How Nintendo Won E3 2017

This year's E3 was lackluster, to say the least. Most of the games that were shown were games that were already announced before, either at E3 2016 or during the time leading up to E3.

Bring it to PS5! I’ll get it anyway for Switch but I’d prefer them on PS.

Diablo 4: Lord of Hatred’s New Endgame Is All About More Freedom and Less Friction | IGN

The second expansion looks to deliver Diablo 4’s most bingeable endgame yet.

Retro19861d 3h ago

Not gonna play this game before they stop selling cosmetics in shop that looks better than drops in-game. Stupid company

Gameseeker_Frampt1d ago

Could be worse. Path of Exile has no cosmetic drops in-game but will happily sell them to you for $30 each.

Michiel198919h ago

PoE is also free and has actual good updates every 3 months and listen the community. Combined with the fact that PoE actually is for adults instead of the cookie cutter shit you get in D4, build diversity? no ofc not, on the item it literally says for which single skill the item works for and for nothing else so you're pigeonholed into a couple very specific items if you wanna play a certain build which kills all personal builds and everyone is just running with the exact same items, compare that to PoE where there's endless viable builds.

Retro198611h ago(Edited 11h ago)

I agree. I want to play, not pay. Should be enough to pay 60-80$ for a game, and 20-40$ for future dlc. No shops to buy cosmetics, loot boxes, pets etc.
PoE being free is not a good thing.
I want to find all content in-game.. would be soooo much more fun finding hard to Get cosmetics/gear and pets or other side things.
Hopefully someone gets it in the future so its possible to enjoy that genre.

Michiel198911h ago

@retro millions of people enjoyed diablo 1 and 2 where there were no chase cosmetic items, so there goes your argument. The genre has been enjoyed without that for decades so stop acting like it can't be without your made up barbie dress up game. You rolled with however the best item that you found or traded looked.

@Michiel1989

Path of Exile may be free, but it is designed completely around the free-to-play model. It is almost unplayable without buying additional stash tabs yet even after spending $60 on them you are still required to manually click on every single material you want to pick up. This is especially painful since you cannot loot good gear and instead have to rely on its horrible crafting system or buying what you need from other players (so you'll be picking up a ton of stuff with the hope to eventually turn it all into one useful item). A big part of the game is the league start and how fast players can rush through the campaign since in Path of Exile, you are required to always play through the campaign. On top of that time sink, respeccing your character is prohibitively expensive so if you want to try out a different build you will most likely have to make a new character (and play through the campaign again). New skills are tied to rng and your skills are socketed into your gear so you get to waste even more time moving skill gems around just to compare pieces of gear on your character.

I play both and like them each for different reasons. Diablo 4 is the better game that you can just pick up and play. It is in a much better place than it was at launch and upcoming changes in Lord of Hatred look good. Path of Exile is the better spreadsheet simulator for those who enjoy complexity and obscurity in equal measures and are ok with spending most of their game time on websites looking up information that could of just been included in the game. The downside that keeps me from playing PoE more is mapping gets old real quick and learning that there is a lot less build diversity than the diehards claim there is (PoE websites actually list all the content a specific build cannot do).

That's never going to happen. What really needs to happen and will also never will is the prices for these cosmetics are outrageous just for a dinky little model and needs to come down massively. It's so dumb that they're willing to price the cosmetics so high that basically only a small portion of their player base will ever buy anything when they instead could have nearly their entire player base buying more cosmetics for a more reasonable price.

Retro198613h ago(Edited 13h ago)

Whats the point playing these games if its not to chase Getting good looking gear ? That also gives you the feeling of getting stronger and better.
I can buy all these cosmetics.. but whats the fun ln looking like a complete finished character from the start. It so stupid.

Remember how it was to play wow before. Half the fun was to complete challenges and getting the sweet stuff or build it.
Or opening chests in zelda to Get that special gear.

The companys making ARPGs these days Are so greedy and only seek to make mechanics that makes the user splash money on the game like u do in gambling.

Its funny. Watching streams of these games.. oh! That guy has spent atleast 3-400$ on the game with that look! Hes so awesome! Finds new end game gear and You Cant Even see the results in the character… everyone looks like a copy of eachother. Unless you splash money on the game to look unique all the time.

Miss the times before online stores. Loot boxes. Cosmetics shops etc is cancer.

Damn, I lowkey got excited to get back into D4 because I thought the Warlock looks cool, but reading through this comment-chain is giving me second thoughts. Or actually more like reminding me why I stopped playing it back in the first place :(

Zeke685h ago

I think the Warlock will alot of fun, and if not, I will just make another Paladin. ;)
Ignore the cosmetics and just enjoy the game imho.

Retro19867h ago

@michiel1989
No it dosent. At that time you chased what was in-game and there wasent any cooler gear in a online shop that you could buy. Everything made by the designers/artists and what the hardware could handle was there to Get for free in the game when you played. And things progress and evolves from there. And the way they do it now, is ruining the experience. The designers/artist can today make awesome stuff and put it in the game.. but instead they put it behind a instant paywall. Takes all the joy we had before, the thought of «im gonna find the best and Coolest gear in this game!» is all gone.

Its just sad to see kids today grow up with this. And adults accept this. And people in the gaming industry being proud of their work ? Oh my….i would be disgusted if i was an designer on those teams.

I think the open world map approach is what kills the game for me. It just makes it boring. Even though D1-3 were "randomized" there was still a sense of spatial awareness. In D4 I really don't recognize anything, ever, and just follow the quest marker arrow telling me to go next. Meanwhile the combat doesn't feel impactful at all. For me D4 is a boring game. I feel no connection in anything I'm doing in it at any time, and I really don't care what is going to happen next. D3 was a much better game.
