Microsoft’s E3 2017 press conference - Microsoft got almost everything right

"My expectations were a bit low for this year's E3 conference by Microsoft, because MS did rather poorly last year. Well, I'm sure glad that MS was able to turn the tables, because they got just about everything right during their E3 2017 press conference =) And this is the reason why" - Jim Meldrum, TGG.

tyasia03244d ago

Your entitled to your opinion of course but the general consensus not just on N4G but on gaming forums across the internet was that Microsoft did a really poor job. And I think you could summarize that by saying they got almost everything wrong.

KingKionic 3244d ago (Edited 3244d ago )

They got almost everything wrong?

Whoa now thats some nonsense. I can understand people disappointed in not seeing other first party titles but lets stop the bullcrap please.

The reveal a system that is the most performing system on the market for 4K. It does 4K in a massive amount of titles.

With big improvements for everyone.

They showed tons of titles regardless if it wasnt all first party running in 4K. They showed how there competition can not compare.

tyasia03244d ago

What ever you say, you can go to pretty much any gaming forum and see that the vast majority of people think Microsoft show was poor.

Nitrowolf23244d ago (Edited 3244d ago )

The problem is, it was never about Power and thats what Microsoft fails to understand.

People need to understand why people were throwing the power issue at xbox one, and that was because when both consoles launched, Sony was selling a more powerful console at a cheaper price. Even when they rid the Kinect, the ps4 was still a better value.

Thats the big reason why the power argument was thrown around so much because Microsoft was charging more for less.

It was the cheaper, yet better value when it came to power at the time.

A lot of people are disappointed now, because despite having all this power it still has no 1st party games like Sony does. We are in the middle of the generation and Microsoft is still playing catch-up, only theyve neglected the one big area where both its competition are overtaking it in.

"They showed how there competition can not compare."

Because of 4k? A market that isnt entirely developed yet? Also cant compete? All they have to do is continue releasing 1st party games that appeal to people over resolution, sounds like they can compete just fine. Heck Nintendo understands this to.

All those multiplats will no doubt play better on the X, however they are multiplat and available across multiple devices.

As a ps4 and switch owner, Microsoft has given me no reason to buy their console. What it runs in 4k? Yeah i have a 4k tv and a pro thatll run those multiplats just fine.maybe not full 4k, but its not $500 worth to jhst go out and play in true 4k. Why spend that when i can either wait for the true next gen consoles or put it towards all the 1st part games switch and ps4 has coming?

3243d ago
TheGamingArt3243d ago (Edited 3243d ago )

They lacked games and focused on a new console when they should be focusing on current GEN games. Their showing was piss poor. It also clearly presented that they still have no interest in games or the gamer.

Godmars2903243d ago

"Sony was selling a more powerful console at a cheaper price."

And in part that was due to choices MS made which ended up hobbling the XB1. Building it around Kinect which continued to hurt the system even after priority to an accessory, who's key feature really was to make MS money via meta data and head counting. To the degree that Kinect was never a proven device before it was released.

And then there's the other issue of MS not regarding segments of the gaming community. To the point they seem to actively pretend it doesn't exist.

TruM06073243d ago

I liked microsofts e3 yea I was disappointed for no new AAA reveal but what they did show looked damn good. A lot of interesting deverse titles ain't that what ppl cried about in the past to much halo gears and forza and every one of those games looked stunning.

KingKionic 3244d ago (Edited 3244d ago )

I`ve seen people disappointed in first party offering that`s about it.

Your comment about they got everything wrong is greatly exaggerated. It was a good show overall.

TGG_overlord3244d ago

If MS's show was bad, then I'm curious to know what they thought about EA's and Bethesda's show (which imo, sucked pretty darn hard).

TGG_overlord3244d ago

I got the part about the lack of first party offering (s), and I agree with that to 100%. However, I don't agree with the statements that the show was 100% crap, because that's a far stretch for sure.

Littil_Devil3243d ago

EA and Bethesda did a much worse job than MS did. However, I still think that the MS show was a mixed bag.

3243d ago
Bigpappy3243d ago

It will take some people a little time to realize that X1X will be and what was shown running on it, we're the things that left the biggest impression from E3. That to me is a win for M$.

Anthem, Metro, Assassin's Creed, Best version of Madden and many other 4K offerings will go a long way.

Anthem looks to be game of the show already and many will associated it with X1X because that is where it was revealed and how sweet that game looked and played.

UnHoly_One3243d ago (Edited 3243d ago )

MS did have a bad show. They revealed the X1X, but beyond that, there wasn't much to get excited about.

