Nintendo Asking Third Party Developers To Release Games as Early as Possible

Nintendo it seems is trying to learn it’s lesson from the Wii U. Nintendo aims to deliver on their promises of first and third party software being delivered in a  timely fashion to the Switch.

Yeah better get those 3rd party games out there. Skyrim, Fifa, Stardew Valley anyone?

Antnee5343307d ago

I would rather madden, but I might buy fifa then sell it to a friend just to support it so maybe we can get more sports gmes

freshslicepizza3307d ago

Nice, Nintendo tells them to hurry up while they release games like Mario Kart and others with some online features missing and Switch fans waiting.

Prince_TFK3307d ago (Edited 3307d ago )

@moldy

Still doesnt prevent it from getting 90+ on metacritic and become one of the best racing games this year right?

Your point?

freshslicepizza3307d ago (Edited 3307d ago )

@Kun_ADR
"Still doesnt prevent it from getting 90+ on metacritic and become one of the best racing games this year right?"

A re-release you mean. I guess my point was a bit too complicated for you, Switch was obviously rushed to get out the door seeing as how little support it has gotten so far and features still not ready. So it's a little ironic we have Nintendo asking for developers to release games as quickly as they can while Nintendo is trying very hard to spread their titles and using remakes to keep it from looking like there isnt much game support. People have been asking Nintendo to release more systems since they sell out right away, again showing their incompetance to have enough systems ready. Even the WiiU version of Zelda was hard to find in the beginning. Now they cancel the NES classic because they have to prioritrize things, meanwhile they announce the 2DS.

_-EDMIX-_3307d ago (Edited 3307d ago )

Lol

So you would make a purchase to misdirect the market?

By actually purchasing something to try to falsify numbers or misrepresent a market all you actually do is confirm to a publisher that such a market doesn't exist when those games actually don't continue to sell in the first place.

I mean what are you going to do? By four copies of one game and continuously pretend you're five people?

@moldy- agreed.
@kun-I'm sure it's absolutely a great game but that's kind of irrelevant to the point ,the reality is a large portion of features that should be day 1 are still absent.

So asking the third parties to bring games as soon as possible seems a bit hypocritical.

At this point they should be thanking your lucky stars any third party is supporting it so I don't believe they're in a position to be demanding anything

Beggars cannot be choosers in this respect.

Sm30003307d ago

Fuq everyone that down voted this. Yes antnee, Im right there with you. A broad array of sports titles will be killer on the switch. Madden on the go, yes please.

bouzebbal3307d ago (Edited 3307d ago )

3rd party games need online features for the most part.
nintendo, hurry up releasing exclusives and not only wii u ports.

If they can get the core third party games like fifa It will be fine. Most people are getting this system for exclusives and Indies.

When you get a ps4, sure get over Xbox cause you like exclusives better, but you get it more for third party games than you would a Nintendo console.

I see many people who get a ps4 and don't even touch it's exclusives. You can't really say that for people who own a Nintendo console. It's unheard of.

Razzer3307d ago

I'll take the exclusives for Switch and PS4 gladly. Guess I'm one those *few* people you don't "see". /s

bluefox7553307d ago (Edited 3307d ago )

The reason you don't see people get a Nintendo console and not touch the exclusives, is because those are the only games available. You're not really helping your case.

_-EDMIX-_3307d ago (Edited 3307d ago )

They are already not getting the bulk of third-party in the first place ...

The fact that FIFA the only Electronic Arts game is extremely troubling..

Most people are purchasing it for exclusive and Indies because that's actually the only thing that even showing up on the platform in the first place..... so how could they purchase it for a concept that's not even represented on the platform?

Soooo it sounds to me like most people are purchasing it for the games that are actually showing up because I think they already understand that the market for those AAA games don't even exist on that platform.

I mean why would somebody purchase the switch to play the likes of Battlefront 2 or destiny 2 when there's no evidence that any of those games will show up?

I mean the fact that the majority of people or purchasing this understand it is simply for its "exclusive" sort of confirm they already know the market for Triple-A multi-platform games will not be represented on that platform...

I mean you have to consider were talking about entire franchises that have never even touched a Nintendo platform.....

@Razzer- well, that's sorta the point.

@Blue- exactly

Of course I own my PlayStation 4 to play great Games published by Sony but clearly that does not mean I'm going to not play Red Dead Redemption 2 or Call of Duty or shadow of War etc

Chevalier3307d ago

That's why even though I own all the systems PS4 and Switch will get most of my time. They both offer far more quality exclusives.

TheOttomatic913307d ago

Jesus your dumb the numerous exclusives are a big reason why people pick the PS4 over the XB1 (not that owning either is a bad thing). It's also the main reason people are buying Switches.

rainslacker3307d ago

Well, it doesn't hurt to get more games the same day as other consoles, or have more games release earlier, so I can't say I fault Nintendo for asking for publishers to consider them as equals. Nintendo, in more recent generations, has often been an afterthought to publishers with their bigger releases, and that only deflates reasons for more people to get the switch.

