Does No Man's Sky Deserve A Second Chance?

Few videogames divided opinion on the scale that Hello Games No Man’s Sky achieved. Does it deserve a second chance to impress?

Why? It's a better game now then it was at launch.

Palitera3242d ago

Yet they have severe moral issues. This is the kind of company that should vanish.

_-EDMIX-_3242d ago

Thats the thing, I'm sure it is, I've heard lots of great things too, but when you lie....may don't need to come back and believe you and give you money.

I can understand of many won't return to this game. They should have been upfront with those missing features.

CorndogBurglar3242d ago

That may be true. But they made promises and didn't deliver. And whats worse is they went dark and didn't comment on it for a long time. Telling people your game is going have all these amazing things in it and then releasing it bare-bones like they did, then going silent just makes them look like liars who were just trying to get pre-orders.

Inzo3242d ago

@_-EDMIX-_

"Thats the thing, I'm sure it is, I've heard lots of great things too, but when you lie"

According to a court of law they didnt lie.

gutteranthems3242d ago

It was a good experiment, but I don't see the value in it.

CorndogBurglar3241d ago

@ Inzo

According to a court of law OJ and Kaycee Anthony are not murderers either. Whats your point?

nveenio3241d ago

I've actually started playing this game again, and it definitely deserves a second chance. I mean, look at all of the competitors out there who still haven't delivered. The game now has quite a bit more to do. It's not perfect, but few games are. I'm enjoying, and I've put yet another 20 or 30 additional hours into it after the most recent update.

peppeaccardo3241d ago

I was tempted to get on the NMS bandwagon after all these new updates at a fraction of the initial cost.
However with the advent of Elite Dangerous I think I will stick to the latter as it is almost trying to compare Disney Channel (NMS) with Discovery Channel (ED) when you are into science Fiction.
Moreover having ED "real multiplayer" is a more appealing choice.
Over and Out !

dumahim3241d ago

It'd be amazing if it was worse now than it was at launch.

-Foxtrot3241d ago

Any game after launch can be become better...it's what is at launch that counts

They dropped the ball, they should pay the price.

thekhurg3241d ago

They did pay the price. A bajillion refunds and buckets of bad press.

The price has dropped, the game has improved, and they didn't take the weasel way out and just disappear. They continued to support the game, continued to try and create content that people might appreciate and did it all at no charge.

It wasn't worth it then, but to just write the entire game off because of its launch and Sean's inability to be a proper PR person for his game/company, is rather ignorant. If it's a style of game you enjoy (exploration) then it's a very good game now.

Palitera3239d ago

^ I like the premise of the game, but it still sucks a lot even today. It is a lot of pure repetition.
Did you see 10 seconds of a "planet"? You saw it all.

About the "price being paid"... You gotta be joking. But I don't know, maybe by "paying the price" you mean "making more money than they could ever dream or get honestly", yeah, maybe they paid the price.

It absolutely does! They have added a TON of new and FREE content. Tbh, I'm not one of the people that thought a team of 4 was making Skyrim in space so I enjoyed it a lot! Played over 100 hrs and can't wait for more dlc!

CorndogBurglar3242d ago

No one said they thought it would be Skyrim in space. But when a developer comes out and lists a bunch of features that will be in the game and then it launches missing most of those features, then they get what they deserve.

"Skyrim in space" lol. How about deliver what you promised?

hulk_bash19873242d ago

Theres a difference between keeping your own expectations in check and a developer flat out lying to people.

Captain_Tom3242d ago

100% agreed lol.

Anyone who thought this was some Mega Space MMO was literally lying to THEMSELVES! They never said it would have any of the features people complained about.

Having said that, this was a $20 game sold for $60. I will happily get it when it is $9.99.

boing13242d ago (Edited 3242d ago )

Same here. I'm not exactly sure why everyone thought it's a different game then what they showed.
Moderate your expectations, people. Besides, Destiny did exactly the same thing IMO. It shouldn't be full price at launch though. That was a dick move.

