Sales and not power is what the Studios care. They want sales and who is the number one with huge diference? Sony.

Not doing a marketing deal with a 60+ millions user base would be just stupid. Its just business. EA, Bungie, Activision, ubisoft and so on arent stupid. They want more sales, to get more Money.

ElementX3145d ago

I really don't think console owners need to be told which games are coming to their console. I think the idea behind this marketing is to push more hardware, not software. Consumers who don't have a next gen console will see the ads and think they need a PS4, which is not true for multiplats. I am against these types of marketing deals, personally.

EatCrow3144d ago

I wouldnt say theyre out of touch. They are offering BC whereas the competition not only laughs at it but doesnt seem to want to put it in the future. Now THAT is out of touch.

Scatpants3144d ago

Of course that's assuming the consumer is completely in the dark about how video games work like someone's grandma or something. Most people shelling out $400 bucks for video games probably know whats going on better than that.

Cryptcuzz3144d ago

@EatCrow

While having BC would be nice for the occasional trip down memory lane, Sony instead focused more on PS4 games. Third party games with exclusive deals and content, backed-up by their own first party exclusive games proves that it is resonating with gamers in general. The competition (Sony) is doing that and it works, as they hold more than 50% of consoles sold this gen. Now if you don't follow suit and do the same (at least try to), that is the definition of losing touch of what gamers want. I'll take new games over BC all day, every day.

indyman77773144d ago (Edited 3144d ago )

This is actually the answer to the blind question that people ask. LET me repeat the question, here goes: Why does it matter to you how many consoles a company sales. Does it affect you personally fanboy? Remember that question?

The answer is what you GET on your system is determined by units sold. Which is why you should care. Will FFVII be on xbox one? No. In fact hundreds of games will not be. Just like PS2 era when it had 5,000+ games, and xbox had 1000+ games not to mention the timed exclusives. This is why it matters.

Skull5213144d ago

Since its reveal the Xbox One has done nothing but listen to the community and improve constantly. "Out of touch" is not at all the way to describe it.

All the marketing MS needs is: The place to play the best version of multiplatts on console is Scorpio. Best promo possible as we saw with PS4 during the first 2 years. There is no need to burn money and they will invest it in infrastructure and 1st/2nd party instead.

UCForce3144d ago

Okay, remember how much Xbox 360 sell better than PS3 ? A lot, thank to third party support. So it wasn't just First and second party.

Gwynbleidd3144d ago

@UCForce
And what played the best version of the multiplat games? PS3 or XB360?

notachance3144d ago

"Best promo possible as we saw with PS4 during the first 2 years"

Dude it was MS that heavily throws price cut and bundles at us during the early years

Dragonscale3144d ago

Think you'll find ms needs more than that. Popularity is defined by games, not power alone.

ger23963144d ago

If you own a Scorpio and a 4K television.

Scatpants3144d ago

If they don't market some exclusives I don't give a crap about a very slight bump in graphics. They're going to have to offer me more than that before I even consider a Scorpio. As of now they've shown me nothing to convince me I would want to buy it.

WelkinCole3144d ago

You will have to buy a 4k TV if you don't have one already and then a Scorpio for 399 plus not including a game. Hard sell to mass market gamers that are now left after 4 years as most core gamers already have a PS4 or X1.

Dark_Knightmare23143d ago (Edited 3143d ago )

lol oh yes the ms will now start investing in 1st/2nd party in their third gen of consoles prediction smh. Ms as to be the dumbest console maker of all time if it took them three gens to figure out you need 1st/2nd party content

DarXyde3143d ago

I don't think the power advantage enjoyed by Sony these past few years is the reason for PS4s success, so much as it was a great bonus. The simplest explanation I can offer is they have something for everyone. Historically, the most powerful platform rarely, if ever, outsells its competition. It comes down to what you offer in terms of investment. It must go beyond power. Umbrella Corps, for instance, in 4k at 60fps is not going to make it a great game. Likewise, Persona 5, in all its cross generation simple visual glory is a phenomenal game. Power isn't the issue. If Microsoft is serious about competing, they need a new angle, it's that simple.