I thought it was easily going to be the worst of them all, but then Sony managed to be even worse.

They both sucked. Bethesda sucked, too.

Ubisoft was the only good show.

It's a +2,000 word long post, and yet you whine about the choice of the headline? Poor job? Really now? I'm not even a Xbox user, and still I got quite excited about the stuff that they show cased. So what would be a fair score then? 3/5, 2/5?

tyasia03244d ago (Edited 3244d ago )

I wouldn't give it a score. I would just say they failed to do what they needed to do. The goal was to show a new console which they did but then they failed at showing why people should buy it. And I feel like they failed in a most ironic way that should have been obvious to them. They are trying to prove that X can do all these fancy graphics but then they show low poly indie games. It should have been obvious that was the wrong thing to show. And it's not that the games were bad they just weren't games you need a $500 dollar console to play.

Then there was the fact that most of the games they showed were timed exclusives many of which are already on PC. And by not showing any new first party games they really left an important unanswered question. What comes after these four games that they have been showing for years? People criticize Sony for showing games in advance, but that is really important for fans. I know of at least two dozen retail exclusive games that will be coming for PS4 in the next 18-24 months. That is a HUGE reassurance that my investment in PS4 will pay off.

So that's my reply.

Bruh3243d ago

@tyasia0

Think Microsoft did a much better job showing you why you want to buy their mid-gen upgrade over the Pro. The Pro literally showcased like 2 games utilizing its hardware lol in the end this isn't a new generation of console. Its iterative hardware for the enthusiast. Meaning someone whose either heavily invested into gaming or always itching to buy new tech

TGG_overlord3244d ago

That's Jim's OP, not mine ;) I would say that it's a 3/5 show at least (I'm a PC gamer, Jim is a Xbox user). So, what grade would you give MS E3 event?

ChipdiddyChip3244d ago

Speak for yourself, I was impressed with what Microsoft has to offer and I will definitely be buying the X1X with a couple games they announced when it releases. This website gets worse by the day, so many PS fanboys on here spew out negatively towards Microsoft and Nintendo just to make themselves feel better, its pretty sad really because it harms the gaming industry.

What gets me is the massive lists people post before E3 for what will be at Sony's conference . . . Then after Sony fails to show half that, they go on to say that Sony clearly won E3 and that Microsoft's was terrible.

People were saying Death Stranding would be there, Knack 2, The Last of Us 2, Dreams, Grand Turismo Sport, Sucker Punch's new IP, Bloodbourne 2 or another From Software game, Crash Bandicoot, Shenmue 3, Final Fantasy 7 remake, Hellblade, and others. On top of that people expected God of War, Days Gone, Detroit: Become Human, and/or Spiderman to hit this year. We didn't get solid release dates on any of those

Even I expected them to show a few of those and was surprised that they didn't.

Microsoft showed Sea of Thieves, Crackdown 3, Forza 7, State of Decay 2, and Ori and announced the Will of the Wisps

Sony showed Spiderman, God of War, Uncharted the Lost Legacy, Days Gone, Detroit: Become Human, and announced the Shadow of the Colossus remasater.

Microsoft announced Metro and Anthem

Sony announced Monster Hunter World

Microsoft showed a lot of indie titles

Sony showed a lot of VR titles.

Basically Sony had the edge when it came to first party titles, but Microsoft did a better job with release dates. Microsoft had the edge with multiplatform titles. And other than that it depends on if you like 4K and indies or if you like VR. The conferences were very comparable.

OB1Biker3243d ago (Edited 3243d ago )

Knack 2 and GTS were shown ten minutes before the official conference with release dates haha
Jeez gaming communities are getting more childish everyday. Na that dont count...
We all know what happened
one show was like
EXCLUSIVE (loud voice)
game
EXCLUSIVE (loud voice)
game
etc
the other conference had no exclusives at all
except for shawn layden saying twice here is a true exclusive to end the show

The 10th Rider3243d ago (Edited 3243d ago )

Majority of people who watch the conference don't watch the pre-show though, and that still leaves a large list of major titles people expected that didn't show up. On top of that the major titles that they did show had no release dates and all looking to be 2018 or later titles. I stand by my statement that the conferences themselves were pretty comparable, even if Sony did show some stuff during the pre-show.

OB1Biker3243d ago (Edited 3243d ago )

'the major titles that they did show had no release dates and all looking to be 2018 or later titles.'
' conferences themselves were pretty comparable,'
Wait a minute.
so you compared
Games that had the longest demo. Thieves and Spiderman
Thieves was announced ages ago, looked umm fun maybe? and gets a 2018 release.
Spiderman gets incredible demo was announced last year and get a 2018 release. So a tie I guess???

