More evidence of forced parity on consoles.

rocketpanda3278d ago

PC requirements has nothing to do with partity. If you make the requirements insaney highly then that cuts put a lot of players who can't afford i7s and high end graphic cards.

More evidence of someone who wears a tin foil hat.

hiredhelp3278d ago (Edited 3278d ago )

Tbh take from me the recommended i7 9/10 is marketing ploy unwarranted from someone who had plenty i7s and i5s as a primary Gamer first not much in it for the price performance. Any game built to run on mid range pc optimised well is a game that deservs your money and devs support.
My rigs I build over the years tend to been high end money saved from i7 to i5 spent on better vga

joab7773278d ago (Edited 3278d ago )

I understand this and why it's done this way. They were shown on medium settings at the reveal. But if it was shown on medium settings on a PC and ran beautifully, are we really ready to conceded that none of the consoles can run at 1080/60? I don't buy it!

Aenea3278d ago

What forced parity?

Don't believe the BS some idiots are spouting...

slate913278d ago

Destiny 2 looks exactly like Destiny 1 from 3 years ago. If you don't think they can get that game at LEAST running 1080p 60fp on the pro/scorpio then you are kidding yourself.
I don't ever bash a developer because I have 0 experience in the field, but come on. Their engine needs serious revamping if that is the case.

Aenea3278d ago

@slate

Yes, their engine needs revamping, they need to use the CPU less for things the GPU can be used for, which would mean it can run 60fps even on PS4 and X1 just not in 1080p. And on Pro and Scorpio they can go above 1080p, especially with techniques like checkerboard rendering...

But to just add such a mode for Pro/Scorpio users and do all the work in the engine for it (also GPU compute code is not portable between nvdidia/amd on PC nor between Xbox/PS4) would be rather unrealistic to expect.

Maxor3278d ago

The PC version that was shown was quoted as running "uncapped frame rates" as in above 60 FPS. Some Youtubers which played the game mentioned that the frame rate of the strike must've been around 100 FPS since the gameplay was exceptionally smooth.

So if the PC can hit triple digits FPS then why can't the Pro hit 60 FPS? I fully expect the Scorp to hit 60 FPS as well.

LAWSON723278d ago (Edited 3278d ago )

Simple fact, desktop CPUs shit all over that jaguar mobile chip. They stated the bottleneck that limited the fps was the CPU not GPU.

This CPU issue has been brought up countless times and is the main reason the Pro fails to raise PS4 fps.

joab7773278d ago

While this is true I will never believe that it can't run a 4v4 at 1080/60. No way! B1 does it!

LAWSON723278d ago (Edited 3278d ago )

@joab

BF4 does not run at 60 fps on Pro, it is a unlocked fps that barely hits 60 especially in 32vs32.

Different engines give different results. Odds are a decade old Halo engine is not as optimised as Frostbite 3.

krypt19833278d ago

@lawson bungie is not using the halo engine thats clearly priority property owned by Microsoft hence the reason destiny don't have theather mode or custom games built in, destiny 2 is built on a whole new engine why else wouldn't we be able to carry all our shit over, and the devs have said time and time again the game is built on a new engine to erase limitations the legacy consoles held on the first game, you guys say the game looks the same but it performs better and the color palette is totally different, you can tell the difference in the partical effects when you throw a grenade use your super etc, and destiny 2 has drivable tanks more physics destiny 2 wouldn't be possible on the destiny 1 engine haters..

joab7773278d ago

This is exactly the point I am making with my original post. These were on medium settings too and everyone said the difference was so obvious. How is it that we cannot have a choice b/W 1080/60 and 4k? Unless it's being forced on us for parity?

Aenea3278d ago

Ah yes, tinfoil hat indeed!

We don't have choices, should be so easy, therefor it is forced parity! No other reasons can exist than that! /s

Bungie said that THEIR engine uses the CPU for lots of calculations for AI, physics, particle effects, etc. This means that for THEIR engine the CPU is the bottleneck.

They can move it to the GPU and achieve 60fps which will then affect resolution and/or visual fidelity, PLUS it is only something they then have to do tons of work for a selectable mode that only PS4 Pro and Scorpio users can select of which not all users will choose this mode. This means that for a very small amount of the install base they would need to put in a lot of work. Sound sensible to you?

Though I have to agree they still should have done it AND then run the game ALWAYS at 60fps on consoles, lower the resolution on PS4/X1 to the 720p-900p range, lower visuals a bit and run it at a smooth 60fps. On Pro and Scorpio they could've used checkerboard render techniques and achieve good looking higher than 1080p visuals.

They decided not to.