They never should have worried about waiting a year to deliver a powerful console (and it has VERY respectable power). They could have just beefed up the One S a little more and really spent all that time focusing on first party games.

They really messed up when they allowed 4 things to happen:

- They let Pro release an entire year before Scorpio.

- They let Sony enter 2017 with this monstrous lineup and nothing to compete.

- They let Sony be the sole console provider of VR for a year.

- They're releasing Scorpio around the time Nintendo is releasing a Mario game.

It is a mistake to throw so much emphasis on power, but I think Microsoft will have a great showing at E3 and a crazy fall lineup. They need it to really show off Scorpio. Because if they don't, this build up would be a serious waste of time.

vallencer3144d ago

Eh I think both play a part. I remember that sony was going to put 4gigs of ram in their ps4 until studios they talked to said they needed 8. So don't act like power doesn't play a part. Especially when technically the ps4 is more powerful than the x1. Studios want a powerful console. They also want a good amount of sales. I don't think Scorpio is going to fly off the shelves but it'll definitely have the power down.

IGiveHugs2NakedWomen3144d ago

Developers also want to sell their games to as many people as possible and PlayStation is the only console on the market RIGHT NOW that has proven, worldwide appeal.

vallencer3144d ago

@igivehugs

Either you're trying to disagree with me or agree. I'm not sure. I did say they also want a good amount of sales. Which would imply that yes they want to cater towards ps4. However on the flip side if the power of Scorpio turns the tides then they'll get more 3rd party marketing. I really am just baffled by your comment.

Yohshida3144d ago (Edited 3144d ago )

Game attach rate is what studios care about. Wii showed us sales could be good, but dont matter if noone uses it and buys games.

yeahright23144d ago

It's a combination really. wii has awesome sales but low attach rate. Vita has an insane attach rate but low sales. both struggled with studios.

3144d ago
PFFT3144d ago (Edited 3144d ago )

Yeah they care about sales, their game sales that is. Cause at end of the day XB1 and PS4 games sales are almost always on par with one another. Despite the PS4 having a larger use base. What they dont really care about are console sales. They dont care if Console A is selling more than Console B. Besides developers like us fans we dont benefit from the money that each and every company makes from console sales. Developers prefer power over EVERYTHING and ANYTHING. The more console resources are available to them the better. And Scorpio will have that for them in spades. And Sony knows this so thats the reason why they started with the so called, "partnerships." Fear is what drove them to purchase DLC exclusivity. Fear is the driving force. No if's or buts about it.

Maybe after the sale success of the PS4, Sony has more money to spend for partnerships, or maybe Microsoft decided to market Scorpio more instead of giving the money to other companies. Regardless, I think marketing multiplatform games towards specific consoles is a disservice. If a game is on multiple consoles it should be made obvious to consumers

AspiringProGenji3145d ago

Marketing deals are not a disservice. They are just that, marketing. It is the same game across all platforms

ElementX3145d ago

I didn't like the partnership with Microsoft and previous CODs, either. I owned a couple on both platforms.

NeoGamer2323144d ago

Marketing is a disservice. Every dollar spent on marketing is a dollar not spent on game, platform, or console development.

Consoles and games should be bought and not bought based on their benefits, features, and merits. Marketing is not a benefit, feature, or merit for any given console. It is an attempt at brainwashing the gamming community into believing your product is better than someone else's.