Just because switch may appeal to a certain segment now is no reason to not want to capture other customers by trying to get support for more games as soon as possible.

3306d ago
InTheZoneAC3306d ago

Wii u had several great exclusives yet no one bought them

Stardew is fantastic. Hopefully starbound comes as well

nitus103307d ago

Releasing a game early usually means that you are eventually going to get patches which may get to be problematic if the patch has to be stored on the main internal storage which out of the 32GB will be approximately 25.9GB http://www.nintendolife.com...

Of course, 25.9GB may be fine for patches of indies and some first party games over the lifetime of the console/handheld unless patches can be installed on the cartridges. Buying an indy game on a cartridge is going to be dearer than buying the same game on either the PS4 or the XB1 although you could also download the game but then you have the problem of 25.9GB being available unless you purchase SD cards.

Prince_TFK3307d ago

I am really waiting for Stardew Valley. Been wanting to play that game on the go for awhile now.

deathtok3307d ago

Speaking of... time to politely ask 505 Games on Twitter for a Collector's Edition. PS4 and XBO got one so hopefully Switch will too.

Prince_TFK3307d ago

I didnt know it has a CE. I would buy one if its available for the switch. Please ask and let me know the result!

MetroidFREAK213307d ago

I personally might be purchasing NBA2K18 since they announced the Switch will have the special editions. I haven't played a basketball game since NBA2K2 on Dreamcast

Gemmol3307d ago

meet me online i will be the first to beat you online, and I do it out of kindness :)

XanderZane3306d ago

Nintendo is telling 3rd party to hurry up because Nintendo doesn't have much for the system this year. I'm sure next year we'll see a lot more of Nintendo's exclusives and game announcement. There also isn't a whole lot of 3rd party games on it either. At least not anything that games are eager to play.

Back in March and April there were gamers paying up to $2000 on EBay for a Switch. The demand was huge. Now I check EBay's sales and the system is selling for even less then $399. Will see what sales are like for June & July.

Better open that coin purse, Nintendo.

potatoMax3307d ago

lol! Proabbly and sadly true

PlebeGamer3307d ago

I really doubt it. At this point NOT developing for the Switch will be like cutting your own coin purse. It's going to be big, and have a massive audience.

_-EDMIX-_3307d ago

@ple-it's going to have an audience that caters to a single publisher.

There's a reason why you were not seeing the likes of Call of Duty or Mass Effect or Battlefront or anything like that on the 3DS or Wii U.

Too weak and the install base doesn't even purchased those type of games I'm sorry but the market for those games has already established on Playstation Xbox and PC.

The vast majority of people who purchased those games already have a place to play them.

Ask yourself this, who are purchasing the switch in the tunes of millions waiting for the division or wildlands or destiny despite multiple series having zero history on those platforms?

The millions that want those games have already established themselves on other platform.

The audience is not there for the series to even make sense

That's why you're not seeing more Call of Duty or Battlefield or anything like that running on the iPhone.

Having millions doesn't necessarily mean those millions are going to be purchasing your property or if your property could even run on those devices etc.

I mean you would have to consider one of the greatest selling games of all time right now with Grand Theft Auto V has not even touched a Nintendo Platforms.

Trust me they're not losing any money being absent from that platform any more than they would be losing money from not appearing on the iPhone or the Oyua lol

Different markets pal.

Unless you're going to go yell at every game publisher for not supporting Oyua 😂😂😂

Sure.

We've had multiple series go on to break ridiculous records all while never touching any of those platforms.

So yes, kept telling yourself that.

_-EDMIX-_3307d ago

It would be such a waste anyway.

If you have to pay for it clearly means it's not coming your way so what I believe they should do is spend that money to reinforce their first party.

CrimsonPheonix3307d ago

Lay off the Haterade.
I wouldn't have bought Call of duty on Wii U, but the Switch is a different story.
The hardware itself is the killer app that lets you play a game at any moment you choose and that's something PS4 and Xbox don't have.

_-EDMIX-_3307d ago

@Crimson-Whos hating?

In my personal opinion I don't see it necessary to spend the money to a company that doesn't even see it beneficial for themselves to produce the game on their platform if Nintendo has a focus primarily on selling their system to sell their own games I believe they need to reinforce that concept by spending their money on building better teams possibly purchasing teams if they're available in on other properties they could build in house.

No this is not a different story than the Wii U ,the switch is literally in the exact same position that the Wii U was to the Xbox one and PlayStation 4

it is weaker..

So yes the switch has something that the PlayStation 4 and Xbox one doesn't, so did the 3DS, so did the PlayStation Vita ,so did the DS, so did the Gameboy so did every other portable in history of Gaming...

