I guess we're completely opposite. I've had a sense of disdain towards the 360 controller but at the same time I played with it well enough. The only controller that I couldn't stand and could not play with was the Big Bertha original Xbox controller. The DS3 actually works very well with me. Guess the anatomy comes into play when using controllers.

I agree. I prefer the Xbox controller for my hands. I'm not a fan of the r1 and r2, they make my wrists hurt, their kinda awkward. Especially on shooting games.

I was really disappointed to find out that Sony was not going for a re designed dualshock controller for the PS3.The analog sticks are placed in a far less optimal position than the 360's controller and are way to soft.

I prefer the addition of triggers replacing the L2 and R2 but they still feel tacked on and awkwardly placed.

The PS3 controller only scores top marks for its fantastic D-pad.Apart from that i really don't like it.Personally i feel they should have gone with a new design.

Just move that left analog stick to a more comfortable position. Everybody copies everybody. There's no shame in doing it.

I hated the PS3 controller when i first got the machine but use it for a while and you get used to it, Dualshock3 is far better than the standard Sixaxis though.

I LOVVVEEEE MY PS3, HATTTE the Controller, if you play for extended periods of time, your bottom 2 fingers go to sleep, my finger also slips off of the trigger (r2) (l2) and its annoying, plus you never know if a game is going to use r1 or r2 and the fire button! ANNOYING

I prefer the PS3 controller for the simple reason: Shape of the analogues.

I don't actually rest my thumbs on top of them, I tend to push and pull them from the sides, the convex PS sticks, tend to cut in to my thumbs less. Both controllers are, at least, usuable.

this sort of thing is getting so obvious now it's not even funny. from now on i urge PS3 fans to note that when the press starts churning out negative crap about the PS3, there is always a big game or great news for PS3 in the offing... in this case it's LBP followed by MS2 and RFOM2. it's no good saying 'but it's a dev' think about how he was questioned. there are so many journalist now that manipulate their intervewees in such a way to get what they want. i always feel good when this sort of thing happens now, it means something great is coming to PS3.

people will prefer certain things; i've never liked any of the Xbox controllers. They're bulky and the D-Pad is AWFUL. I personally think the D-Pad problems on the 360 outweigh the PS3's trigger. I've never had a problem with the PS controller's trigger. But again, this is just my preference.

with the thumb sticks where they are its kinda like rolling a joint when your using both of them. Seriously though i prefer the 360 pad but its really a personal thing, I didnt mind the ps controllers on ps1 and ps2 but I had smaller hands in those days, now i find they dig into my palms and the triggers are too slippery. Ps controller is better for driving and sports games 360 pad is better for shooters. I have both so I just choose games geared for the controller.

Well a few months ago he was slagging off both controllers, referring to them as "space ships" I think, he believes there are far to many buttons and they're not "pick up and play" enough for the masses.

Either way, controllers are a matter of preference, I can use either just fine.

The Dual Shock 3 is about as perfect as game controllers get. The soft analogue triggers are easy on the fingers as well. My only complaint with the 360 controller is that the L1 and R1 buttons are just a tad too slim. But other than that, it's great as well.

it's always a matter of taste and if Cliff likes the 360 controller more it's ok. it won't change that i always prefered the Playstation controller. i think the sticks are better for aiming in shooters and the d-pad is better for fighting games.

The 360 controller has a slightly better grip (if you don't have girly hands) and its triggers work better, but other than that the PS3 controller owns... Buttons, analog sticks, orientation, weight, USB re-chargeablility... All these go for the PS3 controller.

I actually agree with him...it's too small and the stick placement drives me nuts. The "triggers" are a joke as well in my opinion. It's the only thing holding me back from getting a PS3...well that and the price.

The PS3 Controller is just a little to small, if they would make it a little bigger, not much i'd play more games on it

Simply because xbox360 is a fps console. Ps3 is different. It has many variety of games, type of controller is not an issue. Thats why i prefer ps3.

I had a 360 and all i can say is that there is nothing special of the 360 controller IF you are a true gamer you can adapt pretty much to any controller in the market. And the WHOLE controller hate is only and excuse for his inability to code for the PS3.

I agree.. partly. I don't hate the PS controllers, but I don't love them, either. To me, the 360(and xbox1) controllers are much more comfortable. But, that's just my preference. Neither controller is bad by any standards.

But, the two biggest things for me with the PS controllers are the positioning of the analogs and the controller size. I can deal with the analogs, but I wish they'd make the controllers a tad bit bigger. I have big hands, that's one of the reasons I prefer the 360 controller.

The only controller I've actually hated was the N64's controller. Ha.

I had a ps2 for awhile and enjoyed the heavy feel to it and it worked out for Onimusha and GTA. But the ps3 controller now is SOO damn light it feels like you can break it if you sqeezed to hard you can't deny that, but I guess rumble is coming back..whenever that is. That's why I prefer the 360 controller. Perfect for FPS's and other games. It just feels A LOT better than the ps3 controller.

