master System.

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit20d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9220d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse
