PC Aficionado: "While a F2P model isn’t bad, the idea that developers can constantly reconfigure their games in attempts to gain more players ends up hurting the consumer. Devs are now very easily able to crank out mediocre titles that are poorly optimized (I’m looking at you ARK), hiding under masks of Early Access, pre-order bonuses, and Kickstarter campaigns.
Games switching to F2P awhile after release is just an extension of this. My suggestion would be to create an irresistibly good product instead of using cheap thrills and theatrics to sell a product that is no longer relevant."

The charity event will be streamed live from Gamescom in August.

Xbox Game Pass Ultimate is getting cheaper but Call of Duty is leaving day-one access. Here’s what we think the price drop means for Xbox, PC Game Pass, and the future of the service.

Tech4Gamers writes: "A PlayStation Support assistant has confirmed that the 30-day timer implemented by the new DRM policy is part of an update and isn’t a bug. While responding to a fan’s query, PS support revealed that all games purchased digitally after March 2026 will be affected by this time limit.
If your PS4 or PS5 does not connect to the internet within 30 days, the game’s license will expire, and it won’t launch on the console unless the connection is restored. Hence, every digital game you purchase from now on will require an online check-in, or else you will lose ownership."
That is wild lol. Steam already does this for some games depending on the developer...but man...all digital games on ps5...
This has to be a mistake.
“Received word from an anonymous insider. The Sony DRM issue is unintentional. From what we gathered, Sony accidentally broke something while fixing an exploit. They've known about the confusing UI for a while, but didn't see it as urgent. Hoping for a clarifying statement now.”
The screenshot from the article is from an AI chat bot, there are plenty of screenshots floating around from actual human chat reps stating the opposite.
It this is real then I will never buy digital again and if the PS6 is digital only then it will be the first Playstation Console I wont buy
"Games will vanish" is click baity as hell...all you have to do is log in and the license is restored.
I don't know what it is about this website but every time I click to follow the story I get sent to a broken site. Is it just a Firefox issue?
On topic (since I can't read the full opinion) I disagree with the ending statement. Battleborn was, by all accounts, a very competent product. It's only real mistake was competing directly with Blizzard's Overwatch. There was no way Gearbox and 2K could stand up to the hype and brand loyalty of Blizzard and their accessible hero shooter. From what I understand, Battleborn was still a rather enjoyable.
Without a player base Battleborn slowly died off. What making it free to play would do is inject some life into the game not in an attempt to "sell" the game, as the author states, but push a service. Yes, games like Evolved did this and failed but Evolved suffered from a great deal of ill-will beyond the game. Battleborn offers enough of a different experience to Overwatch and other shooters to at least be looked at if it becomes F2P. It's a good option and there's really nothing to lose for both players or the companies who made it. I understand the fear of companies pumping out early access trash with the promise of updating later but I don't feel this idea extends to Battleborn which was already a complete game when it released.
battleborn is its own problem
Battleborn is a good game and it keeps getting better.
It has infinitely more replay value than Overwatch any day of the week.
The problem with BAttleborn is not Battleborn its the company behind it. Gearbox has isolated its fans on anything NOT Borderlands. On its own merit, it holds up just fine.