UCForce3144d ago

The thing is third party partnership is not go anywhere. If one of three major publishers (Sony,Microsoft or Nintendo) who lead gaming market, third party developers and publishers will follow.

meka26113144d ago

Nah it's just that sony has always been the type to just throw money at companies. Yes microsoft does it also but sony is worse. They spend millions advertising multiplatform games which is strange, throw tons of money at companies for exclusive dlc, and also funding games that don't have the money for console exclusivity. Both companies throw money around, but sony spends just very weird considering how their movie division is doing.

andrewsquall3144d ago

Except it's DLC we get for free, when Microsoft does it, it's exclusive DLC YOU have to pay for every single time.
Which leads to the question, even last gen, was Sony ever giving the publishers much? They did some awesome free DLC stuff last gen too but they never had much money to do so. Why are they giving tonnes of money for it now?

mkis0073143d ago

Sony has to do what it can to survive vs Microsoft. PlayStation is keeping Sony in the green. Which Is why Sony really delivers year after year.

Chevalier3143d ago

Except if Sony's partners generate sales on Playstation platforms, not only do the 3rd party company benefit, Sony makes more profit as well. So how is Sony making more profit a bad thing? Its the sustained revenue and growth that allows Sony to get more money to spend on their own studio games too. You can't really have one without the other.

IGiveHugs2NakedWomen3144d ago (Edited 3144d ago )

Console gaming is a multi-billion dollar industry and each of these companies is competing for the largest slice of the cake. They are not concerning themselves with what you believe is or isn't consumer friendly when it comes to advertising and marketing. These companies are not your friends.

Rude-ro3144d ago

I am pretty sure that any third party game Sony has advertised shows all console boxes at the end. Microsofts advertisements for third party games always ends with the Xbox console and green color.

Chevalier3143d ago

@Neo

"Marketing is a disservice. Every dollar spent on marketing is a dollar not spent on game, platform, or console development. "

So by that logic then Xbox having already so few marketing deals these last 4 years should have the most games then right? So where are the studios and games?

+ Show (3) more repliesLast reply 3143d ago
Automatic793144d ago

MS is going to build more studios. In order to do that they have to cut cost on these third party marketing deals. It's simple we ask for it. Now we going to get it. I personally more first party blockbusters.

UCForce3144d ago

Really ? What if Xbox One was number one marketing in first place, would you say the same thing ? Thing is third party support will follow one of three major publishers if one of them are at number 1 gaming market.

Razzer3144d ago

Microsoft, I want a new car.

PSN_ZeroOnyx3144d ago

Tell that to the studios M$ already closed.

Condemnedman3144d ago

Sony close them too don't be that person

EatCrow3144d ago

Sony closed some too.. Perhaps less marketing deals couldve helped maintain them...

UCForce3144d ago (Edited 3144d ago )

@Condemnedman and @EatCrow Well, at least these studios closed by Sony have finished their game. Microsoft closed Lionhead and canceled Fable Legend and canceled Scalebound. Thing have changed, you two. Don't be so dramatic about it. You two need to get it with the time.

Why o why3144d ago (Edited 3144d ago )

The analogy I'll use is culling 5 from 20 has less of an impact than culling 5 from 10. Look at the output of both then continue with that 'Sony too' if it makes you feel better... the actuality is there for all to see...or not in regards to certain projects

+ Show (1) more replyLast reply 3144d ago
Scatpants3144d ago

I'll believe that when I see it. They're going to have to do something soon because most people just see it as a Halo Gears Forza machine and that's not going to cut it for me.

Sony Remade Demon’s Souls, So Why Won’t It Touch Bloodborne?

The Outerhaven writes: Bloodborne is still one of PlayStation’s most beloved exclusives, but it remains trapped on PS4. Meanwhile Demon’s Souls got a full PS5 remake. But why?

theouterhaven.net
thorstein12h ago

Demon's Souls was a PS3 game.

Bloodborne is PS4 and can be played on a PS5.

There's no need for a remaster.

Relientk779h ago

I completely agree with you on this. If you want remasters or remakes give us games from the PS1 or PS2 era like Legend of Dragoon.

Eonjay4h ago

I would say thats a personal oponion trying to be passed off as a law. Truth is thre are many people who would love a remaster.upgrade so they can play Bloodborne at 60 FPS. People would literally love that.

shadowhaxor6h ago(Edited 6h ago)

I mentioned that in my article, did you read it? I literally pointed out this is exactly why the game is still doing well, and why Sony has zero reason to remake/remaster it.