Most expected big hitters, Crackdown and GOW
Crackdown was announced in 2014 gets a definitely meh 20sec demo and gets a date for this year
GOW was announced last year, gets an incredible and beautiful demo. Release date early 2018. So a tie but with the narrative Sony games are far far far away from releasing after reveal.

State of decay vs Days Gone
Forza vs Detroit ?
etc

what a joke

also its not new. E3 is not just about a conference. There are tons of announcements. only on gaming communities I see people just compare conferences. Its ridiculous

AAWELLS093243d ago

"Your entitled to your opinion of course "

As are you. I always crack up at people who say this and then go on to tell them they're wrong about their opinion.

Bronxs153243d ago

Disagree. many in the industry were let down by Sony.

tyasia03243d ago

Uh well ok, this was a discussion about Microsoft and it started before Sony even went on stage.

Movefasta19933244d ago

My issue with the press conf was the fact that other than forza 7, none of the games they showed look like they are taking advantage of the x. They needed to show big new ip, they have nothing that can compete with a Spiderman, tlou, gown ect. I wanted to see fable 4, ryse 2,lost o2 ,a new shooter ip .

TGG_overlord3244d ago

That I can agree on. So that was a poor move by MS for sure.

Yohshida3243d ago (Edited 3243d ago )

They have no games that can compare to Sonys Single player Story driven games, which is 100% true.
But they have racing and multiplayer on lockdown, Sony has nothing that comes close to that.
Sony also has japanese games on lockdown, which you failed to add.

I myself found both conferences underwhelming. Spiderman didnt do it for me, its mostly qte and ms showed a lot of timed indies that I could mostly care less.
My Highlights would be Cuphead, the last night, ashen, og Xbox bc, shadow of the colosses, days gone and Metro.

Condemnedman3243d ago

metro and anthem looked great what did Sony show that looked better?

SirBradders3243d ago (Edited 3243d ago )

They are not exclusive though so your comment is void brah.

Did the announcer screaming 'Exclusive' in his deep melodramatic voice fill your head with magic?

Condemnedman3243d ago

so they don't count because they are not exclusive? you guys are unbelievable.

UnHoly_One3243d ago (Edited 3243d ago )

Yes Condemnedman. The people on this site only play exclusive games, and nothing else counts.

What is the point of playing a game if you can't laugh at the people that aren't able to play it, am I right? /s

UnHoly_One3243d ago

You think all of those games would look like that on a standard Xbox One?

Seems like all the MS haters suddenly think the original X1 is a beast. lol

Did you watch that conference in 4k by chance? Even if you didn't I don't know how you can say that Metro or Anthem didn't look like they was taking advantage of the X1X.

SirBradders3243d ago

They was shown on a PC when there both done expect downgrades.

Smoke and mirrors all over again. What I meant by not exclusive is that I guarantee most of sonys first party lineup look better than Scorpios so again a game looks as good as the effort the deva put in to it.

@Gaming_Cousin "It was a bad show"
- So, what grade would you give it then? 2/5?

Gaming_Cousin3244d ago (Edited 3244d ago )

Yes because they added the stupid "exclusive" on almost every game which is misleading. They had zero AAA exclusive announcements something that has never happened before. They were misleading people by saying how much exclusive games they have when they were mostly indie games AND those games are coming out on other platforms. My most hyped game was Crackdown 3 and wanted to be blown away by the physics and the trailer turned out to be utter shit. The price is good for the hardware, but overall terrible because of the software.

TGG_overlord3244d ago

That sounds like a fair and balanced response to me. So I guess that MS has a lot of home work to get done after this year's E3 is over.

TGG_overlord3244d ago

@Gaming_Cousin "Bethesda was the worst"

- That I can agree on, then EA (imo).

TGG_overlord3244d ago

- I see, yes, that's fair critique for sure. True, so they got a lot to work on with no doubt. I'm actually having thoughts about buying a PS3 slim and PS4 pro myself :P Anyways, I get where your coming from. So you got a valid point. I guess I didn't quite see it like that while watching the show. Then again, I wasn't 100% sure if I had seen it all either. As they uploaded more videos to their Youtube account shortly after their E3 event was over.

dveio1d 4h ago

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing1d 2h ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Tanktopmaster921d 3h ago

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit1d 3h ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing1d 2h ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster921d 1h ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse

Tanktopmaster921d 1h ago

Let me be clear. This is sarcasm
