Is Destiny 2 Screwing Over Steam Users?

Is hosting Destiny 2 on Battle.net instead of Steam a bad idea? Or could it be good for everyone?

Anyone who knows Activision saw this coming. They have a fresh IP for PC and they have their own client system that's been successful for them for all of Blizzard's games, might as well keep it locked to your platform and take that extra 30% of revenue.

indysurfn3285d ago

Yeah they are getting screwed! But I think I heard them moaning about how much better it feels on battlenet.

kevnb3285d ago (Edited 3285d ago )

I wonder why they never put call of duty on there? I bet with a little extra attention to the pc version marketing this years version could be quite successful for them.

Pandamobile3285d ago

Call of Duty has a history with Steam and an active player base.

It's not like Steam users can't still use battle.net. It's one of the actual advantages of PC, that you aren't locked into a single store front or infrastructure. People who want to use steam will have to deal with it, as Steam isn't entitled to everything just because they're the biggest. This is like asking if EA and Ubi are screwing Steam users. The answer is no. Those people are still free to use steam, just can't purchase the game through steam.

Sorry but I would hate this game to run off steam. Battlenet so simple an sleek an it's out of the way.

All my core multiplayer games are on battlenet so it's more than I could have wished for with destiny 2.

BishopPeace3285d ago

core multiplayer games such as heroes of the storm /s

Thunder_G0d_Bane3285d ago

WoW, Diablo 3, Overwatch, Hearthstone kthxbai..

BishopPeace3285d ago

There are literally 6 games on battle.net, as good as some are i wouldn't call them the core multiplayer games. But you said your own games so i digressed.

leeeroythe3rd3286d ago

Is wow cheating valve? Pack sand and go steal from indie companies steam

Poroz3286d ago

Screwing me? I just will not buy the game. It's that simple. I use steam everyday, I use blizzards launcher,,, never. The choice is simple for me.

Maxor3285d ago

Because clicking on icons is hard right?

slate913285d ago

Are you kidding me? Skipping a game because you have to open a different FREE application? Your loss.

orakle443285d ago

Seems silly that you wouldn't buy a game because its on battle.net and not steam. I mean how in any way is it an inconvenience that its on bnet?

Kornholic3285d ago

I recommend you read this and then reconsider your position on Steam.

Axel-Foley3285d ago (Edited 3285d ago )

I read that article and was shocked! I guess I never thought of Valve/Steam that way. I buy most of my games straight from the developer if possible but most of my other games come from steam. It's a shame they are just another bloody corporation.

rainslacker3285d ago

Can't you launch these games from Steam still? It may not actually run through steam, but I thought they had a feature to still luanch games from Steam still.

Your logic confounds me. What's so bad about having to start another program? back in the day, we had to make separate boot discs to run our games. You got it easy nowadays where you can just click icons, and it'll probably work fine. You got it even easier since you can start multiple applications from a single program. But how is starting Steam, then clicking your game, any different than just clicking the icon of the game you want to play from your desktop?

Honestly Thank Goodness!! Yet another good sign of a possibility of returning to what made them great and undoing Jim Tyans trend chasing love service gamble. Still gotta wait and see just what direction they're going but this is a good sign in my book that they're not betting it all on live service anymore

S2Killinit106d ago (Edited 106d ago )

Not sure what you lot are talking about anymore. They need to cover all range of games. Im primarily a single player gamer, but even I cannot be daft enough to ignore the fact that we need all manner of games including live service games. Everyone here seems to be a market expert.

isarai_lee106d ago (Edited 106d ago )

Yes "all manner" not just exclusively live service like Jim was doing, but you also shouldn't be forcing devs to make games they not only have no experience making, but also flatout dont want to do.

S2Killinit106d ago

Assuming that anything like that is actually the case and not just a perception of n4g commenters of course.

Redemption-64106d ago

I don't understand why you people have to keep making up lies. You can say you don't like some or most of their focus being on live service games, but to say they were exclusively focusing on live service games is pure copium. At most half of their games were live service and the rest were single player games. Seriously why lie about something so obvious?

isarai_lee105d ago

@Redemption-64

You say that as if we don't have word directly from Jim Ryan and PlayStation stating they wanted at least 12 live service games released within a year. Followed by tons of official word of those Live Service games being cancelled after he was pushed out. All studios combined at the time PS had 15 studios, 12 is a hell of a lot more than half of 15, and it was definitely their primary focus evident by the fact that a huge portion of their studios have taken uncharacteristically long to release or announce anything since, hell some studios have yet to release anything this gen almost 6 YEARS LATER! The only one making stuff up is you.

It may take a while but maybe they are finally learning. Good! Now stop with the live service crap.

ABizzel1106d ago

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with a live service here or there, but to have many of your studios start focusing on it when there has been little to no experience among them was wild.

Christopher106d ago (Edited 106d ago )

They say this and then immediately release news of the Horizons co-op game that will definitely be a Live Service game.

isarai_lee106d ago

I feel like they knew that given the fact that the very furst thing they say in the trailer is to reassure they still make so games 😆

vTuro24106d ago

Bet they're regrettings spending those billions pretty hard right now.

S2Killinit106d ago

Destiny has been a huge success.

Redemption-64106d ago

They will not. Destiny has been popular for over 10 years, something most games can never hope to achieve. Most people, including myself those Bungie was going to make a D3 after the final shape DLC. Marathon looks to be a hit and a D3 announcement could break records.