Inzo3242d ago

I agree, the game is good for what it is. I still think that if it was sold at $25 - $30 instead of $60 we would not even have an article like this right now.

trooper_3242d ago

@Corndog

No, your expectations were way too high. They didn't lie.

samden3242d ago (Edited 3242d ago )

"They never said it would have any of the features people complained about."

eh, @captain_tom do you know anything that people are complaining about? There was a whole reddit thread of bullet point missing features with either promo footage showing it off or Sean Murray talking about it in an interview. He lied... a lot.

sigh, @trooper_, they lied. There is no other way to word it. Features were mentioned, features were shown off, then those features were not there at release.

https://www.reddit.com/r/Ga...

CorndogBurglar3241d ago

@ Trooper

No. My expectations were based off what was shown by Sean Murray in videos and interviews he did talking about features that ended up not being present at launch.

You think all these people just made all these things up in their head that were never mentioned pre-release? Come on. Use some logic.

XanderZane3241d ago

@Trooper
LMAO!! What?!?! Didn't lie? You are in serious denial fanboy.

Wow. We have a badass here.

On topic : yes, this game deserve a second chance. They failed, but so has the internet.

Captain_Tom3242d ago

Haha, well put!

Hello Games definitely undelivered a little, but the internet undelivered even more. This game was exactly what they said it would be, it was just not worth $60.

samden3242d ago

@Captain_Tom, how was it exactly what they said it would be?

https://www.reddit.com/r/Ga...

XanderZane3241d ago

No Man Who???
I'm done with that game. It's not even worth gong back to it.
Even Sony didn't want anything else to do with them after their game flopped.

-Foxtrot3241d ago

Yup

People who defend this game baffle me, they let us down and if it was Ubisoft or EA we'd not let it go. I don't care if they are indie, they knew what was going on and shouldn't have hyped it up (along with the lies) to us.

trooper_3241d ago (Edited 3241d ago )

@ Xander

You're only jumping on the dogpile because this game's on the PS4.
Calling me a fanboy doesn't change anything I've said and neither does using your mutiple accounts to downvote anyone who isn't senselessly bashing the game.

Cheers.

No, one of the worse experiences this gen.

yeahokwhatever3242d ago

7 Days to Die takes the cake with the greatest of ease.

TC7313242d ago

Bought 7D2D in the Steam Sale and had refunded it within 10 minutes. The movement was like walking waist-deep in water.

gangsta_red3242d ago

I never heard of that one, but it has an awesome name similar to No Man's Sky so I believe it.

yeahokwhatever3242d ago

I played for 10 minutes as well on the PS4. Deleted it. It's so terrible. ENJOY YOUR FREE MONEY, GAME DEVS.

ElementX3242d ago

I played 7 Days to Die on PC. It was fine. Got a number of the achievements and had fun. It's not the best game and I haven't played on console but I got my money's worth.

MegamanXXX3241d ago

That game frustrate me as hell

I turned it on after the update. Turned it back off after 10 minutes. Hard to get back into after the initial failed first impression.

I really liked Joe Danger. They blew it with me on no man's sky. And Sean's lies didn't help him win a supporter.

gangsta_red3242d ago

Sean Connery or Sean Penn?

softgrip3242d ago

Sean Bean?

After all, NMS died ;)

deafdani3242d ago

Sean Bean or Sean Astin?

81BX3242d ago

Little known fact... his cousin is Sean Paul.

Newmanator3242d ago (Edited 3242d ago )

Ahh as in Blu Cantrell?!

Brave_Losers_Unite3242d ago

Yes it does! Now can I get my refund?

JackBNimble3242d ago

I got it on psn sale for $20 I can't wait to play Elite Dangerous tonight. 😁

aconnellan3242d ago

Man you're in for a treat if this is your first time playing it. Elite Dangerous is such an incredible game.

Takes a bit of getting used to, and it's more sim than game at times, but hot damn is it an immersive experience

JackBNimble3242d ago (Edited 3242d ago )

Yup, first timer here. I had my eye on this one for awhile now, and the sim part is exactly what I am looking for.

I prepaid for a digital copy and I am in the west so 10:00 MT is when the game officially unlocks for me.

I am actually pretty dam excited.

txboy053242d ago

I will be on that tonight too !

oONinjavitiSOo3241d ago

Does anyone know if elite dangerous is getting vr support? Heard it might but nothing confirmed.