Why is it that we know so much about the backend of games nowadays? Message boards are always arguing about the heads of the big 3 console makers, what Kojima said, what Itagaki says, what Igarashi says, what Bleszinski says, what Newell says, what Carmack says, what Jaffe says, the list goes on and on. When talking about the directional-pad (D-Pad) I find the PlayStation 3 / Nintendo controllers to navigate more correctly. I have big hands and for first person shooters I can use both the PlayStation 3 and XBOX 360 just fine. I just can't use the XBOX 360 for fighting games because I use the D-Pad to fight no the analog stick.

As for the PlayStation 3's trigger buttons people must be pressing them too hard. I find both the XBOX 360 and PlayStation 3 to work just fine and technically speaking the XBOX 360's controller is similar to the Dramcast's.

Cliff Bleszinski is an idiot for saying he hates the PlayStation 3 for the controller. He's worse than Gabe from Valve Cooperations. The more I hear Cliff talk the more I think he's scared that Insomniac will beat him in sales and reviews. So attacking the controller is all that's left, lol.

I mean, the Playstation controller design has been around for 13 years+ and the overrall design really hasn't changed that much at all.. Did Cliffy B. not play on a Playstation console before now or what? Anyone that's a gamer his age more than likely has played on some sort of Playstation console whether it was a PS1, PS2 or on both.

I love the Playstation controller design. The Xbox 360's controller is basically designed for shooters, but the PS3 controller is good for all games in my opinion, and at least the PS3 has a functional D-Pad.

is the best ALL ROUND PAD. The analog sticks on the 360 are better but the quality gap between it and the ps3's analogs are no way large as the gap between the D pads where the ps3's one outshine the 360's ones by a country mile. Each to their own i suppose but the ps pads have all the bases covered including motion control and presure sensitive buttons ALL OF THEM not just the triggers.

I've played games since atari and I've had all sony consoles but they should have thought the design of the PS3 controller a bit more. It feels good for games like LBP and most platformers, it does have the best Dpad of all but for FPS games it sucks. The best controller for any FPS is the 360 controller.

Ive been trying to get a controller ala 360 for my ps3 but so far Niko is the best choice and I'm not to sure about it. If anyone knows of a good controller to substitute the ps3 one please let me know.

Pretty much the sole reason I dont buy games for the PS3 is that the controller is a chore to use.. I mean unless you are a 12 year old girl or an elf its just to small. it's like im trying to play on a gamecube controller and the positioning of the sticks is god awful. Who the hell at Sony was like oh harrow rets make a thumb stick that is convex not concave and lets make it out of slippery rubber! yay!

As a owner of both ps3 and 360, I have to say I also think the 360 controller is better, but it all depends on what types of games you play. My breakdown goes like this:

PS3 controller:

pros:

-supreme d-pad
-good face buttons

cons:
-internal battery
-poor analog placement
-poor placement of triggers/bumpers

The controller is not all bad, and for some games is actually better than the 360 pad. However, playing shooters with this controller is a problem for me. For me, the analog sticks are way too close together, which causes me to hit my thumbs together all the time. On top of that, they have rounded the tops of the analog sticks, which for me, makes it much easier for my thumbs to actually slip off the stick, or making me reposition my thumbs while playing games. Also, the triggers are not placed well enough to where using all 4 of those shoulder buttons is comfortable. Again, I have to constantly reposition my hands while playing.

For playing 2D games, or fighting games, where the dpad is actually useful, the dualshock wins. Unfortuanatly in this generation, we only get a very few amount of fighters, and bionic commmando and megaman 9 are only a drop in the bucket to the others that come out with full 3d environments.

360 pad:

pros:

-all buttons are accessable without repositioning
-better placement of analog sticks
-indented tops of analog sticks to prevent slipping
-external battery
-headset jack on controller
-better ergonomics

cons:

-crap d-pad

I really cant think of much else about the 360 pad that bothers me. Everything is placed well, and for me, the left analog stick should be placed in a position of dominance over the dpad. About 12 years ago, when Sony designed their "current" pad, the dpad was the dominant input device for most games. Times have indeed changed, but Sony's pad has not. The 360 pad excells in every way except that terrible d-pad.

All of what I have stated above is my opinion, but I am not alone. Every one of my friends that own both consoles agree with me on this as well. When it comes to shooters, we are just a lot more precise with the 360 pad. What Cliffy stated is his opinion, as what I have stated is mine. He is making shooters guys, and not the next street fighter, or 2d remake of a classic game.

If you have both consoles, you may or may not agree with me. If you are a sony fanboy, then you probably hate me and will start flaming me for it. I am just being honest here. To me, in a 3d game, especially shooters, the dpad is best used for weapon selection, or menu access. That being the case, it should be placed under the left analog stick, and not above it.