And there are plenty of PS4 to PS5 remaster/remakes, to counterpoint that.

Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered
GTA V Expanded & Enhanced
Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut
Control: Ultimate Edition
Death Stranding Director’s Cut
Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade
Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection
The Last of Us Part II Remastered

Eonjay4h ago

Either because they technically can't because From Soft wont allow them too, or because From Soft is sorking on the sequal, remaster themselves. Therre is a third option of course and that would be that they are working on it

MinnesotaFatts1h ago

Some part of me wonders if there's some sort of corporate war going on at Sony.

Daver4h ago

I want a new one not a remaster

victorMaje3h ago

TLoU got the remaster & then the remake treatment.
Where is the next bloodborne, or remaster, or remake?

Goodguy012h ago

What it needs is a ps5+pc release. The game absolutely needs a 4k60 update. Lots of money sony is sleeping on while the souls genre is still hot.

MinnesotaFatts1h ago

Tell me you don't know what a remaster is without telling me.

Bloodborne is infamously capped at 30fps on either system--a bizarre design choice given that speed and reaction time is central to the gameplay systems. This capped performance was never patched out officially, unless you jailbreak and mod your console. A remaster for modern hardware, not the infamously finicky PS4 devkits, would be a great way to both hyper-optimize the game *and* drive sales for the PS5, which still doesn't have a system seller title.

RaiderNation6h ago

There might be some licensing red tape they cant get around?

shadowhaxor6h ago

That'd be interesting, but Sony owns the IP 100%. So, I can't see how that is part of the issue, if there is even one.

RaiderNation2h ago(Edited 2h ago)

Maybe Sony isnt interested in doing it without the assistance of Miyazaki and he's not interested? (Just spit-balling).

MinnesotaFatts1h ago

That's the issue according to FROMSOFT. They'd *love* to do a remaster, but Sony won't even return their calls.

Inverno6h ago

Because they're saving that for the PS6 to lure in all the suckers that will think they're making a sequel, but the whole gen will pass by and From won't ever touch it because Song doesn't care for either Demon or Blood outside of remakes.

Furesis3h ago

Because they made them do something else, then they canceled it and who knows what they are doing these days. They dont understand what they have and honestly i dont think they know what they are doing either.

blacktiger3h ago

How bout forget remade and start making new game pls?

Wow! Both Switch 2 and PS5 DE bump in sales! Congrats on both of them. And 300k+ units a week is insane! Considering Christmas rush should be ended already. And all top 10 best selling games are from Nintendo.

Update: Sorry, this is a 14-day sale, not 7 days.

italiangamer1d 8h ago

A month ago they sold 221.000 Switch 2 in ONE week, and Nintendo still hasn't fully resolved the stock situation in Japan 👁️👄👁️. Imagine after they have fully stocked it.

repsahj1d 1h ago

For comparisons sake. Between january to march 2025, Nintendo stock also dropped below 9k yen.

Neonridr1d 8h ago

313K in 2 weeks.. almost 10x as many PS5s

Japan loves the S2 it seems.

repsahj1d 1h ago

It shows even in games. Nintendo dominate the top 10 best selling games.

Neonridr1d ago

I mean Japan is Nintendo's playground, so no surprise there. Just crazy to think that Japan alone has accounted for nearly 50% of all Switch 2 sales or something

babadivad16h ago(Edited 16h ago)

Because Sony abandoned Japan. The Japanese have a preference for mobile consoles as well.

repsahj10h ago(Edited 10h ago)

#26 Ghost of Yotei - 1,415

Top 30 only game for Sony, even the multiplatform games are not selling there.

dveio2h ago

That's truly something, I agree.

I'd be really interested to read somewhat of a survey or something as to why Japanese gamers don't like to get into the Playstation ecosystem anymore.

I would love to read an assessment from Japanese gamers.

repsahj58m ago

I also wondering why. Is the 7M+ PS5 owners just stop playing?
