Bought it for a fiver, played for couple hours. Thought the first world was impressive looking (just this bright, colourful world to explore).
Then the farming started and it was ok, until you start seeing the amount off X and Y you need to progress.

Got my hyper jump thing then ended on some frozen planet to do some quest and grew bored.

Sold it off for a tenner.

I didn't even bother with the massive Update.

No thanks. Gave it about 3 hours of my time and that was far too generous of me. Such wonderful potential. Wasted.

They should continue to overhaul it like they're doing, and then re-release it like SquareEnix did with Final Fantasy XIV.

The creators had every chance to say no, we cannot do it, we need more time etc etc....even if they lost their contract, money or whatever. Sure. Just like any game that tries to improve itself. Just because the game's launch was horrid doesn't mean it can't redeem itself.

Do other horrible games get a second chance? Maybe FF14, but that's about the only one that comes to mind.

I've been playing it since launch and it's awesome. After the recent updates, it's a completely different game but it's still awesome. For all the haters who write it off, well, it just sucks that they don't know what they're missing. Go play CoD or something. I'd rather you not be a part of this amazing universe.

I went back and tried it again a few weeks ago and it certainly has improved. But in the end there still wasn't enough content to keep it interesting for more than a dozen hours or so.

The game was dead 2 days after it released. All the hype for nothing. Probably the biggest letdown of the entire gen.

Well I got quite a few hours out of it before I got bored, so many bland planets got a bit tedious, I didn't even mind the grind mining part lol

Jumped back on after the update, some pretty cool improvements but im playing Horizon zero dawn and battlefield 1 mp atm so I can't see myself getting back into it, its definitely a much better experience now than at launch.

No....it's trash! These articles only pops up when an over -hyped PS " Exclusive" is underwhelming. They go to great lengths to try and elevate the Playstation ever chance they can get. No man's sky, Drivers club, The Order, sock boy, the entire 1st year of release games, including That pathetic attempt of a shooter.......oh yeah, Kill Zone, all trash! ! And SF5. Can anyone explain to me why Sony even bothers w/shooters? Do they not know that PS owners are trash at games and have no type of competitive ferver what so ever. I mean, stick to your lane and continue to make cute single player games, leave the octagon to MS and PC. Can you imagine losing to someone who owns a foreign console? I can't. Yeah I went back to it a month ago and all the free dlc is great. They've gone to great lengths to make the game better. Their biggest problem was not lying but not correcting people who lied about it.
It's a great chilled space adventure.

To be honest I was angry when I got it on day one, however now it has had photo mode and bases added as well as over improvements I still find myself going back to it.

The investigation into whether they deliberately misled people found them not guilty so people need to get over it and shut up about it.

I'd argue that they do deserve a second chance because since the game launched, rather than sit on their laurels and watch the money roll in, they've been grafting away to produce free updates to please consumers.

If I were them I'd work on a combat and mission based update, rescue missions and bounty hunting etc. That's the biggest thing the game's missing I think.

They've still hot a ways to go before they get to the stage they were advertising before the game was released...

While all the updates make the game much more engaging and are making lots of people happy it doesn't change the fact that the people that are hating on the game expected a game on a different plane of existence.

The expectations that were created by the hype machine was of some kind of deep never ending space sim. That No Man's Sky is not and never will be. Nor should it, in my opinion, strive to be that thing as it would be too far removed from it's original concept and would probably alienate the fans it has today.

Recently picked up a PS4 game and was interested in this game till I heard a lot of complaints at launch. Is this game really worth me picking it up? What were the major issues with it?

I'd try it at 15 bucks, but from what I've seen, with all of the ore mining and having to constantly manufacture stuff so you don't die, this game probably isn't my thing.

When they've added more, yes. They've made the game better since its launch, however it is one of the worst bait and switch titles that has been marketed, so, they have a lot to do.

And even if they add more content, they won't get much praise. At most, silent recognition that they kept improving something they could easily walk away from.

the biggest problem wasn't really the content controversy at launch, it was the price that it was launched at. it was overpriced and should have been 30-35$cdn TOPS. it's good that they're still updating it, but i think unless it gets online or something major, it's not gonna be picking up any steam in terms of popularity anymore.

i think so. it wasn't what we thought at launch, but i feel they learned and have made honest attempts to make it a better game.. and for free. i mean... we are dealing with a super small studio here ( i think around 16 employees total... not just devs). so they can't just assign 50 seats to a task for a month. i'd like to think they'd take what they learned, and what they ended up with and expanded on it to make a great game. i mean... when the first iPhone came out you couldn't even install apps on it but it laid the foundation for what we have today. i see this game as being similar to that.