But please, stop with the nonsense and think, there's no paid for parity...

meatnormous3278d ago

They will not allow some to be at 60 fps and some to be 30 fps. But I am wondering what they are going to do with the scorpio cause that should do 60 fps no problem. The cpu in all the consoles are terrible and most of the work has to be done by the gpu.

Aenea3278d ago

Except Bungie said they do all AI, physics and particle effects on the CPU...

This means that Scorpio CAN NOT do 60fps for THIS game...

GreenUp3278d ago

Were they playing on 100hz+ monitors? Can't notice fps higher than 60fps if the monitor is at 60hz.

steveo1234563278d ago

Your comparing a Skoda to a Bugatti

cartoonx13277d ago

was the spec of that pc known? what if it had sli 1080ti? also there is no comparison between latest PC processor and console's mobile jaguar.

TheColbertinator3278d ago

Vicarious Vision is handling the PC version? Suddenly this is worrying me.

Maxor3278d ago

These guys are D level devs that Bungie is not outsourcing too, no. They're partnering with them LOL.

MazeRunner3278d ago

a 1060 will be able to run this 1080p 60fps no problem.

meatnormous3278d ago

As it should. I hate when a game comes out and makes the mid range cards tank frames. I have my trusty 980 ti that cost me 650.00 and I get pissed at anything below 60 fps. I'm not gonna buy a 600 gpu every 2 years, its just unacceptable.

Aenea3278d ago

Because there's also a better CPU in there which this engine needs......

Asuka3278d ago (Edited 3278d ago )

Going to be using an rx 580 for ultrawide (2560×1080p) freesync at 75hz. Should be more than enough for medium-high settings.

ARESWARLORD3278d ago

RX 580 is a beast you'll be more than fine

meatnormous3278d ago

Is the 580 just a rebranded 480? Was thinking of getting one for my sons pc.

Asuka3278d ago

it is but slightly improved upon with better power efficiency, and slightly faster out of the box factory OC's. Overall...it is an rx 480

GreenUp3278d ago

It's a console port though. So hopefully ultrawide will work for us.

Haki11123278d ago

they already confirmed 29:1 support

Honestly Thank Goodness!! Yet another good sign of a possibility of returning to what made them great and undoing Jim Tyans trend chasing love service gamble. Still gotta wait and see just what direction they're going but this is a good sign in my book that they're not betting it all on live service anymore

S2Killinit95d ago (Edited 95d ago )

Not sure what you lot are talking about anymore. They need to cover all range of games. Im primarily a single player gamer, but even I cannot be daft enough to ignore the fact that we need all manner of games including live service games. Everyone here seems to be a market expert.

isarai_lee95d ago (Edited 95d ago )

Yes "all manner" not just exclusively live service like Jim was doing, but you also shouldn't be forcing devs to make games they not only have no experience making, but also flatout dont want to do.

S2Killinit95d ago

Assuming that anything like that is actually the case and not just a perception of n4g commenters of course.

Redemption-6494d ago

@isarai_lee

I don't understand why you people have to keep making up lies. You can say you don't like some or most of their focus being on live service games, but to say they were exclusively focusing on live service games is pure copium. At most half of their games were live service and the rest were single player games. Seriously why lie about something so obvious?

isarai_lee94d ago

@Redemption-64

You say that as if we don't have word directly from Jim Ryan and PlayStation stating they wanted at least 12 live service games released within a year. Followed by tons of official word of those Live Service games being cancelled after he was pushed out. All studios combined at the time PS had 15 studios, 12 is a hell of a lot more than half of 15, and it was definitely their primary focus evident by the fact that a huge portion of their studios have taken uncharacteristically long to release or announce anything since, hell some studios have yet to release anything this gen almost 6 YEARS LATER! The only one making stuff up is you.

It may take a while but maybe they are finally learning. Good! Now stop with the live service crap.

ABizzel195d ago

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with a live service here or there, but to have many of your studios start focusing on it when there has been little to no experience among them was wild.

Christopher95d ago (Edited 95d ago )

They say this and then immediately release news of the Horizons co-op game that will definitely be a Live Service game.

isarai_lee95d ago

I feel like they knew that given the fact that the very furst thing they say in the trailer is to reassure they still make so games 😆

vTuro2495d ago

Bet they're regrettings spending those billions pretty hard right now.

S2Killinit95d ago

Destiny has been a huge success.

Redemption-6494d ago

They will not. Destiny has been popular for over 10 years, something most games can never hope to achieve. Most people, including myself those Bungie was going to make a D3 after the final shape DLC. Marathon looks to be a hit and a D3 announcement could break records.