That didn't suddenly mean we stop getting console games.

I believe those teams have their own markets on other platforms and every single Generation all that's happened as that's been reinforced more and more so when you're seeing titles like a battlefield Battlefront Dying Light the division ,wildlands, Call of Duty, for Honor what have you, all get created on other generation systems all it does is reinforce that install base you're talking about a base of Gamers for each of those series might be in the ballpark of 10 to 20 million Gamers that have all made their decision to buy a PlayStation or an Xbox or a PC to experience Not Just Call of Duty but the other third-party games that have to offer they're not going to stop purchasing those to purchase a portable.

If they were ever going to do that they had multiple generations to actually do that but because the switch is not receiving the exact same games it's no different than the 3DS not receiving the exact same games or the DS or any other portable for that matter.

You need to understand being more powerful than the Wii U doesn't mean it's equal to the Xbox One or PS4.

InTheZoneAC3306d ago (Edited 3306d ago )

Your previous post mentioning nintendo is fighting a lost cause is my post of the month and needs to be stickied to every Nintendo article that's mentions 3rd party support.

Nintendo chose the direction they're in, it is too late for them to ask for change from others not in line with their path. Nintendo must provide more 1st party games if they want to stick around for another console generation, or release a similarly spec'd console when PS5 and XBtwo release...assuming we see another xbox .

It's common sense, but you can see lots are lacking

_-EDMIX-_3306d ago

@InTheZone-- Thank you!

The way I see it is many Nintendo fans on this very site have kind of made it clear that they're only purchasing it for Nintendo exclusives. Nintendo has already catered their entire fan base to purchase the games they publish by always actually making a system underpowered to not even receive the type of games appearing on other platforms.

I don't believe this is an accident as all they would have needed to do was actually simply make a traditional console.

Wow Nintendo does not want to make a traditional console and if that's the case I don't really think they actually want third-party support because they've had so many opportunities to make a system to receive that type of support in the first place.

I believe Nintendo like their position as the number one publisher on their platform as it allows them to make more money with less competition so I don't really believe in their eyes it's a really a real problem.

If that's the case I don't really believe Nintendo needs to spend money trying to get third parties to put games on their platform simply because if you would have to buy this type of support it's only temporary in the first place it is just a complete waste of money and I believe the best thing they should do is spend that money to reinforce their first party

If that's why gamers are buying Nintendo systems that should be the reason behind Nintendo's Focus behind first party I don't really believe they should even spend a dime on third-party timed games

Consider when Sony was getting beat by Microsoft 2005-2006 they could not stop series like Final Fantasy Grand Theft Auto Tech and or anything like that from going multi-platform the wheels have already started to turn.

It would make no sense to even try to waste the time and money to get Grand Theft Auto or Final Fantasy or anything like that to be timed even at the least simply because it would always inevitably make it on their competitors platform anyway.

In that respect the best thing to do is double down on your first party and they went on to purchase, sucker-punch Gorilla Games ,Evolution Studios and a whole bunch of other teams.

This is what I believe Nintendo should be doing right now.

I haven't seen any argument that really make sense to say they should not spend money on their first party and instead spend it bargaining with third-party but already have other install bases that eclipse what Nintendo has in terms of users willing to buy that type of content.

Now that the PS Vita is dead (dying?), I wish all developers move to the Switch. Also, Nintendo should quit making 3DS games and focus on the Switch, too. 3DS games with better graphics work perfectly for the Switch. So those are the types of games that need the Switch: PS Vita games and 3DS, as well as normal meant-for-consoles-games.

ShadowWolf7123307d ago

Seems most of the Vita dev teams are either still working on it or moving to the PS4 and PC.

Perjoss3307d ago

Which dev teams in particular that you know of?

Razzer3307d ago

Agree. Vita games would work perfectly on Switch in portable mode. Hopefully they would update the graphics to look better in console mode as well.

DJ3307d ago

I don't know about that. The hardware is dead, but I've heard software sales are through the roof via PS Store. I myself typically get a few games a year still.

_-EDMIX-_3307d ago

Smh.

I like how you expected them to have common sense.

From the sounds of it it looks like they're going to keep trying to sell people 2 devices.

gangsta_red3306d ago (Edited 3306d ago )

So Nintendo should quit making games for the best selling dedicated game handheld on the market?

...That makes perfect sense...

colonel1793306d ago (Edited 3306d ago )

So by your logic, Sony should still be selling PS2, right?

gangsta_red3306d ago

@colonel179
That's actually by your logic, not mine.

Different fanbase that game on handhelds compared to consoles. Even if that console is a portable.

There is still a huge portable market that Nintendo strictly owns with the 3DS, then add a million ++ 3DS owners who I am sure haven't bought a Switch, why would Nintendo just stop supporting that?

Protagonist3306d ago

Instead of devs moving from Vita to the switch, I would much much rather get a new handheld from Sony.
